Title: Home Made traction device...
Post by: kuaka on April 22, 2015, 11:09:27 AM
I seem to be getting some positive results from a device I made for about $7.

Components:

Hardwood board.  I used a mismatched bookend I picked up at Goodwill for $1
1/4 inch carriage bolts, 7 inches long, 2
1/4 inch flat washers, 2
1/4 inch nuts, 2
1/4 inch wingnuts, 4
String tie from a folding lawn chair bag
Piece of rubber tubing cut from an exercise device

The trick is in the proportions and cutting, which I hacked at with tools I had on hand.  The cradle is not extremely comfortable as yet, but I'm not finished with sanding/shaping it.  My Peyronies Disease is the classic "curve up", so I'm most interested in stretching the top part.  When in use, I can increase the tension until I feel the pull on the plaque area and just until it hurts a bit.  After it doesn't hurt anymore, I add a bit more tension.  I have been unable to tolerate using it for the length of time I need, but as I get it more comfortable, I am hopeful.

I will take photos of the device, perhaps even in use, later tonight and add them here.

I figure that if I don't results, it still beats spending $200 or so to not get results.  Also, if I can get "some" positive results, it may justify spending the $'s to get something more comfortable/lighter.  I figure anybody with a little building skills can make one though, so if just don't have the $'s for a "store bought" one or can't find one you think is worth the asking price, this is a place you can start.

QuoteI will take photos of the device
It will definitely help.
You can post it right here if not when in use.
Picture when in use, you may post here:

Ok.  Here are some pics of the device...with a screwdriver handle for illustrative purposes...  :)

The outer wing nuts are primarily as a gauge and to keep the thing together when not in use.

The inner wing nuts are used to adjust tension.  *** CAUTION *** This device does NOT give.  Use only in a stationary reclined position, and be ready to release the strap if necessary.

I originally was using velcro straps (soft side IN, of course), and I may do something similar before it is done.

Still to do...

Hey, just kidding, but I thought the quote was called the KISS plan:  Keep It Simple Stupid!!!

Old Man, you are correct.  I just like to reverse it for the halibut.  Of course if you remove the comma, "stupid simple" could be taken as "extremely uncomplicated", which is perfectly ok...  Ain't manglish fun?

I have advanced arthritis and cannot make my own devices like some of you fellows, so a question:   Because of finances, if a guy had to choose between either a traction device or VED, which might be the better choice (at least to start out with)?    Opinions and reasons would be appreciated.   I sincerely appreciate informed advice.   --artguy1

I'm thinking the VED more effective at this point. The protocol is more doable

artguy1:

I would suggest that you look into getting a battery powered VED. There are several on the market made by the Augusta Medical Systems and several others. You could do a Google search by asking where they are available.

In the meantime, look at this site:  www.augustams.com   They have several choices of the battery powered models. Also, search for other companies battery models as well.

The battery powered models work well for folks that have impairment of their hands, i.e. Dupuytren's Contractures, arthritis and persons with missing fingers, etc.

Just as an update.  I've only been using this traction device for a few weeks, and not nearly the two hours daily minimum to expect significant results, but I have had some immediate results.

When I first noticed my Peyronies Disease, (last November) the bend was accompanied by bumps and dips in the vicinity as well as significant pain.  At this point, about 4 weeks into my limited use of my home made traction device, the bumps and pain are gone.  Now that I have added the home made VED therapy to the mix, and DEPO-Testosterone monthly injection, I have had the opportunity to evaluate a significant erection.  No more bumps and dips, and no more pain.  My degree of bend is now about 40 degrees, whereas it was closer to 45.  I am actually at a point now where I will consider intercourse viable again...now to just get in the same State as my wife so I can test that out.

That's an interesting design. The only thing I would fear would be getting some sort of splinter in my penis. I would recommend putting some kind of material (maybe latex or vinyl or something) around that center piece to prevent this from happening.

It is some sort of hard wood...  :)

Sanded smooth, there is little risk of splinters.  So far, it seems to be working ok.  I've gone back to the velcro strip to secure though...it works a bit better.

Very interesting design, except that I don't see how it will be able to provide a strong enough grip to prevent slippage. What happens when the penis is no longer erect?

Maybe if you keep this design, but use some form band that can fit snug around the penis which will expand when it is erect but remain snug enough to not slip.

"No longer erect"...it is used on a flaccid penis.  All mechanical stretchings and straightening efforts should be done on a flaccid penis in order to not further injury.  The most difficult part is securing the penis just below the glans.  I've found a velcro strap...hook side OUT, of course...works best.

While I credit this device with the immediate improvement of dimples, bumps and pain reduction, I did NOT see an overall correction of the bend happening, and due to the difficulty in use have ceased using it for now.  I find the VED device is actually better at introducing tension to the plaque without discomfort, which is my objective at present.  If I can get the plaque to stretch a bit, I can reduce the bend.  If I can reduce the bend enough, intercourse will be pleasurable again.  That is the goal.
