Post-injection modeling & straightening: why only a "spontaneous" erection?

All the guidance/brochures say to perform the straightening and modeling when the penis is erect spontaneously, like when you wake up.  In fact, the handout I have specifically states that "If you do not have a spontaneous erection, do not attempt the penis straightening activity."

So what's the difference between a spontaneous erection, and one that pops up from being aroused?

I believe they are considered the same, what would not be a spontaneous erection is if you had to masturbate until you got hard.

yeah I think its the back and forth action that would cause issues, not the erection or cause.  Hence no sex or masturbation. I just got over that LOOOONG period of abstinence.  Is there a way to orgasm without fear of damaging yourself? Vibrator perhaps? thoughts?

I've been thinking of that as well given that I start xiaflex soon 😊

Well it's not for everyone but prostate massage would relieve frustrations  :)
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

Before the injection, I had to bring in a pic of my (curved downward) erect penis so the dr could measure the curve for ins purposes. It was far easier to get erect at home - let's face it. He injected my penis twice - three days apart. Yes, it hurt. But now my penis is pretty straight, I regained the loss of length and we can have sex again. with the help of Levitra. I don't like Viagra.
Still enjoying life

Hey Alanjr! Nice to know you had a substantial curvature reduction with your xiaflex treatment! You mention you take Levi ra. I tried it once... Not the biggest fan. I am on daily cialis 5mg.

Have you ever tried it?

I used a vibrator at day six during my first treatment because I could no longer think straight and focus on work, so it didn't take much. It worked out with only mild internal tugging during the contractions.

But on my second treatment, I was a bit cocky and did it at day four. Those contractions created the same kind of sharp pain I felt in office when the doc yanked to cause my penis to pop during the 2nd injection. I won't lie, that was scary. I double checked my wrap, delayed changing it by about 8 hours to give my innards time to heal, and felt that sharp pain for several hours after my indiscretion. Whether or not that self-induced pop is ultimately useful, I don't know, but it took all the fun out of it. YMMV.

I am beginning Xiaflex and wondered about the same issues to model a spontaneous erection.

I discovered something from being in the northwest shade for most of the year.  If I take 2000 units of Vitamin D in the morning and again at night I have almost nightly spontaneous erections.  I also saw a testimony from another person that has the same results.
73 yr old, sex injury in May 2023, acute phase was very fluid for about a year then resulted in 70-90 degree curvature upward. Began Xiaflex treatments December 15, 2024 with Restorex treatments twice daily. Phoenix area U.S.

Be careful brother. Dr. Trost is very specific on wrapping post-Xiaflex to avoid the nasty swelling, hematomas etc that can happen after Xiaflex injections. I diligently wrapped for about 5 days post-injection and then stopped wrapping. A "pleasant" dream caused an erection and my unit blew out like a squashed toad. It was nasty and took several days of ice and Indomethacin for things to remotely return to a tolerable state. This interrupted my daily ReStoreX use. Thankfully I had cranked the ReStoreX to the max only hours after the second set of injections and in the days after; the overall outcome was going from +70 degree upward curve to +-15 degrees with only one set of injections. Moral of the story, Xiaflex is powerful stuff and getting an erection without wrapping can cause (at least in my case) nasty complications.

Piggybacking on what @richestorags said, I was over confident during my recent third treatment. Three full days after the second of two injections, during my daily re-wrapping, I wanted to see what it looked like erect to assess progress. Well, when I got to 9/10 hard, I felt the sharpest ripping pain that bent my knees while my dick doubled in size in four seconds. Absolutely terrifying. Luckily I had the wrapping material nearby, otherwise I might have ripped fore skin from the sudden swelling. It took all the concentration I had to hastily wrap with shaking hands, tremendous pain, and a bit of panic. I did this in the evening but was unable to sleep for the next 20 hrs due to the pain and it set my healing back at least ten days.

To be clear, the error was not the erection. It was the lack of wrapping. Wrapping and controlling the swelling and internal bleeding is key to the whole operation. Even a somewhat loose wrap will contain the swelling, which dramatically reduces pain, improves sleeping, and speeds up healing.
