I read this article today, and the first one some time ago and i think this is awesome news! to reach this point of a successful transplant that doctor must have a godlike knowledge of how the penis works on the inside, and hopefully that will translate itself on new better treatments for E.D. in the near future or at least improvements on current one's.

it must be hard to accept someone else penis if it comes to that, i think ultimately men are going to think "is it preferable to have my penis that doesn't work, or one that was someone else's but works properly? either way... awesomeness right there!

I find it amazing that no one else seems to give much importance to these news about the transplant... Or is it just my impression?

I think this is incredible news, but the article contained almost no information about the results of the procedure.  How well does the penis function?  What does it feel like to the recipient?  How long will the body accept the new penis?  Forever?  Temporarily?  That the man's girlfriend got pregnant doesn't really mean too much.  You can get someone pregnant with a flaccid penis if you can ejaculate.  You can ejaculate without any pleasure.  I'd like to see some real details.

I have to say, I don't think I could deal with the idea of having someone else's penis.  If things got to the point where penis transplants were as good as my original penis I think I would be ok with a lab grown penis with my own cells or something like that, but I don't think I would be ok with someone else's penis.  It's just too weird for me.

The original article answers all those questions. Everything is perfect, except for the sensitivity which is at 80%....

I'm not sure what you mean by the "original article", but I did find this article with more detail:

News - Stellenbosch University doctors perform first...

I didn't see any mention of 80% sensitivity though.  But they seemed to suggest that the organ was fully functional.  Of course I am still a bit skeptical without more proof, but this is encouraging.  Hopefully these kinds of operations will become more standard.

The next question is, how much is being done as far as growing penises in the lab?  Dr. Atala at wake forest who is working on that and other related things: Scientists ready to test lab-grown penises on men | Science | The Guardian

To me this kind of thing is the most promising future treatment for peyronie's.  Here is a quote from the article:

Professor James Yoo, a collaborator of Atala's at Wake Forest Institute, is working on bioengineering and replacing parts of the penis to help treat erectile dysfunction. His focus is on the spongy erectile tissue that fills with blood during an erection, causing the penis to lengthen and stiffen. Disorders such as high blood pressure and diabetes can damage this tissue, and the resulting scar tissue is less elastic, meaning the penis cannot fill fully with blood.

"If we can engineer and replace this tissue, these men can have erections again," said Yoo, acknowledging the many difficulties.

There is more information on that transplant around the web. I am going to search for the links with more time. And scheptical? That news about the transplant is all over the web on the most reputable websites. Even the doctor has several papers published on pub med. What more proof do you need? I know that the problem is the penis being from another man. Because, other than that what is wrong with getting a full functional, properly sized penis again? It's a psychological thing that I hope it gets solved!

I wouldn't care. It's a "used" penis, so what. One should be pragmatic about it. One would buy a used car if it was in decent shape.

Hey Guys:

Don't knock it, if you needed a penis transplant and found a really good one, even used that would be a plus. Also, you might be able to find one that has never been used that much and was a size or two larger than the old one!!!

Edit:  Corrected my post to read: transplant in lieu of implant. Knew better, just typed the wrong word!

It's not a penis implant, but a transplant :-P

disaster area

I think it would be very important to ensure all  negotiations with the donor  were completed before  starting....

It wont be long before men know nearly as much as a  woman.

People who compare penises to cars..and I do not go on since I could be banned if I express what I think..

By the way NO one doctor in the world would remove a penis to a man even if just 30% working..do not waste mental energies on it as it won't happen. It would rather be more probable a lab grown grafting..

31 yrs old
Severe congenital curvature. 3 straightening surgeries
Big lump/stitch w/ left deviation after 2012 surgery
Severe ED after last one in 2014. Still crooked
