I take 3 pills a day and no matter what time of day the effect is still the same.  I think I have no choice but to take less, perhaps even none if it comes to it

Check first if you have the slow release (extended release) type. I had huge problems with the first supply of one month because they were not slow release.
Never take Pentox after 6 PM.
Always with meal.
Start with one 400 mg in the morning until your body get used to, then increase to two, then to three.
I have done it, got to 3*400 mg daily within 4 or 6 weeks, I forget the exact time.

They only sell the slow release in Canada.  I usually take at 6am, 12pm, and 3pm.  I've even experimented by taking one at 6am and 2 at 12pm.

It's been a few months on the drug so my body is pretty adjusted in that I no longer get dizziness, stomach upset, or gastric problems.  I'll stop for now until the nocturnal erections stop and then start back up with one pill at 6am and then ramp up to another pill at 12pm if I don't notice any nocturnal erections after a couple weeks.

I am still in second Pentox+L-arginine week, taking it after meals arond 9am, 2pm and 10:30pm. I am 34. I tend to have dinner very late (10pm, in Spain it is ok) and go to sleep 1 hour and a half latter.

I do tend to wake up earlier in the morning now, but I think it is mainly do to peeing because i take the night pill with water almost before going to sleep (and also probably due to the water of the dinner).

Also specially in the first week i woke up due to erections and mild pain. Had to stand up, breath and relax to make it go down. Lasts nights i did not fully wake up, but still i think my sleep is not as good as before, i think i am half waking up and just try to resume sleep without leaving the bed.

From what you are saying and my symptoms I guess i'll have to eat sooner (which I should do anyway!!).
