I've seen multiple posts on pentox and i don't really see any direct answers.

Question- Is pentox considered directly or indirectly a blood thinner and how? Yes or no and why.

Make a search on the forum regarding your question, you will get the answer.

James i just searched "Pentox blood thin" and wasn't able to find any posts relevant to this, at least after looking at the first group of results.

If you know the answer couldn't you just respond? Seems a little redundant.

Pentox is considered a blood thinner, but it works different.
It makes the blood cells flexible so they can penetrate to the thinnest veins and to provide the most needed oxygen to everywhere.
I had a lot of small blue and red veins on my face and feet, they completely gone while using Pentox and remain like that even stopped 17 months ago.

Surely as a 'registered nurse' you should be able to figure this one out by yourself?

NOTE TO ALL:

I just ran the name Pentox across the Mayo Clinic medication files and it says that Pentoxofyline (Trental) is a form of blood thinner. It is prescribed for removing  spider veins and other smaller veins that occur when one has symptoms of poor circulation in the legs. It also relieves leg cramps caused by the poor circulation.

It further states that the medicine is available only by RX when the physician/doctor has determined that it WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH ANY OTHER MEDICINE TAKEN BY THE PATIENT, AND THAT THE PRESCRIBING DOCTOR MUST SATISFY HIMSELF AND THE PATIENT THAT THERE ARE SIDE EFFECTS TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN TAKING THE PENTOX.

The above if just FYI to members taking for considering taking the Pentox med.

Welshwales, your lack of knowledge on the medical field is amusing. I'm a nurse, not a pharmacist. They're different.

Yes, I do have a great comprehension of many different fields of endeavor. I am a retired military man of 37 1/2 years of service in three branches of the U. S. Military and achieved a very high ranking enlisted grade!

In addition, I have over 30 years of commercial experience in shipbuilding, aircraft manufacture, military construction and millworks businesses. This experience covered many years of hard work and at the same time taught me how to conduct myself courteously to others and not offend them in doing so.

It appears from your arrogant position you take on any subject that is brought up that you lack the mental capacity to realize that you are doing great harm to many members on the forum.

So, please take the advice of an old fart of a man who is approaching 86 years old. And, has been through many more years of learning than it appears that you will ever accomplish. I suppose that I am several times your age older than you are BTW!!

I do not intend to address an answer to any of your posts or PMs on any subject on this forum in the future!!

Best to you and hope that you wake up and smell the coffee of life before you dig yourself a hole and bury yourself.

It just gets funnier and funnier!  Technique, if understanding the pharmaceutical profile of a common old drug like Pentox is outside your training as an RN (according to you), how exactly is it that you're specially equipped to solve the riddle of Peyronie's itself?

Oh right, I forgot ... common sense.

You're making quite an impression, my friend.

51 yrs. old, multiple auto-immune conditions. First episode of Peyronies Disease in 2002. Recurred a couple times since. Over the years I have tried Topical Verapamil, Iontophoresis, all the supps and Cialis + Pentoxifylline. Still functional, always worried.

Pentox inhibits platelet aggregation, so would be considered an anti-platelet blood thinner even though that is not its main function.

It has a few other properties though:

"Like other methylated xanthine derivatives, pentoxifylline is a competitive nonselective phosphodiesterase inhibitor[19] which raises intracellular cAMP, activates PKA, inhibits TNF[20][21] and leukotriene [22] synthesis, and reduces inflammation and innate immunity.[22] In addition, pentoxifylline improves red blood cell deformability (known as a haemorrheologic effect), reduces blood viscosity and decreases the potential for platelet aggregation and thrombus formation.[23] Pentoxifylline is also an antagonist at adenosine 2 receptors.[24]"

If lots of people react to you the same way, you are the issue, not them.

There is good information here and a lot of help to be had, it would benefit you more to alter the way you interact here instead of arguing about it.

I'm not trying to argue, i'm just STATING that a lot of things don't make sense about this whatsoever. Or some of the information on this site or on other sites don't make sense as well, at least logically.

Lots of unknowns about the condition I'm afraid.

"A lot of things don't make sense about this."  Once again, that is precisely what we have been telling you from your first post - and that is precisely why the condition is so vexing to the researchers trying to find a cure. Scars that don't heal. Scars that over-heal. Scars that form for no apparent reason. Yes, it defies easy answers. THAT is Peyronie's.

If you agree that you've been "SOMEWHAT" arrogant, then you need to check yourself. You don't come onto a forum worried about a condition you seem to have and then start arguing every single answer you get trying to shape it into the answer you want, touting your superior medical education, insinuating men here lack common sense or stating flat-out that they are simply pessimistic.  When you don't get the answer you want, you stomp your feet and start impugning the motives or knowledge of the person(s) who gave the answer. Hence the reception you've received. If you don't see the poor manners in that, then you have some maturing to do.

(And by the way, no one suggested an RN should know every drug in existence. What was suggested was that an RN could easily find the information they needed. In fact, the people who provided said information were not even RNs, so go figure.)

I'll say again - your reception here has been commensurate with your attitude. If you agree that you've been "SOMEWHAT" arrogant, then I think a sincere apology might go a long way toward hitting the reset button if you intend to continue to use this forum. One man's opinion.
