Hi All,

I'm looking in to seeing a specialist up in San Francisco, and I'm considering having a doppler ultrasound done. As I understand it, the doctor will need to inject my penis to induce an erection for the test. I'm concerned that the injection could cause scarring and damage to my penis. Is this a well founded or irrational fear?

Also, will the results of the test conclusively show or tell anything in terms of whether I'm able to have sex or not?

To find out if you have venous leakage or not (as the cause of your ED) the doctor have to inject you to get an erection.
Your fear the injection causing scarring is in place (and exaggerated), but this is the only way to make this test as I know.

thanks for the reply james1947. I'm sorry but I don't understand what this means:

"Your fear the injection causing scarring is in place (and exaggerated), but this is the only way to make this test as I know."

So you are saying there is a chance the injection could cause more problems?

Thanks,

Not every peyronies specialist uses the injection as part of the ultrasound evaluation. Dr. Lue and Dr. Gelbard did not use an injection when they did their ultrasounds on me.

My understanding is that the injection is most often used to evaluate venous leakage. For evaluating scar tissue, the injection is not required (although some docs do prefer to use it).

Your concern is understandable and you should express it to the doctor.

To clarify the subject of ultrasound:
* To find plaques don't need an injection because it is done in flaccid.
* To detect venous leakage need an injection to induce erection
* Any kind of injection to the penis have the risk to make plaques, including Xiaflex, PRP, Bimix, Trimix, Quadmix etc'

My urologist injected me with an erection-inducing agent to check for plaques.

And james, with all due respect I do not think a urologist would inject you with an erection agent if he thought it would cause you more peyronies-related problems. I'm almost 100% sure they would inject it into the vein and not the corpora cavernosa

If the doctor will inject into the vein, the saline will be washed out within minutes, maybe seconds.
Every injection into the penis have the risk of developing plaques. Smaller the needle, lower the chance for plaques.
Just don't have any other way to ensure an erection to see if have venous leakages or not.
The information above I got from two urologists that performed on me this test.
Also we have/had members that they got they Peyronies from injecting Bimix, Trimix, Quadmix.
powderpowder, I am really not specialist in any health subject, so feel free to contradict any of my statements. :)

Not trying to start a crazy argument but it has to be said.
unless it was from a trauma, i dont think anybody truly knows how their peyronies developed, its all speculation.  Can you get it from countless erection needles at an older age throughout the years, without it being done by a professional urologist each time? Probably.  Can you get it from 1-3 times by a professional peyronies specialist who is knowledgeable and qualified? I find it highly unlikely.  I have not seen anybody on this forum who is for sure their peyronies started from needles but i could be wrong.

I just find it bad that some posters jump the gun so hard to other posters on peyronies. This poster below will probably be running with more anxiety than needed now because of receiving some information that none of us know is true or not.

Cal30, i would not worry about the injection.  I think we can all agree, james and everybody else that we do not need more anxiety than we already have, and to think that the injections given to us by top specialists can cause peyronies.
like you said, i am not qualified either. Just my personal opinion.

I would love for a poster who goes to Lue or Levine to ask them about this though

Your opinion and mine are really almost the same except:
QuoteI have not seen anybody on this forum who is for sure their peyronies started from needles
Proposing you to read all the posts on the forum (I have done it) maybe it will change your mind.
