Hi,
I'm a 40 year old man serving in the Navy with 21 years on active duty. I am concerned because less than a week ago I noticed that my member seemed to be bent to the left more than usual. I have had a slight bend to the left of probably about 10 degrees or so for many many years. Don't remember when I first noticed it because I never really was concerned about it. It was never a problem at all and is probably fairly normal statistically.

However, several days ago I noticed that my erection seemed to have a significantly sharper bend to it than it did the last time I paid any attention to it, which happened to be only a couple weeks earlier. Needless to say I got a bit concerned. I googled "bent penis" to try to figure out what might be going on and what I can do about it. I learned about Peyronie's Disease for the first time and became even more concerned. After some brief internet research I told my wife about it. She helped me trace my erection on a piece of paper so that I could measure the angle. It was about 25 degrees. Of course I had never measured the angle before, but it was not really that noticeable before and I don't think it was more than 10 degrees. So it appears that the bend has increased about 15 degrees in a couple weeks time. I read shrinkage is a common symptom of Peyronies and I hadn't measured my erection in years so I decided grab a ruler.  I was surprised to find that my bone pressed erection length had decreased from 19.5 cm to 17.5 cm. Everything still works pretty good. I have had some very very mild pain recently but nothing that would normally concern me at all, and it is gone right now. How concerned should I be?

I'm in the military and really do not want to go to the branch clinic to see my doctor about this. Frankly, I don't trust the confidentiality of medical information at this clinic. On top of that, my primary care physician is a young female flight surgeon who does not have a reputation for either experience or competence.

This appears to be an extraordinary forum with a wealth of knowledge. I have only had time to barely scratch the surface. I am eager to here what advice or recommendations anyone has.

Thanks,
MilitaryMember

Hello,

First of all, welcome, but sorry you have to be here. I agree that the base doctor is probably not the best person to go to as they will likely not have experience with this condition. It would be better to go to a male sexual health specialist urologist in your area.

Although there is no cure for Peyronie's, there are numerous treatments with varying degrees of efficacy such as oral pentoxiphylline (trental), low-dose Cialis, and most recently, PRP injections (these are very new and not well studied for Peyronie's, but some members here have experienced good results). I suggest you take some time to read through the forums and ask any questions you may have. I wouldn't worry too much about the treatments until you get a confirmed diagnosis.

It may take some time to get an appointment with a specialist. In the meantime, try to get yourself in the best shape possible; that means: exercise, rest and proper diet.

Good luck,

Skjaldborg

Hi, I'm new here too. Sorry to hear about your possible case of Peyronie's.

You can get a better idea if you really have Peyronie's by checking if you can feel a plaque, or harder than normal patch of tissue on the left side of your penis where it bends. But ultrasound imaging is a better way to tell what's going on there.

Mine started a few months ago with an indentation on the left side. My urologist put me on Topical Verapamil 2 (which is purportedly ineffective according to this forum). However after nearly 2 months of using verapamil, the indentation has reduced a bit. During this same period I have also exercised and dieted, so that may be helping too.

Anyway, if you are like me, the more you read the more depressed you get. So I decided to mostly stop researching the disease and just carry on with life while under the care of my urologist.

Isn't that the unfortunate truth.

All the best to you MilitaryMember! We are all in this battle together and you'll never find a more determined group to find a way out of the box. If your deformity isn't too bad you will most likely be able to live with it and have a very normal sex life. Just be extremely careful not to cause more damage or irritate the inflammation. As for treatments, I have no answers. I've tried most everything you'll find on this forum with no positive results. It's all been a waste of time and money. Unless somebody finds a miraculous way to changed extremely hard scar tissue back into elastic tissues I think we are doomed to find a way to live with it or face surgery.

I also encourage you to find a urologist that has experience in Peyronies Disease, but even they don't really have any answers. There is no cure at this point in time. There are many successful surgery stories if you look for them. Beware, there is also a group that is petrified of the idea of having such invasive procedures performed on their member and they will try to convince you not to do it. It is a last resort, but it appears that's what I for one am faced with.

Sorry to come off negative, I just believe the truth is the best way to attack any situation and I'm speaking from my heart based on my personal experience thus far.

God bless and thank you for your service!

I agree with Knight that Peyronies don't have yet a cure, but I totally disagree that don't have what to do.
Many forum members found they way out of this mess or got improvements that made they life change back to what was before Peyronies.
Some by oral treatment and VED, some by traction, some by changing they diet and some by surgery or/and implant.
The most important thing is to see a Peyronies specialist, be diagnosed and start treatment as soon as you can.
Longer the time you wait, less are the chances for remarkable improvements.
You may try to find a specialist here:

ot tell us where you are living and we can advice one for you.
