Ruling out neurological cause of ED?

How would one rule out a neurological cause of ED, possibly emanating from the lower spine and or perineal region and what diagnostic tests would one have to do and can these tests rule out a neurological cause of ED 100%?  Is it possible that partial compression of the nerves in the lower back can weaken erectile function even though bladder and bowel function are normal?

My private opinion:
You can't rule out the neurological cause of ED same as you can't be sure it is neurological even if all the other tests are OK.
The doctors are very much in darkness with everything neurological, not just ED related.
Everything that they can't find a reason become neurological. That I know from three MD professors, family and friends.

Age 71, Peyronies from Jan 2009 following penis fracture during sex. Severe ED.
Lost 2" length and a lot of girth. Late start, still VED, Cialis & Pentox helped. Prostate surgery 2014.
Got amazing support on the forum

Snowydreams- Nerve damage is real. The erectile nerve came be damaged as mine was in surgery. The question is what will you do? If you have ED, then it will have to be attacked. If oral meds don't work, there is probably damage. Im not a doctor, just IMHO, get busy with VED and cock rings and continue to live. In essence be a dreamer, snowy or otherwise. Regards Inkhorn

I had back surgery in 2008 for my L4 L5, disk replacement and fusion, the new Medtronic D lift. During my work up for back surgery I was talking to the doctor about my ED and peyronies. I asked if nerve damage in my back could cause ED. He told that the nerves for the penis were up higher in my back. I asked it they could be checked. He told me they could, then I asked if they found nerve damage what could be done. He said nothing can be done about nerve damage in the back for ED. I opted not to go through the testing because if they found anything there was nothing that could be done.

My ED was caused by severe venous leakage. When venous leakage gets so bad you can not have sex the only options are a VED with constriction rings or a penile implant. Mine was so bad the constrictions rings would not hold. That is when I opted for the penile implant. Read my history for the full story.

If hypothetically there is a neurological cause for ED emanating from the lower back, would the ED be helped by injection if one can't get full erections with PDE5 inhibitors and what is the best way to continually use the injection without causing scarring or damage to the penile tissue(if there is no plaque)?  What is the recommended dosage for the injection?

Even if one does a MRI and nerve tests?  Aren't the same nerves which affect bladder and bowel function also affect erectile function and if the latter are functioning normally does it rule out a neurological basis for ED?

What testing did they propose?

Was your bladder and bowel function affected too?

If PDE5 inhibitors do not work then most likely injections will not either. I tried all of then and then the injections. The injections did not work well for me either and cause corporal fibrosis which made things even worse and penile implant more complicated.

There is a long history of penile injections causing peyronies. Read the package insert for EDEX.

The color doppler is the gold standard for testing for venous leakage. Today lots of doctors do not even do that they diagnose from symptoms.

No my nerve function and ED did not affect my bladder or bowel functions.

I had the test for my legs. It is like they stick little needles in you and attach an electric shock to see how you react. It was very uncomfortable, border line painful.
