Hi,

I am 49 years old.  I had painful erections about 3 years ago.  The pain subsided about 6 months later.  I went to a urologist at the time and had so many tests done.  The guy did not even mention Peyronie's disease.

3 weeks ago I noticed that my penis is curved.  I had a doctors appointment yesterday and he confirmed that I have Peyronie's disease.  I am not sure if this is related to the pain that I experienced 3 years ago.  The curve is about 30 degrees.  He took an X-ray and told me that I have one plaque (10mm x 12mm) located in the distal shaft.  He said there are few sprinkles of calcification (beginning).  He told me I would be a good candidate for Xiaflex in a few months.

He prescribed:

  Pentox - 400 ml twice a day
  L-arginine - 1,000 ml twice a day .
  Vitamin E - 400 ml a day

I am also taking:

  Acetyl l-carnitine - 800 ml twice a day
  Coenzyme Q10 - 200 ml twice a day

I used to take these anyway:

Multiple Vitamin - Once a day
Fish Oil - Once a day

He asked me to stretch it 3 times a day.

I was so shocked from the news that I forgot to ask some questions.  I have another appointment in 2 months but I am hoping I can get some answers from this forum before that:

1. Do you think the current bent is related to the pain 3 years ago?  Is it possible?
2. Can someone advise about my stage? (the curve appeared 3 weeks ago and calcification is just starting)
3. He took an X-ray.  Is ultrasound better?
4. Should I be doing anything else?
5. I know the best thing is not to have the disease but in comparison, are these condition bad?

3. I might be wrong but I do not think an xray will show the extent of scarring, typically you need ultrasound.  Also it is better to avoid CT, xray or any radiation in the pelvic area.  MRI and ultrasound are safe though.
4.  I did not know pentox was available in such a low dose, plus you can not split the pills or they will absorb too quickly. It normally comes in 400mg tabs and is prescribed 1200-2400mg/day.  was this guy a urologist ?

It's hard to say, but what would this mean for you if it was/wasn't related?

The onset of peyronies is called the acute stage and lasts 12-18 months and then it stabilizes. And it usually takes at least this long for calcification to occur. So I wonder if you have some older plaques that you weren't aware of and now the curve is just forming.

I just know that some of the reputed specialists do a full color Doppler ultrasound. This also measures blood flow in addition to detection of peyronies plaques.

I think depends on everyone's perspective. If it stabilizes, no pain, able to have intercourse, then I would say not too bad. If you have continued pain, and sex becomes a challenge, then you might have a different perspective.

You were correct.  It was 400mg.  The 200mg was my mistake.  I changed my post.

Yes he is a Uro.  He is Peyronie's specialist.
