Hi,

I have started taking pentox very recently and have - so far - experienced two main side effects. The first is sleeping problems: inability to sleep despite being tired, and waking up tired even after 7-8 hours of sleep. The second is more difficult to characterize, and maybe a consequence of the first, but involves reduced levels of focus that manifest as subnormal reading comprehension and ability to write, for example.
I usually wake up around 10 - 11 am and have two meals throughout the day. This makes it difficult for me to take three 400 mg tablets separately, with food. I started with one around noon and one around 7-8 pm, and have also tried taking the 2 tablets together (800 mg in total) with my first meal (around 1 pm) in a failed attempt to reduce the sleeping problems.

I want to increase my daily intake to 1.2 g and, due to the reasons I have just outlined, I am thinking of taking two 400mg tablets with my first meal (around 12 - 1) and the third one with my second (between 7-8). I will try the regular regime of three separate tablets first, but I don't think it will work for me as I would have to take the third pill comparatively late and that can only increase the sleep problems.
Do you have any advice on the spacing of the doses? Has anyone tried taking the first two pills together?

I also want to start taking L-Arginine, Ubiquinol, Acetyl L-Carnitine and Vitamin D3 and have picked a brand of each from iherb.com I need your opinion/advice whether they are the best available option in terms of price, and form (capsule, tablet, softgel, veggie caps ...). Here is the list:

   1. L-Arginine: http://www.iherb.com/Solgar-L-Arginine-1000-mg-90-Tablets/22420
Available options seem to include capsules, tablets, "veggie caps", "free form" tablets and powder. If you happen to know could you tell me the relative advantages/disadvantages of each?

   2. Ubiquinol: http://www.iherb.com/Healthy-Origins-Ubiquinol-New-Soy-Free-Non-GMO-Formula-100-mg-150-Softgels/12109

   3. Acetyl L-Carnitine: http://www.iherb.com/Solgar-Acetyl-L-Carnitine-1000-mg-30-Tablets/23563
    http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Acetyl-L-Carnitine-500-mg-200-Vcaps/15271

   4. Vitamin D3: http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Vitamin-D3-5000-IU-100-Softgels/22926

Finally, should I stop consuming dairy products? What should I eliminate from my diet?

Many thanks,

ashtown

I am writing a book and definitely feel my ability both with research and writing has been negatively impacted since using Pentox. I'm more easily distracted and I'll often rewrite a paragraph twenty times before I'm satisfied. This project should have been finished months ago but my progress has been glacial. Peyronies alone is a distraction but I think Pentox has some definite downsides.

Noway

If you have any side effects taking pentox reduce your intake to either 1 or 2 pills per day. At first i was taking three and went down to two and sometimes only take one and its still effective.

ashtown

My urologist put me on 6 tablets a day, saying it would be more effective. I rarely suffer from nausea, however my wife tells me I am more anxious than before. That's an easy comparison though, because I didn't have Peyronies previously. For a while I had trouble sleeping but that seems OK now. I'm just nowhere near as productive as I used to be with my work and that has affected my earnings significantly.

Any advice on the spacing of the doses or on which brands of the supplements to buy? Thanks.

ashtown

Regarding spacing your doses just try to keep your times as equal as possible. Remember that the medicine is working even while you sleep so you can take one dose just before bed, then another in the morning and a third in the middle of the afternoon. The further apart they are the less like you are to suffer side effects, so if you take 3 doses within say 6 hours you are likely to feel rough and not get the full benefits either.

I don't know enough about the different brands to favour one over another.

Thanks man. Any input on dairy products or foods to avoid?

ashtown

I'm staying away from dairy products simply because it's been said often enough that they don't help. I still drink a little coffee but add in almond milk. As for the rest try to go as natural as possible with lots of fresh vegetables.

For me the problems come with processed foods and anything with high levels of sugar and additives. I'd love to eat some cream cakes or spicy nachos in a cheese dip sauce with a coca cola but I'd experience pain and inflammation within the hour that would last for a whole day. Frankly I find my current diet pretty hard going but so far diet has shown more obvious differences than all the medicines put together, so I see it as something I just have to deal with.

I really appreciate it.
Do you think dairy products don't help because they are rich in calcium? I'm merely speculating here, but that's why I asked. Wouldn't higher amounts of calcium contribute in some way or another to calcification?

ashtown

No it's not calcium in dairy products that causes problems from what I can gather. Indeed a certain amount of calcium is useful for other nutrients to properly function. I think our body's just struggle to process dairy products and that creates inflammation.

I think you would find this site useful if you can spend some time reading http://coolinginflammation.blogspot.co.uk

Raw &  non homogenized goat or cow dairy is fine if it is available where you live.  I would avoid anything else to be safe.

I had very bad side effects from Pentox, now nothing.
I started with one 400mg daily in the morning with meal, increased to 2*400 after a while and now on 3*400.
I never take it after 6 PM, not to have problems with sleeping.
For me, Pentox is a real miracle medication, not just for Peyronies.

In what ways is it actually helping you James and how long did it take to start working? I'm on 6 tablets a day but struggling to see any benefits I can attribute to Pentox at this stage.

I am on Pentox 18 months now.
The only things I am taking now (out of supply of other stuff for six months already) is 3*400mg Pentox and 3-4mg Cialis.
My girth increased, my banana bent reduced slightly and the left bent caused by a plaque close to the base reduced slightly also.
The hard flaccid also almost gone. The erections are much better. Still far from how they were before Peyronies, but better. Many times without using Viagra, and when using just 25mg.
Other Pentox benefits:
Small broken blue/red veins on my face, legs and foots are almost not noticeable. One of my friends in my age (65, not gay) told me that my feet skin appear very young. I told him about Pentox (not mentioned Peyronies) and he bigone treatment right away, results in two moths.

Many thanks to you all.

I am currently working on a research project and was forced to discontinue pentox because it severely impacted my ability to focus. I hope I'll be able to restart taking it once the project is done and I have less work - demanding high levels of concentration - to do.

James: glad to hear pentox has helped improve your condition.
FunnyFarm: Are there any specific ingredients in non-raw, homogenized dairy products that might be bad for Peyronies Disease?

Finally, any advice on which brands/forms of supplements I should get? (see original post)

funnyfarm

Raw milk contains enzymes and encourages beneficial bacteria that contribute to easy digestion and ensure that all the vitamins and minerals are absorbed.

Pasteurization warps and distorts the enzymes and other proteins in milk so that the body thinks they are foreign, and has to mount an immune response.  This makes pasteurized milk very difficult to digest.

George999

Another issue with cow milk is the fact that there are two distinct types of dairy cow in service these days.  One type is the Holstein cow which has been highly hybridized to produce massive quantities of milk for human consumption.  The milk from these cows contains substances that tend to be inflammatory when consumed by humans.  The other type is all the rest of the old line breeds, Jersey, Guernsey, Brown Swiss, etc.  The milk from these cows is much more suitable for human consumption, but its use is discouraged due to the hysteria about milk fat levels since it contains more cream than Holstein milk.

james1947

The reason for Pasteurization is to prevent some illnesses as I understand.
I read many articles how not healthy is to drink raw milk.
What is the truth?

I just refilled a new prescription of pentox and noticed the pills are now white, before they were purple, why has this changed and is it normal?

Comebackid

ashtown

I've had that before and it was actually a different brand. The pink ones I usually get are marked Trental and the white ones had a different brand. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Hello all,

I have Peyronies for 3 years now. Can I take pentox to improve my condition
or is to late?

Thanks

LWillisjr

I like to think it is never too late to treat your Peyronies Disease. the effectiveness of Pentox at this point would depend on your symptoms.
1. Any pain?
2. Any curvature?
3. When it started?
4. Is your condition stable?
5. What have you tried to date?
Developed peyronies 2007 - 70 degree dorsal curve
Traction/MEDs/Injections/Surgery 2008 16 years Peyronies free now
My History

michael1001

No pain, only curvature, it started 3 years ago, it is stable now.
I tried then Pentox, Acetyl L-Carnitine and L-Arginine.(for 6 months)

LWillisjr

Then I would continue to try Pentox and add traction or VED therapy to see if this provides you any improvement.

How much curvature would you estimate?

I understand that you have tried Pentox and the supplements for 6 months.
How many mg Pentox and others per day?
Also Pentox helps some people in short time, usually it takes much longer than 6 months to see results from such treatment.
I was adding to lwillisjr advice low dose Cialis, the supplements you have taken and Ubiquinol if you can afford financially.

I took pentox after having peyronies for 7 years and it worked for me so I don't think time matters, try it no matter how long you've had it for!

Comebackid

Noway

Pentox works even if you have had peyronies for awhile and it does reduce the scar but it takes time and it takes around 4 months of daily use before you notice anything.  Changes take a long time.

ComeBacKid

noway is right, it takes time, after a few months you'll notice a difference....  just keep taking it don't stop, try to take two or three pills per day at 400mg, one pill has small side effects, two pills ups it, and three pills I felt antsy and irritable like I was testy with an anger yelling at people...

kid

james1947

I started taking one 400mg daily.
Ones the side effects (I had many) disappeared after some two weeks, increased to 2*400mg daily, with meals, not later than 06:00 PM.
After two months when side effects disappeared again, increased to 3*400mg daily. Side effects were gone after one month.

IhatePD

I went to my GP for my annual physical Friday and told him about the onset of my Peyronies Disease since last year.  I told him I am on Pentox along with Ubiquinol, daily Cialis and traction for 2-3 hours per day.

He told me that before he went to medical school, he was involved in medical research and that he had a grant to study Pentox and was very familiar with it. He said it reduces inflammation but a negative side effect is that it can inhibit your body's ability to fight infection. He told me to see him if I got any kind of infection while using it.

I just thought I should pass this along to all the Pentox users out there.

funnyfarm

I heard this too, it lowered my white blood cell count out of range, which the dr said meant my immune system was weaker.  I am no longer taking it and although I am low-normal, it is no longer an abnormal reading.
When you are in tune with the unknown, the known is peaceful.

james1947

Yes, Pentox oppressing the immune system and for this reason if I have even flue I am stopping taking it for one week.
Also lowering the white blood cells count, but not for everybody.
My white blood counts are twice the maximum normal, I was hoping Pentox will lower it but it not happened :(

James I believe an overactive immune system can be problematic too, increasing inflammation and scarring (basically overzealous healing response which is also common with autoimmune disorders).

Hello all,

Thanks a lot from answering to my question.
Actually sometimes I feel pain while erect, but not always.
Is this right after 3 years ?
Do any of you had pain after so much time?

Thanks
Michael.

Noway

michael1001

Yes that is correct some days mine is better than other days. It can flare up at anytime and cause more soreness and disconfort.
