I meet Dr Milam Monday for consultation. I am tentatively scheduled for Sept 12 implant. I have read alot about positive and negative outcomes from these great dr's. It seems some come out very pleased and close to original size and others get short changed quite a bit in size. My question is: are we totally at the mercy of the doctor for what we get? I mean I am getting 6.5" and good girth with VED. I do not want to be at 5" or so with less girth. Do I have any say in what size unit is used? I understand I cannot oversize myself. What I see is a pattern of many doctors being too conservative (for there own benefit and loss of patient benefit). I am married to an attractive woman who has good libido. She has always complimented my size. I do not want to ruin that becuase a doc is looking out for himself more than me. I would be happy with 6" and good girth. Can I tell him I want at least a 6" set up with girth at least 5"1/4"? I just am struggling with having little or no say. Is that the case? Can I sign off liability to a certain size after he evaluates me? thanks

Your concerns are understandable, but I think you are going to have the implant with maybe the best available doctor.
We are not:
Quotetotally at the mercy of the doctor for what we get
Have procedures that are also instructions from AMS, they have a tool to messure the length of the implant you can get, Dr. Milam is implanting the AMS700LGX that enhancing length and girth during time and he will do everything he can that you will not lose or lose less as possible length and girth.
Read JackP blog, it will make you very clear what to expect.

WISH YOU GOOD LUCK WITH THE IMPLANT OUTCOME
Be positive, you will have something that your wife will be very happy with.  ;D

And don't forget us after the implant. Update us after the surgery that we can improve our knowledge.  :)

I understand they stretch your penis in the flaccid state to get measurement. Can we do this to check. I mean how hard to you pull lol?

james1947

I don't know how much the doctor is stretching, the video bellow shows how they are measuring.

James:

The link video you listed below is for the AMS 600 malleable rod type. It is totally different from the AMS700LGX in makeup, so the procedure may or may not be same in making the measurements for the implant.

There should be a video showing how the LGX is inserted during surgery, but I did not have time to research it. Maybe JackP can step in and give us the proper procedure that Dr. Milam does his implant surgery.

I know that the video is for the AMS 600, but regarding the road length I thing have no difference between the malleable and the inflatable cylinders.
On the same web page can find also surgery videos for the inflatable implant. I watched this one because I think that this is the implant I will do.
I will be happy also if Jack can step in with his knowledge in the subject.

I'm not sure, but I believe that JackP is currently recovering from some back surgery. He & I keep in touch through our own private emails & he told me recently that he had to "go under the knife". Let's all hope & pray that his recovery is fine.

I also wanted to jump in a little about this topic. I have had the AMS LGX 700 implant for 2 years now. My decision to go ahead was based on faith more than anything. There are certainly no guarantees in life - & especially in surgery - but I can certainly vouch for the fact that, for me, it was the right thing to do. Since 2009, I have met a woman who has been probably been one of the best things to ever happen to me. We have a terrific sex life - and I'm 70 years old! I honestly don't feel as though there were any losses in my decision. My penis was non-functional prior to the implant due to Peyronies Disease. What difference did it make to my size whether it was more, less or the same. As far as I am concerned, the implant allowed me to "beat" Peyronies Disease & move on. Once I accepted that I would never be the same as I once was before this terrible disease affected me, I felt that the risks were worth the potential gain. I would encourage anyone to think of implant surgery as only a final choice (particularly if they are under 40), but I can also say without hesitation that I am thankful that I had the choice to make. Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones.

voulevous,
Great news and thanks for the post. I remember you having the surgery but hadn't seen you post in awhile. I'm sure it is always a boost to those on the forum to learn of a positive outcome.

Scott  -  Milam did my implant and I am not satisfied with the length.  However, I am completely satisfied with the performance of the LGX.  You need to have a conversation with Milam or his male nurse about length as well as blood flow, post op.  I was pleasantly surprised to get very good blood flow into the glans and it actually gets a lot larger than before I got Peyronies Disease.  I am considering a revision by another surgeon  to correct the length problem.  I lost 2 inches and have not recovered any of the loss after 16 months.  I also had a problem with pain management in recovery and had to go back to my family doctor for pain medicine after I came home.  You will be catheterized and you should be aware that may or may not cause problems when you urinate.  For me, it burned for a week.  Some men sail through the procedure and claim to be screwing a week after surgery and some have problems.  Just be aware and ask questions, after all, you are about to trust another man with a knife in one hand and your dick in the other hand. :-[

ScottNM

They told me at the consultation that I would be around 5 1/2" and I heard from Jack that they are usually conservative. I sure hope so. That is messed up lossing two inches.

Scott I don't want to hijack your topic but maybe you will get something out of this as well.

Nick, 2 " is a hell of a lot to lose just from surgery and especially with an implant that is sold for its design to preserve length.  I already lost around 1 3/4" from Peyronies Disease.  I am still at about 6 1/2".  I would maybe give up 1/2" but I am not willing to lose more.  I don't care if you have 12 inches, if you look at that for 50 years who wants to see half of it gone from Peyronies Disease and surgery?  It is not a case of is it big enough to do the job, it is a case of body image shock.

I am also interested in how you explain the glans being larger now than before surgery.  I assume that happens after you pump the implant up and you get naturally aroused and your natural erection response kicks in.  With significant ED I doubt I would get that because I definitely would not be taking Levitra just for a glans pump after surgery.  These issues make me wonder if I would not just be happier with what I have and continuing with either levitra/l-arginine combo or a VED and ending up with my full remaining size and a well filled glans. (I have no real curve left and only a significant dent on the underside of the base that causes no performance issues.)

Finally, I think you mentioned your Doctor's arrogance somewhere.  It is interesting how different patients see the same doctor.  Jack seems to think that same doctor is the standard by which all other doctors should be measured.  I think if I was willing to risk losing 2" and dealing with arrogance I could find a surgeon that could give me that much closer to the North/East.

Thanks

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes. I will send a post to the Improvement Board. I should have done it sooner.

There's a lot of misconception out there about implant surgery. I respect & understand why men are reluctant to take such a big step. And there are probably as many disappointed as there are satisfied with the process & results. I wish that I could assure anyone seriously considering it that they will be happy with the outcome. All I can do is to offer the "benefit" of what I learned from my own experience. But I guess that's the point of this entire forum.
