Why do doctors still push VI?

My original uro said when I first started that I should notice an improvement after 6 rounds of VI. His estimates were that 40% noticed improvement. When I didn't, and the curvature got worse, he suggested more VI! His answer was that he had someone going for three years and the plaque was gone, but he still have the curvature. I'm not sure how that is a selling point.

I took a break and went to another uro looking for someone to work with me on this. His suggestion, try three more rounds of VI - although his confidence level was low that I'd see any improvement. Yeah, stick me with needles again - just because.

At my prompting, he at least gave me literature on Fast Size - I told him it's not available while they are undergoing medical clearance. And also VED, which I had already purchased. His comment to me - read these and you'll know more than me. I didn't want to tell him that, thanks to this forum, I already do.

Seeing that Pentox and other supplements have worked with VED or Traction, why isn't that the standard first course of action? Or is it just a money issue? They can't make much on Peyronies Disease so they focus on big ticket items like ED and Prostate Surgery and promote VI because prescribing Pentox and VED doesn't contribute to their bottom line?

Sorry, bad Peyronies Disease pain day, seven months into this and only getting worse. I'm encouraged by the success stories here, but man is it a long haul.

Yes you are right is a long haul. As you have read by the forum, except surgery just consistency is working. Have many success stories on the forum but all connected to consistency. As somebody wrote on the forum is a marathon, not a sprint.
Regarding the usro's personally I am sure is just a money issue. They can't make money from Pentox, L-Arginine, VED, etc'. They can make money from VI and surgeries.
Not all of them as also myself I am in contact with an open minded uro that proved me until now that he is not running for the money.
My first uro told me that the only treatment that helps is surgery and he explain me that he will deglove my penis and make excision of the plaques. When I asked him what about grafting he told me he is not doing that because the tissues will regenerate by themselves. I read very different opinions on the forum.
You are seven months into Peyronie's, I suppose your plaques are not calcified yet so I am proposing you to get on Pentox, L-Arginine and VED or find out on the forum the treatment you think will help most.
Just don't lose time, the chance of reversing things are much bigger in the early stages.

Thank you James. I am on Pentox and L-Arginine and have started the single tube VED in March. I only hope the combination helps and I start showing some improvement. I'm optimistic I should see something based upon the results from people in the forum.

Good you started this treatment, I hope you will see results, just don't expect them too soon. Be carefull with the VED not to over pump'it and to make some damage to yourself. Old Man he is the VED guru on the forum and he say the moderate VED usage is helping more than aggressive approach. I am following his advise, also from experience I see he is 100% right. Read the one cylinder protocol, it may help you.
I am proposing you read the recent topic "Scared like hell, here's my Peyronies Disease-story, starts 8 months ago" in "Introduce Yourself"
Very encouraging regarding Pentox.
I would like also to bring to your attention a very positive report regarding VI at "Verapamil - Injections & Topical Applications including Iontophoresis" the topic is "Extremely Positive Results from Verapamil" so we have also very positive results from VI.

My original uro said when I first started that I should notice an improvement after 6 rounds of VI.

My doc told me that if I was going to respond to VIs that I should see improvment during the first round of 6 injections. He said that if I did not see any improvment after 6 of these, that I likely would not see any improvement from VIs and we would try something different after that.

I have questions about how soon VIs are supposed to help.  My experience was that I got worse during the first round of injections, but then improved in the 6 months following them.  During a second round (after waiting almost a year but still in the acute phase) I stayed about the same, but then have been improving steadily since they stopped.  Since I finished the last round in January, I've improved about 10 degrees.  I'm at about 30, but was about 90 at worst.  So it's possible they helped me,  not immediately, but during the months afterward.  Who knows? I did have active, painful, growing plaques during both times I received them.  I'm not sure they helped any of the older plaques at all, but it's very possible with the new inflamed plaques.  I'm pretty sure I'm out of the acute phase now, so I wouldn't take them again.  Also, I did feel like they helped quickly with pain.

Hi KAC. I also have the same question as to how soon they should help. Like the post from lwillisjr, I was told that if VI was going to work I would see some results in the first six injections. For me, like you, the curvature got worse, although the VI did help with the pain. I'm only three months since my last injection, but the curvature has not improved, in fact I was about 30 degrees then and after a visit to another uro he says I'm at 45 degrees now. So I think I can honestly say that VI did not work for me. I'm not saying it made it worse, but it didn't stop the progression. That is why after reading posts and emailing with OldMan and George, I decided to go the VED, Pentox and L-Arg route. I'm only a couple of weeks into that due to some bruising from the last injection. I will certainly post when I see some improvement.

Are you doing anything else other than the VI? It's encouraging that you've noticed results from VI after the treatment.

KAC

PablitoNJ,

Yes, I've used almost everything this forum has talked about except traction.  I just can't bring myself to do it.  So I don't think it would be scientific to say that VI's made the difference.  But some combination of VI's, VED, paba, ubiquionol, pentox, L-Arginine, Vitamin E.... seemed to make a big difference.  And the periods of greatest improvement seemed to be about 3-6 months following a round of 6 VI's.
