Hi All

Here's my situation and I would appreciate any advice.

Early forties, Diagnosed with Dupuytren's disease this year.

Have been suffering with ongoing pain in the last few months which has got worse recently.
Pain is pretty constant when flaccid and aggravated after sex.
No lumps or unusual curvature.

From what I've read, I am concerned that if it is Peyronies Disease (and the connection with DD makes me think it is), I should be doing something about it know.

GP prescribed pain killers but nothing else.
I have booked to see them again as pain not going away.

Q: How can Peyronies Disease be diagnosed without plaque or curvature?
Q: What is first line treatment? Should I be asking for Pentox? Anything else?

I don't want to panic but I don't want to wait for this to get worse either.

Any help much appreciated.

The best advice right now is get to one of the great Male Sexual Function Specialist that specialize in treating men with peyronies.

Dr. Milam in Nashville TN
Dr. Levine in Chicago
Dr. Lue in California

Haven't heard this before.

Have you had an ultrasound done?  Have you seen a urologist who has experience with Peyronies?  Keep in mind that you may not have Peyronies - don't get fixated on that idea.

Some doctors recommend abstaining for 6 weeks from all sexual activity when you have pain.  Talk with your doctor about this.

I'm not a doctor but you don't have classical signs.  I would want to see a urologist and also talk about abstaining in case you are doing damage that will later manifest itself as scar tissue.

It does not sound like Peyronies Disease... even though there is a link to DC.  If you have no lump or curve, it's sort of like saying my hand is sore - but I have no cord or stiffness... so how can I get diagnosed for DC & treated?  There's probably something else going on.

Thanks Mike and the other guys that commented too. I take your point, it's just that I've tried to find some other sort of cause and symptoms don't seem to match. Also, I read a post by Old Guy I think it was who said that, in his opinion, any pain or sensitivity was likely to be early stages. I guess another question would be, does Peyronies Disease only present pain after visual symptoms appear?

I am waiting to get some medical input, but any further thoughts or comments welcome. (From what I've read, there seems more experience to draw on from this forum than some docs!)

Happy New Year!

Pain could be any number of things.  e.g. you could have a fracture that's very small - no scar tissue.  Impossible to diagnose over the net or by google searches.  Best bet is to see a doctor who can figure it out.  Also, try abstaining from sex for a while - I believe 6 weeks is usually the prescribed duration.

I had a similar onset of Peyronies Disease. I experienced pain that I thought was prostatitis at first. I went on Cipro but then started getting sharper pains during erection, but no curve. The plaque and curve didn't start until about three months in and has increased steadily since (about six months in now), even with Verapamil injections. My experience with urologists has been that they won't call it Peyronies Disease until there is a curve. One actually told me to come back if/when a curvature started. Way to be proactive!

I'm still trying to find the right first line treatment. Vitamin E and Colchine didn't work for me. Verapamil has helped the pain somewhat, but not the curve. Just started Pentox and bought a VED. Based upon what I've read here that's a winning combination for most after some time. Although my urologist seems to think that Verapamil will eventually dissolve the plaque. I'm not so sure based upon what I've read here as it seems to be hit or miss. I don't know if this helps but I hope you are able to determine what the cause is.

ED will start happening before the plaque and before the curve.  Actual pain, though, I don't know.

Cipro and levaquin absolutely cause Peyronies Disease and nobody wants to admit it or study it.  The same process that causes these drugs to tear your Achilles tendon (interactions with DNA gyrase and other biochemical processes) causes them to disrupt the tunica.  It does not happen in everyone (just like everyone doesn't rupture their tendons when they take these drugs) but it happens in unlucky people.  I would stay away from these drugs at all costs.  An absurdly high percentage of young guys on this forum - who should NOT have Peyronie's disease at their age (including me) took one of these drugs for extended periods of time (or multiple doses over time).  Given the theory to support the link, I do not think this is a coincidence.

Another thing about Cirpo. If you have a heart condition that causes irregular hear beat do not take Cipro. Buried in the fine print one of the "rare" side effects of Cipro is irregular heart beat.

I had kidney stones and my local urologist put me on Cipro for a week. Then I had to have a tooth pulled and the dentist put me on Cipro because I have heart stents. In the middle of the second round of Cipro I was taken by ambulance to the hospital in a-fib with chest pain.

After spending a week in the hospital and going through a cardiac cath, after they got my a-fib stable. My heart dotcor told me to never take Cipro again. It does cause irregular heart beat. Also if you have heart stents there is no need to take an antibiotic for any dental procedure just because you have heart stents.

Before I had peyronies I took a lot of Cipro for prostate infections. It may have cause my peyronies it sure did not help.

JackP:

Adding my 2 cents to your post about taking Cipro with a heart condition. I had three stents put in in February 2004 as a result of a heart cath when I had a mild heart attack. In late August of that year, went in for my 6 months heart checkup. The cardiologist found a problem and recommended another stress test which failed after only a few minutes into the procedure. A heart cath was scheduled for the next day and about half way through that procedure, it was determined that open heart surgery would be necessary since there were 90% blockages of three arteries. The surgery was done the next day again with three bypasses being done. I mentioned to the anethetist during his prep session about being on Cipro and he said that my heart problems could be related to the medicine, but had no way of proving it. Anyway, I refuse to take Cipro for anything now if I know that it is going to be RXd. (I now have three stents and three bypasses overall)

I did take a lot of Cipro for prostate problems early on with my prostate cancer and again after a right hip joint replacement in February 20002. So, I have concluded that Cipro can and will cause some bad side effects.

I just wanted to add to this whole Cipro thing.. My Peyronies started after my second round with Cipro for a supposed "prostate infection", altho no bacteria wa found, I was put on Cipro for like 6 weeks and it was in the 3rd or 4th week I noticed a curve. I had penis pain before, I guess thats where they got the prostate infection idea from. I had this peyronies a little more then a year now and I saw Dr Mulhall in NY who told me I had the "mildest form of the disease" and my pain was from "CPPS". Im still waiting to see him again since my insurance sucks and dosent want to cover it and im doubtful he can help me. I take Coq10, Vit E which help (i think) and no dr will prescribe this Pentox for some reason. Im kinda stuck hoping for the best but im positive Cipro caused this along w/some other unrelated issues (dizziness) which I never recovered from. Im kinda at a loss here and just hoping itll go away since its so "mild". Im 27 which is young for peyronies and prostatitis and im not convinced which is causing my pain, but yeah def stay away from Cipro unless your on your death bed...
