My Journey with Peyronie's Disease: From Despair to Hope

In July 2022, my life took an unexpected turn. I went from being extremely sexually active to experiencing unbearable pain and a rapid decline in my ability to maintain an erection. This sudden change left me confused, scared, and desperate for answers.

For two years, I fought against my condition. I tried everything—medications, pumps, and stretching exercises—but nothing seemed to help. Each day was a battle against pain and frustration. My confidence plummeted, and the joy I once found in intimacy vanished. The physical pain was relentless, but the emotional toll was even more devastating.

There were moments when I felt utterly hopeless. The thought of ending my life crossed my mind more times than I can count. I missed my old self, the person who was full of life and passion. It was a dark and lonely place to be, and I struggled to see a way out.

But I held on. I reached out for help, even when it felt like the hardest thing to do. I found support in friends, family, and professionals who helped me navigate this challenging journey. Their encouragement gave me the strength to keep going, even on the darkest days.

Now, I am facing surgery as my last option. The fear is overwhelming, but so is the hope for a better future. This surgery represents a chance to regain control over my life and to find relief from the pain that has haunted me for so long.

I know the road ahead won't be easy, but I am determined to keep fighting. This journey has taught me about resilience, the importance of seeking help, and the power of hope. If my story can help even one person feel less alone in their struggle, then sharing it is worth it.

To anyone else going through something similar, know that you are not alone. There is help out there, and there is hope. Keep fighting, and don't be afraid to reach out for support. Your life is worth it.

Everyday I will post my journey here!

Hi I'm 58, Been with my partner for 29 years. My first symptoms showed up in the summer 2022 with pain on my right side of my penis. I had no idea what it was, Feb 2023 I got a lump on my dick and the rest is history

Welcome Djl1965 to the forum. Thank you for filling out your signature line. If you havnt done so please study our survival guide --> Survival Guide .

So you are scheduled for an implant. When you say you have tried everything have you actually used the Restorex or PenimassterPro for traction? Manual stretching exercises will not give you the proper form of treatment the way a device does. You can even cause further damage to your penis because you do not have control over the pulling force applied to your penis.

I assume that you have also used tadalafil or like drugs? Do you have any erections at all?
It sounds like you do have the support group around you and you have come to terms with your condition. Peyronies is devastating and we all here have gone through very similar emotional states.

So hopefully you have chosen a high volume well established implant surgeon to perform the procedure. This will determine your successful outcome. An implant should be considered if you actually have exhausted all other options and you do have full erectile failure. It is successful in the hands of the right Dr. Are you close to New York? Dr Eid is the top implant surgeon here in the USA. He is also a moderator on our forum here. Just making sure you do have a top implant surgeon if you do not.

Again welcome to the forum and study it for you will not get a lot of the information provided here from a Dr.       :)

I tried everything recommended: Trimix injections, pumps, and RestoreX. Unfortunately, due to angina and nitro medication, I couldn't take Cialis or Viagra. With a 60-degree bend, nothing seemed to alleviate my condition. But then I found Dr. Yonah Krakowsky in Toronto. I've seen him three times so far, and I feel very confident that he's the right doctor for me.

Hey fellow Canadian! Welcome aboard!

I wasn't expecting to see anybody posting here that they were going to have surgery for a penile implant in Canada, let alone Toronto. I never heard of this doctor before, but it seems that you have done your research.

How easy was for you to get a referral to him? Like Mikel said, experience is key. Hopefully this doctor has done a substantial amount of these procedures and you will be having an excellent result.

Did he share with you by any chance which implant brand he would be using on you?

My penile implant surgery took place on Monday at 7:45 am, and it was completed by 10:35 am. Initially, the pain was greater than I expected, though I did get some relief later that night. The first night post-surgery was horrible—I managed to sleep only 2 hours due to the pain. It's important to note that narcotics and I don't mix well. They make me super agitated, so I was only taking 5 mg instead of the prescribed 10 mg of oxycodone. I definitely don't enjoy the "trip" that narcotics induce.

Day 2 was not easy at all. I had to take a higher dose of medication at one point, and I also reacted to the general anesthetic, which made my entire body feel like it had worked out for an entire day. I experienced soreness like never before, and I could basically not walk.

On Wednesday, the drain was removed, which brought some relief. That night, I managed to sleep a total of 10 hours, with just one pee break in between. However, Thursday has been quite rough. My scrotum has swollen to the size of a very large grapefruit and is basically black.

Considering my medical history, I was on blood thinners due to having had two heart attacks and stents put in a year ago. I had to stop taking the blood thinners 10 days before the surgery and resumed them on Wednesday. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

It seems us older guys have more pain than younger, but we all perceive pain differently.
I am sorry you have to go through this.
BUT
I THINK YOU SHOULD CONTACT YOUR SURGEON IMMEDIATELY.
A large black grapefruit size scrotum is not normal.
CALL YOUR DOCTOR ASAP.
Let us know what happens.

I've reach out to my dr and he's not super concerned. they started me on the blood thinners the following day after the surgery as per the cardiologist. If I even get pinched I sure take blue black so this seems like what's happened to my cut on my scrotum. the swelling has gone down a bit today.lets see what tomorrow brings !

Hopefully you won't have any issues during your recovery... Congratulations on having it done! Very curious to know how satisfied you will be with your new implant.

Best of luck!

It's been a rough three weeks—lots of pain, swelling, a scrotal hematoma, and scar tissue. The pain is finally starting to ease up, and I haven't needed narcotics since Wednesday, just taking Tylenol now. The pain seems to come and go, especially in my shaft. My left testicle is out hanging on its own, while my pump and right testicle seem to be hiding under scar tissue and the hematoma.

I've had moments of feeling really discouraged, questioning what the hell I've done. But I saw my surgeon on Friday, and he assured me that I'm doing much better than most guys at the 2.5-week mark. I'm always tired, and walking is still hard because of the pain and the size of my scrotum. Last weekend, I had an ultrasound done—no signs of infection, just the hematoma surrounding my right testicle and the pump. My blood work came back perfect, so that's a relief.

What implant did you get, the first implant is tough, should be getting quite a bit easier in another week or so.

DJ,
I am sorry for what you are going through, but many of us have questioned did we do the right thing in getting an implant.
The pain is more intense for some and not so much for others. I had a lot of pain too and the pump was a real nuisance as it was always fighting with my balls.
On quite a few occasions, I would say "why have I done this? What did I do to myself?"
I know it's rough.
This too will pass.
As time goes on, the pain will diminish.
Good thoughts for you,
StepOne

Thanks for the note of encouragement Stepone. It's always nice to hear from others that I'm not alone! Today is a better day—I actually slept for 8 hours straight without waking up in pain. I'm taking Tylenol every 6 hours, and it seems to be helping. I'd say my pain is down by about 40% since last Tuesday, the 13th, which was 2 weeks and 1 day after surgery. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks, and I feel like I've turned a corner and am on the path to better days. This morning, I could finally feel and touch my pump, and the swelling is down a bit.

It's been 23 days since the implant surgery and the removal of some plaque, and I'm still dealing with pain. I stopped taking narcotics a week ago and am now relying on Tylenol every 6 hours. I'm managing, but I'm still spending most of my time lying down, and walking is painful and difficult.

I had an ultrasound 8 days ago, and it showed that my right testicle and pump are sitting in a hematoma and lots of scar tissue, but no infection. Over the last few days, I've been able to feel the edge of the pump and part of my right testicle, which is a bit reassuring. The pump is supposed to be activated on September 5th, but the doctor is unsure if it will be ready for the official launch!

All in all, this has been much harder than I expected it to be. I keep hearing talk of possible revisions down the road, and it's not something I can easily wrap my head around right now!

I know I'm not alone, and many other implant guys have gone through the same rough patch that I'm living. All I can hope is that I can get back on my feet soon and start feeling like myself again. I've had several major surgeries in my lifetime and got through them pretty easily, but not this one. It has knocked me out and has made me tired, anxious, and just plain out of it.

Hang in there, the initial implant is the worse by far.  You will soon say you should have done it sooner, best thing I could have done, man this new pecker is awesome.  I remember the first and it was no picnic but after a couple of months things really improved, wear the best underwear that you can find that feels comfortable, also try a baby sock for your penis head to keep from rubbing, I actually wore a lubricated condom for awhile when I went to work, glans were very sensitive.  Hope things get better soon for you, keep the faith.

Day 27 and I finally feel like I'm on the mend. I slept 14 hours straight last Wednesday night and woke up Thursday feeling better. I only took Tylenol once today so far. I had brunch at a local restaurant with a few cocktails and spent 2 hours on the beach. Sitting is doable, swelling is down, but there's still a ways to go. I can feel three sides of my pump, and my right testicle seems to be finding its way back to me! The hematoma is shrinking a little bit every day.

I'm enjoying a glass of wine as I'm writing this—haven't had wine since July 20th. All of this to say that at 57 years old, being diagnosed with Peyronie's in March 2023 and then suffering two heart attacks back-to-back at the end of April that same year was overwhelming. The challenges I've gone through have been, to say the least, horrific. Not being able to treat ED with oral medication due to angina, trying Trimix (which I wouldn't recommend and think made my Peyronies Disease worse), I've done the pump, the stretcher, and none made a difference. I had a 70% bend and an hourglass dent, with very few options left. But sitting here tonight, I feel hopeful that the implant was the right choice for me.

I haven't been able to use it yet—my pump will be activated on September 5th. My pecker is still inflated and pointing to the sky, but I do feel sensation and still get the odd nocturnal erections, which hurt like hell and wake me up—but I'm happy to have sensation.

Djl,
Thanks for the report.
Yes you have been through a lot.
Big hugs to you.
I was still apprehensive about my choice of getting the pump, but as time went on and things got better, I then wished I had gotten the pump years sooner.
I am very happy with my "new" penis.
It totally outperforms my old penis and my new penis is definitely thicker.
My new rock hard penis has given me my self worth back to me.
I am sure as time goes on, things will only get better and better.
Stay safe,
