Hi!

My Name is John, I'm in Washington State and will be travelling to see Dr. Hehemann at the UW Men's Health Center next month. When I made the appointment, the scheduler assured me that Dr. Hehemann was a specialist in Peyronies Disease. Has anyone had experience with her or know someone who has?

Travelling to the west side as the only urology clinic in my area is 6 months out for a new patient. After a little research, I decided that waiting that long to be see wasn't in my best interest.

I noticed pain back in November and then in December, I noticed that my penis was starting to curve left. Both pain and curve steadily got worse during erections. I finally worked up the nerve to discuss it with my spouse who made me contact our PCP physician for any advice she could offer. Her response was to refer me to a urologist. I chose to travel to Seattle as they could get me in sooner than the clinic here in Spokane.

I'm young with no ED other than this so would like to keep my treatment conservative but still effective.

Hello John and welcome to the forum. Thank you for filling out your signature line. Also if you have not done so you should read the survival guide to educate yourself on peyronies -->https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,3180.0.html . On your first visit to your Dr you need to be educated with a list of questions for yourself. Traction therapy started early can reduce  curving and future length loss of your penis. VED therapy also can help too. Get a hold of your emotional state early on as this disease affects our minds and psyches. Many Dr's who claim to be experts are not, but can give you some direction as to what is going on internally with a doppler penile scan.

Thanks for the responses! I ordered Restorex and started using that last week. I really can't wait to try the makeup pads to see if that's more comfortable/convenient than wrapping. Such Fun...

I already started a list of questions to ask and get some clarity. This forum and the links have been invaluable.

Mentally, I think I'm fine, my penis never was a huge part of my identity or masculinity. We've been avoiding sex as erections are painful right now so I'm hoping the Dr. Has some suggestions. My husband has been extremely understanding and supportive which is probably why mentally, I'm doing alright.

The makeup pads really provide such comfort and gripping action that you don't even have to use the tape to wrap.

So, I had my appointment at the UW Men's Health Center in Seattle and saw Dr Marah Hehemann. She was incredibly supportive and kind. She did a physical exam and identified a 4mm plaque that was causing the bend. When I told her I started Restorex she said that I should continue using it for the recommended time and said she's had many people reporting good results from its use. She prescribed pentoxifylline and tadalifil. She reassured me that there are multiple treatments but we should always start with the least invasive. She let me know that in large part, treatment depends on my own perception. If I and my spouse are fine with where I'm at, that's what is important. She also let me know that 1/8 men experience Peyronies Disease and that it can impact men at any point in their lives but that it's most commonly noticed post 45ish but can manifest much earlier as well. While it wasn't an amazing experience due to the personal nature, I would recommend if you're in the Seattle area. She was very interested in hearing that make up pads work wonders for Restorex as many times her patients have expressed their discomfort with the device. I have a tele-med follow up in 3 months to discuss where I'm at and hoping that I'm through the acute phase by then. She did caution me that the painful erections could last beyond that but encouraged me not to pull back my sex life if it's painful as the pain isn't causing any further damage. I would recommend her without reservation at this point.

That's awesome that you found a Dr that seems to listen to their patients and has some knowledge regarding peyronies. Someone you can work with and are not afraid to ask questions and explore other treatments down the road. I would stay with her as her diagnosis appears correct and she doesn't seem arrogant. Keep us updated and have a mindset about this journey being a marathon and don't expect overnight success.
