Hi, I have been prescribed pentoxifylline 400mg to take 3 times daily. It seems to be helping me. However, I don't like the side effects (drowsiness upset stomach etc.)

If I stop taking the pentoxifylline will the scar tissue return to "pre pentoxifylline" state or will it stay in the same state it is when I stop? I guess my question is does pentoxifylline permanently break up the scar tissue or only while on treatment?

I have not heard of one person that had improvements in curve or length or indentation or plaque with any oral treatment. Maybe increased blood flow, but nothing else. And maybe increased blood flow protects you from further damage through trauma but that's it. Don't put to much hope in any treatment. If anything would really help, this forum would not exist....

31 yrs old; in a supportiv relationship
first symptoms and diagnosed in february 2018
severe progression since spring 2020
several plaque/indentations and currently 40° up curve

Hey there. Unfortunately, the latest evidence points out to pentox not being effective at all. It doesn't harm you, but there is no evidence it actually helps with Peyronies. Other than improving erections due to more blood flow. But you can take it.

It did nothing for me, when i took it

I understand everyones comments on ineffective pentox, but the increased blood flow would be welcome. Does anyone know where I can purchase online? Please DM if not openly discussed.

Is that sort of the consensus in this board now — skip pentox?

I listened to YouTube training videos (lectures for folks taking their urology boards) from Dr Kashanian at Cornell Weill. 2022 video. He does not prescribe it. Just Cialis.

Same for Dr Trost based on what I read on his board here. Cialis for "internal traction." No Pentox. He did a video on same.

I saw another grand rounds training video from 2022. Same.

I have a prescription for it. I am not taking it yet. I am early stage acute. No curve. Pain. And wondering if I should. The fear of course is it has bad side effects or even somehow mitigates the Cialis I am taking, for no gain.  Just curious what folks think or hear from their docs.
46 years old. Developed pain in penis Sept 2022. Slight curve (I think!). Diagnosed 2 weeks later with a palpable small plaque. Flaccid ultrasound was clear. On 5mg Cialis daily. Arginine. Debating Pentox, traction and coq10. Family history.

It doesn't mitigate the Cialis, they both improve blood flow. And being in acute phase improving blood flow makes sense.

If it were me, I would try the pentox. If you experience side effects, then just stop taking it.

what does he mean by 'internal traction'?
27 y. o. Peyronies since 2020: S curvature with the top part tilting to the left - 15*. Multiple nodules and scarring on each side, mild hourglassing. Getting worse every few months, losing width. Normal penile function. Enlarged veins.

I think he just means that having a good erection is stretching the scar tissue "from within" just as traction would stretch it by external means.

51 yrs. old, multiple auto-immune conditions. First episode of Peyronies Disease in 2002. Recurred a couple times since. Over the years I have tried Topical Verapamil, Iontophoresis, all the supps and Cialis + Pentoxifylline. Still functional, always worried.

I found the combination of trental (pentox) and cialis daily (5mg a day) beneficial during the acute stage. Helped a lot with blood flow, and improved erections.

There is a post somewhere on the board which has a collection of user reviews on pentox, some found benefit, some didn't.

I agree with LWillisjr. I would try it if I were you, improved bloodflow can help in the acute phase. If the side effects become too much, I'd stop.

My urologist said, if pentox doesn't do much after 8-9 months, it probably will not be of benefit taking it any longer.  So, you could try it for 8 months at least.
