Do Xiaflex injections help improve implant outcomes for Peyronies?

Hello to all and thanks for reading. I'm new here so I apologize if this is a repeat question. I not only suffer from peyronies, but have significant ED as well. This has been going on for at least 6 years as I have been in a state of denial about pursing any options other than Trimix injections. The injections have helped but are a pain in many ways. penetrative sex remains very difficult and depressing due to the curvature.

I think I'm heading for an implant once I get my mind accepting of it. I know remodeling during  implant surgery with peyronies is often done. My question (finally asking it) is whether Xiaflex treatment prior to implant surgery, is likely to make for a successful outcome for the curvature (mine is about 40 degrees ) any more likely. I asked two urologists about this and got different answers. As of now I'm  planning (at least for now) in getting the injections but wonder if will be a waste if get them and should just get an implant.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help.

Welcome Brucesand to the forum! The first thing if you have not done so is to read our survival guide and educate yourself on peyronies -->https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,3180.msg44057.html#msg44057 . Then if you would also fill out your signature line -->https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,10819.0.html . This gives a quick snapshot to other members answering your questions and you will also get a better response.

I must first ask you if you are aware that Trimix can also be a culprit in guys developing peyronies? So I would be careful in using it. You also ask about Xiaflex and there is a lot of info here regarding it. The degree that it works is unpredictable in many guys. It depends a lot on the skill of the Dr. Also if you are looking to get an implant read up on the forum as there is a wealth of knowledge about it. The founder of this forum has had one and has counseled others about it.

There are also other numerous success stories here from guys receiving an implant. read their stories and educate yourself. We also have here, in my opinion, the top surgeon in the world for performing an implant - Dr Eid.  He has a board of is own that he answers members questions.

Peyronies is a devastating disease and keep things in perspecive and develop a plan of action. Doing nothing is going to get you nowhere. :) Mikel7

Thanks for the information. I will be reading the links you referenced. To answer one of your questions I started trimix about 3 years ago when I had "plain vanilla " ED. It worked well and during sex with my girlfriend at that time, she was thrusting while on top of me and "missed". What I thought was only some minor trauma resulted in my Peyronies.

Without going into a lot of detail, since that time my sex life went downhill. I had little desire and avoided relationships. But I'm now 66 and want to go back to dating and look for a partner. my sexual issues have kept me from taking positive action. I am now trying to be more proactive but it's still difficult.

I am finally more accepting of my situation. I know I'm headed for an implant. I am confident it will help my ED but less clear about how it will fix my curvature. One doctor I saw wanted to do the injections prior to implant, stating it would help with remodeling. Another urologist felt confident (but obviously did not say for certain) that the Peyronies could be corrected during the implant surgery without the need for Xiaflex injections. However, he also stated he would do the injections first, if I preferred to go that route.

I'm leaning toward going ahead with the injections first. I feel if I did the implant only and was still left with a significant curvature I'd be quite upset.

So that is my current situation. My sense is that there is no right or wrong answer to my initial post question.

Thanks again. I wish you well.

Bruce's,
I am curious as to how you are doing.
A very important thing to consider is age.
I think the xiaflex works better for younger men.
I also think if you are doing injections for the erections, you are causing more damage to your penis.
I would visit a high volume implant surgeon and get his opinion.
Urologists very a lot on their suggestions. I visited over 5 different urologists, before even one of them mentioning an implant. This was 7 years ago and things have changed, but some urologists are still lacking experience in discussing implants and therefore don't.
Only you can make that decision, but a good high volume implant surgeon can certainly explain what you could expect with an implant.
Hope this helps,
