About to have surgery, questions about it

I am supposed to undergo a surgery to fix the congenital penis curvature issue.

In my case, the curvature is in 3 different planes (left, downwards, and rotating). I live in a country with top-notch urological surgeons who specialise in these things, and after consulting with one, he told me that the curvature is very severe and complex, and that the surgical procedure is to shorten the longer side with proper geometrical principles.
A different approach would be to incise the shortened side and then reconstruct it using biomaterial grafts, thus elongating the entire penis itself, but in my case this isn't possible due to the complex nature of the curvature.
Some side effects he mentioned is possible numbing of the tip of the penis for some time, due to them having to probably cut a nerve or two, and due to them having to perform a circumcision.

I have a few questions that I didn't thought of asking at the time of the checkup, and I'll ask the doctor as well, but asking here just in case anybody else can answer...:
1. This is different than the tucking procedure (plication), right? He mentioned something about self-absorbing stitches, but nothing about permanent stitches.
2. Is circumcision necessary? And if so, what kind... total or just partial? Also, what are your experiences with circumcision? Obviously I read some horror stories, and how people would have liked to have not done it, but also others saying that their sensation didn't change much
3. How long after the surgery does the loss of sensation in the glans last? Weeks, months, years...?Also, does the loss of sensation happen because of circumcision, or because of them cutting up some nerves, or because of both reasons?
4. What's the general recovery period after the surgery? After how long can you start walking, and when can you start exercising, and when can you start having sex?

Thanks up front for any answers

Hey man congrats on surgery

I am not 100% sure about questions 1-2 so I do not want to give out wrong information.

For questions 3-4 I really think everyone is different and everyone will have a different answer. For question 3, everyone loses sensation and regains it at a different time. For some people it takes longer then others but as long as it comes back that is what matters. For question 4, I believe most people from this forum start walking right away but obviously there will be pain/discomfort for some time. I am not sure about when you will be exercising but In terms of having sex most people on this forum it usually takes a minimum of 3 months from what I see with most penile implants( I know you're not having a penile implant , just saying this because it's a major surgery on the penis) other surgery's.

Good luck! Make sure to provide updates so others on this forum can learn

Hey just an update
I'm 5 days away from the surgery.
In the end, I scheduled with a different doctor. From what I've been able to gather, this doctor is (one of) the best in the world for solving these kinds of problems.
Two key differences from the previous doctor that he told me about:
1. He will only perform partial circumcision. I wasn't even sure if he said he'd do it because he 100% needs to, but rather he noticed that I am indeed in need of one. I agreed with that
2. He said that he DOES NOT cut any nerve endings. I didn't ask him about the loss of sensation, but I asked him if there was any risk about ED, and he said "no, none, I don't cut your nerves"
All in all I am hopeful. I will report here with the results when I'm done (in a week or so hopefully)

Who is your surgeon?
Circumcision, even partial, is not obligatory, I advise you not to do it

OK, day 1 post surgery
I was told it went successful. I believe the method used was something similar to the STAGE procedure mentioned around here, as the doctor kept saying "I fixed everything I mathematically could".
I'm feeling fine overall, though I do have some loss of sensation in the tip/glans. When I asked the doctor about it, his response was "Hm, shouldn't happen because I didn't cut any of your nerves. Could be that it's a little numb because of the bandages, but overall do not worry, you won't lose the sensation permanently."

Also, in the end he did do a circumssiion. I don't know how much he took off, but he said he took off anything where he deemed it was necessary because the foreskin was too tight. And I did have a bit tight foreskin, but I didn't really have issues with it before. He said also he can't tell at this point how much will be left to cover the tip of the penis in rest/flaccid state. I guess I'll see in a couple of days when I go for check ups and to take of the bandages.

That's my experience overall. To be honest, I wasn't that afraid of the anestesia, nor of the correction results. The thing that I was mostly afraid was the circumssiion part, as I read some horror stories here. But alas, what's done is done. I'll wait up for it to heal a little bit, and then report further about longer term results.

Day 8 update
Ok so I'm a bit freaking out now, for multiple reasons

Initially in the first couple of days, while I still had the compression bandage, it was ok... Night erection would wake me up, I was taking some painkillers, and hoping that this was it.
But a week after the surgery they took the compression off, said everything was ok, and that I come in 1 month for a check up.

Fast forward to tomorrow (day 8), I have the following problems:
1. The swelling around the glans is HUGE. The doctor said it's to be expected and will go away, but it's so uncomfortable.
2. While flaccid, my penis feels kind of... hard. Which is driving me insane at this point. I have no idea if this is normal or not? Hopefully it to be expected because of the recent surgery, but man am I freaking out...
3. Finally, from this point of view, I don't feel like the surgery did anything at all.
During my consultations, I noted the 3 different curvatures I had (frontal downwards, lateral to the left, and base rotation), and the doctor said he'll take care of everything. But on the discharge paper, it only said "lateral curvature was fixed via a longitudinal incision and subsequent orthogonal sutures, following the stabilization of the neurovascular bundle". I have no idea what this means, but I'm depressed as hell at this point. The downwards curve was the most problematic for me, as that one was making intercourse nigh impossible.

Also I can feel some sutures all the way down to my shaft, near the scrotum, on the bottom side.
I would sure like some words of reassurement by someone at this point

Congratulations on the surgery you had.

I think 8 days is still very early in the healing process. The first few weeks are very tough. I guess after 6-8 weeks you can get more of an idea of the surgery results. You just have to be patient for now.

Hey thank you for the positive answer
Small update for day 13:
The healing is better, most of the pain is gone. The swelling is still there, asked the doctor about it, he said it's expected and that for some people it goes away faster for some it takes a little bit longer, but it will eventually fade away.
The hardness that I felt while flaccid is also present less now. I assume those were the stitches/plications inside. If I'm completely relaxed/flaccid, it definitely doesn't feel as hard, I could just be tense a lot these days, so that why I felt it before.

And finally, for the actual curvature correction... Well it definitely is better now... When a night erection wakes me up, I can see the straightness, it's there. I didn't understand before that the plications work mainly in the erect state. So while I can still see some curve and rotation while flaccid, this seems to go away while erect.
The erections are still a bit painful and uncomfortable, and at this point I'm trying my best not to think about sex (though it's the thing I think about most during waking hours

One small problem that I'm noticing now is that when fully erect, the penis is point up, i.e. if I lay on my back, it's point towards my head, and not towards the ceiling (which was kinds the case in my previous state). And if I try to point it away (for example, towards the ceiling) ,it's EXTREMELY painful, and I actually can't even do it. This is what worries me the most at this point. I hope this will go away as well

Day 15 update:
I am able to actually withstand full erections now and see the results

The downwards curve is fixed, and that one was the most important for me, as that one was making intercourse almost impossible
The rotation seems to be fixed in the erect state. It's still there while flaccid, and I still have to use my hand to turn my penis around while urinating. But I was doing that for my whole life, and I'm not sure if this is even fixable in the flaccid state.
The lateral left curve... is still there. Which is odd to me, as the discharge papers said that this is the main curve which was being corrected. But I guess I can live with it, it doesn't seem like it will make sex impossible (like the previous ventral downwards curve). But I'll be honest, I was hoping the surgery will fix everything, but alas...

The last main issue that I'm having is, as I described previously, the penis pointing north (towards my head) when erect, and I can't move it away from that position in any way, still too painful. I'll wait 3 more weeks until I have a scheduled checkup, and see from there

Joavyer.

Very happy to see your progress. My curvature is also down and left. But no rotation. Just got out of surgery. Waiting for the nocturnal pains to hit me. Do update us on your progress after your doctor appointment

Day 17 update

At 5:30AM I got woken up by a strong erection (nothing unusual), but when I grabbed my penis, I felt this "pop" sound, most likely being that one of the sutures got torn. This freaked me out. The erection instantly and abruptly went away.

Two hours laters I noticed I am still able to have erections, and I see/feel no bleeding or swelling. Though the lateral curve that I mentioned previously, seems to be a bit more pronounced now (could be my subjective feel though)

I'll call the doctor as soon as he's available to check how big of a problem this is. But currently I'm freaked out

OK I called the doctor and he just said "that's normal" ??
and also "if there's no bleeding, that's normal, see you at the scheduled checkup in 3 weeks"

Christ I'm shook right now

Day 18 update

OK everything seems ok now... woke up this morning with an erection, and everything seemed ok
When flaccid, I was noticing this hourglass shape, which also had me worried, but during an erection it seems fine

Also, I'm not sure if this has to do with one of the sutures popping or not, but the penis is now pointing at the ceiling when I'm laying on my back with an erection, instead of pointing at my head as was previous the case (and I couldn't move it from that position in any way, it was too painful). This could be the natural course of healing as well, I don't know at this point.

All in all, when I look at the erection now, it seems ok. The front downwards curve of >75 degrees seems completely fixed, which was my main problem. A lateral curve still exists to the left, albeit very slightly (around 15degrees if I can estimate, which is ok)

The rotation is still there, which at this point I can't decide if it bothers me or not.
It doesn't bother me in a sense that it definitely does not seem problematic for sex.
It does bother me in a sense that I was hoping that the surgery would fix everything, and I'm a little disappointed that this problem is still there. I still have to turn my penis with my hands when urinating (as I was doing my whole life), and if my penis is under an erection and pointing straight, I can't move it to the right side at all for example, only to the left side. Like there's a wall there preventing me from it, but again, this was the case even before surgery.

Also I never took photos before surgery, so I can't really show the differences now...
And regarding loss of length, I also can't tell, as I never really measured my penis previously in my life, as the curvature was so complex (ventral and lateral), that I didn't even know how to measure it properly. But I guess some loss of length is there, it has to be I assume
