condition description and request for suggestions
« on: May 21, 2011, 12:48:34 PM »

I am 53 and have a stabilized Peyronies condition characterized by a string-like strand of plaque that runs from the top of my penis, just below the head, to the base. It can be felt along the top when flaccid. There are no other signs of plaque. Erection is curved somewhat upward (significantly improved from when the disease first took hold), and the curve is not severe enough now to prevent intercourse. If I still had my original length -- or even 80% of it, I would be functioning just fine.  But my length is greatly reduced, from about 8 inches erect when my penis was straight a few years ago to around 4".  This shortening is a distressing change and has largely ruined intercourse with my wife, who is not a small woman. I have trouble staying in, to say the least. We try, but just can't seem to make it work in a way that is satisfactory for her -- and thus not for me either.  I am fully aware of all the other ways to please each other, but that's not the point.  I am interested in learning if there is anything I can try, or anyone I can see, anywhere in the US to try to get back some length. I live in a city of 1 million-plus, with a good medical community. Yes, I tried Vitamin E and some topical "remedies."  No effect.  I have also seen 2 urologists, from different groups and who were highly recommended locally.  Both seem to have read whatever basic literature is available to them and both of whom offered no meaningful suggestions.  Their attitude was basically:  you can still get erections and you can still sort of have intercourse, so just live with it... I gave stretching a try but saw no effect (maybe I didn't do it long enough, but it seems pointless since the plaque is the problem and it cannot be stretched away)

Since I have palpable plaque, can it be removed surgically, and if it is removed, would I regain any length?  Is there any other way to break up or remove this thin strand that seems to be causing me so much distress and loss of function? The types of surgical procedures described on this site and in all the literature I can find do not seem to address my questions. I obviously would not want anything that shortened my penis further; I do not need or want an implant... Thanks for any suggestions

Regaining length takes time. You said you tried traction but for how long???  It is a long slow process. You would need to see a specialist to try anything as far as softening or "breaking this up".

I agree. In fact the key to any peyronie's treatment is patience. It's very difficult because we of course would all like instant answers, but many men here have made progress in a slow and study fashion with VED, traction etc.
