I have tried VED and Restorex for around one year. Did a lot for my curvature but not much for improving the stability. Verapamil has helped with that though, but from what I have read it does not have that effect on everyone.

Interesting, I feel like it's rare that people still use verapamil. Is that true? Interestingly enough I remember reading a notable study that talked specifically about verapamil treating deformities like hourglass-and the results seemed good. Although, I have read many people here who had bad experiences. Tbh I think I'd be willing to give it a shot before resorting to surgery. Have you talked to anyone else who fixed their hourglass with verapamil?

Also, I'd be curious to know the full story on how your journey went from your worst point with hourglass to current.

Hey,

I agree, I think urologists who used to use Xiaflex has resorted to the older substances like Verapamil, Hyaloric acid and Interferon when Xiaflex became restricted to the US. The doctor who treated me mentioned that as well, so I think it is just about offering treatment options aside from surgery and implants. I have also read on the forum that doctors in the US tends to offer it as it is not covered by medical insurance but I have no first hand experience of that so not sure.

There are quite a few differences between the two. Verapamil is an old substance compared to Xiaflex and the results are less dramatic, plus you need more injections during a treatment. For Xiaflex you start seeing the results after only a few injections, with a standard treatment involving 3 injections, or so I understand at least. With Verapamil, each session involves 13 injections, at least for me, and I had 12 sessions so that is a lot of injections.

My take is that Verapamil as a substance is probably safer than Xiaflex, i.e. fever injections and less chance of any backlash, but that the results are also less dramatic. The success more depends on who is treating you since each injection does pose a risk. I would only go with a specialist who has documented experience using Verapamil. I know Dr Trost is not a huge fan of it anymore but I am sure there must be other urologists in the US who offer it.

I have not spoken to anyone else who has been treated with Verapamil so please take this perspective as based on my experience alone. I would say thought that prior to having the injections my curvature was definitely worse (+30 degrees) and almost every attempt at penetration failed. It was only the lower half of the penis that remained erect. Nowadays, especially with Cialis, the whole length remains erect and the curvature is closer to 15 degrees.

I have been planning on writing a larger post about my journey but just have not gotten around to do it yet.

Hope that helps though, feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions as well.

Thanks man!

I was going to DM you but figured I'll reply here as I'm sure your experience will benefit others.

Do you mind giving a timeline of how things went for you? Like onset of symptoms, how long until you tried the verapamil, how long until you saw improvements to shape, rigidity, etc. Curious if the timing implied it was actually the verapamil that made the improvement or if it was just time itself. Shoot, if I could even get 20% more rigid from
Verapamil I'd accept that and be happy. I honestly think we have (or had) identical situations. So your feedback is super
Important to me and gives some hope I can get a little better without surgery

Hey,

Sure, I'll provide a breakdown below.

In terms of the background and what I started out with before the Verapamil, you can find a detailed account here: https://www.peyroniesforum.net/index.php/topic,14856.0.html

In short:
- Had my injury during sex in Jan 2017
- First nodule started to appear in Apr 2017
- Diagnosed by urologist in May/Jun 2017
- Curvature began forming in late 2018/early 2019
- By mid 2019 the curvature/hinge effect/ED started making sex difficult
- Started Restorex, VED, Pentox and new diet in 2020
- Started Verapamil injections in Aug 2021
- Finished last round in July 2022 (the whole treatment was a bit delayed because I travel a lot for work)

In general, I think I saw the greatest improvement after the first 6 rounds on injections. This would have been in early 2022. In between the injections I used the VED as per the Dr's instructions. I also kept using my antioxidant diet. This was partly as the Dr recommended me using Vitamin E and partly because I found some research that pointed towards better results with Verapamil if you also ate a lot of antioxidants, but this was just my decision. Bottom line is that I believe that the improvements were definitely due to the Verapamil, my plaque shrunk quite a lot during the injections and I regained some girth so it cannot be a coincidence in my mind.

After the last 6 rounds, I am not sure much improved to be honest. I saw some further reduction in curvature and my erections have become a bit stronger and the penis is more rigid but the change is not as significant as after the first 6 rounds if that makes sense. I can barely feel my plaque at all anymore and the tissue is a lot more elastic but the plaque is still there and so is the curvature. The top half of the penis is also a bit more narrow than it used to be but at least I can use it when I want to!

Since the treatment, I started using the Restorex again in Dec 2022. I believe that I am losing some length if I do not use it but that can also just be my faulty measurement.

Hope that helps!
