Around 10 years ago I noticed a couple of small lumps near the tip of my penis, they generated some pain when my penis was erect. My doctor suggested I had Peyronies and sent me to a specialist who confirmed it and said there was nothing that could be done except drastic surgery that he didn't recommend at this stage so I was told to wait and see what happened.

After a few months the plaques seem to go away and then a few additional months later I noticed two more (or possibly the same ones) near the base of my penis, one on each side, the one on the left being larger (about pea size). I didn't take any action hoping these would also go away. However these stayed and caused a dent in the left side of my penis with a very slight curvature to the left but a reasonable narrowing at the base of my penis and some shortening in length.

I have lived this way for around 9 years with no pain, a slight decrease in the fullness of my erections and a reasonably active sex life. I am now 51 and of reasonable fitness, non smoker but with probably an alcohol intake above recommended limits (but who doesn't  ;))
Approximately 1 month ago I noticed that the small plaque which was on the right side on my penis seemed to have been replaced by a larger, harder plaque on the underside of my penis (although it seems to shift a little) I had a little pain initially but not much and it is not causing any further curvature although there now doesn't seem to be the counteracting on the right sight making my curvature to the left more extreme (or that may just be my imagination)

I would now like to try and do something about this before it gets worse rather and just wait and hope like the last time. Not really being much of a vitamin taker (or any regime for that matter) I started looking at some of the Web remedies and suggestions and also bought Ryan Wellman's book "Peyronies Disease Natural Treatments and Cures" I then embarked on the purchase of Unique E, Ultra Gram C, Vitalzym, Nattokinase, Aetyl-L-Carnitine and Lumbrokinase. I have been taking these in signaficant doses now for about 2 weeks.

Now after joining this form I feel I may have been a little "misled" (conned?) >:( by this book and its suggestions as firstly there does not seem to be any reference to Mr Wellman or much credit for his approaches. In addition, I downloaded an E-book, "How to dissolve your Peyronies Plaques Naturally" by William Bodri the "Skeptical Nutritionist" and found the exact same passages of text as in the Wellman book. Are they one in the same? (or just both con artists?)

I now see on your forum suggestions for ubiquinol, pentoxifylline (pentoxil?) etc. I know this is a very complex area with no real solutions however can someone possibly summarize the options that have shown some sort of progress towards helping with this disease so I can focus my efforts and finances effectively.

Thanks Graham

Graham,

You will find the solutions of choice around here (that work for many, but not all) are Pentox, Ubiquinol, and VED.  These have simply shown themselves to be most effective among a number of mediocre treatments and an unending number of useless treatments.  Those three are the ones I would pursue with patience as they take substantial time to show benefit.  They are the treatments with bona fide independent research showing them to be effective.  Along with that, I always advise 1) getting serum vitamin D levels up to 50ng/ml and 2) getting serum glucose and serum insulin levels down.  The more research I read, the more I am convinced that lowering blood sugar levels can do wonders for one's health.  Most of the docs won't tell you that, but the ones in the know will.  I wish you the very best as you seek to get a handle on this nasty disease.  - George

Hi George

Thanks for the feedback, however how do I acheive and measure the effects of the above recommendation?

Its a matter of getting a doctor to give you a lab request to get the test done.  If your not in NY state, you can do the test via the Internet if your willing to stick your finger to do it.  The test requires a full drop of blood so its pretty gruesome.  I've done it before though so it is possible.  More info on http://www.grassrootshealth.net/.  Its in some ways like Pentoxifylline.  A lot of doctors are ignorant about vitamin D and just follow what they learned in med school even though its pathetically outdated.  A lot of docs also have a bias against the new vitamin D research.  They like to prescribe things like Fosomax instead because there is big money in these drugs that stop calcium turnover in the bones and no money to be made on vitamin D which promotes healthy calcium turnover and is vital to the rest of our body in more ways than one can number.  - George

George,

I too am skeptical about the reality of author Ryan Williams and now the substance of his work.

There is no author bio or credentials offered. The author states he is a nutrionist. There is no acknowledment page thanking his supporters.  Just a disclaimer page.  This is odd.

I did a LinkedIn and Facebook search for the author and could not find anyone by that name who is in the nutrition field, healthcare, or an author.
There are alot of specific product recomendations and testing services listed.  I don't know if the advice is sound or not. I am a bit skeptical.
In the end I realy don't care if this is a pen name and the author(s) choose to be annonymous.

I just hope it is a sincere piece of reporting and not just a marketing investment for a bunch of supplement and lab testing companies.

I will add after finishing the book it is well written.    Since allopathic medacine does not provide alot of guidance in solving peyronies problems and formal studies are limited. He provides alot of general health information and hopes it will help you think creatively in solving your Peyronies issues. Alot of annalogies are used and he projects what may work. He apparently did alot of research and this is just a compilation of what he found.  It is well foot noted.
Oddly, the only recomendation he has that this board generally agrees with is the use of ALC.

His top suggestions are Thacker formular or the Wright adaptation of it and Vit E and C.

He provides some interesting information that will help you in managing your health but he admits much of it is not going to directly help you with Peyronies.

Anyone who read the book feel free to chime in............. Including Ryan Wellman.

Hello, great information. As to increasing Vitmain D and reducing Insulin levels. The Vitamin D will help to maintain vitality, which is essential when combating what we are dealing with. I am a Type 1 Diabetic and I went through a year long bout with ED because increased blood sugars and too much insulin made it difficult to achieve an erection, because blood flow is reduced and ancillary functions are pre-occupied. I reduced my sugar intake and therefore reduced my insulin, and it has helped substantially. Maintaining healthy blood flow is paramount to anything else. I am looking into the Pentox and the VED, but I'll also continue to take my prescription Vitamin D and do a better job of maintaining my blood sugar. It's good either way.
