Hello,

First, let me say that I have been traumatized by what I am self-diagnosing as Peyronies Disease. Thankfully, I have an appointment to see a urologist on 2/16. I ran into this forum looking for help, support, and guidance in an effort to reduce my escalating anxiety.

My story.

I have had some seriously bad luck in 2020. I am 48 years old and during the summer of 2020, discovered my wife was having an affair with a close, mutual friend. It was the worst, most horrifying discovery of my life, causing indescribable anxiety and motivating me to do the one thing I had sworn to never do - divorce my wife. The divorce itself was relatively easy, but it was devastating for me.

I do not believe I had Peyronies Disease prior to this, but shortly thereafter, I noticed that my penis seemed shorter. Then I realized that it was curving up, as the head was moving up. I can feel what seems to be some kind of plaque just below the head of my penis, on the top side. It is restricting growth and causing the head to curve straight up at the end of the shaft.

The plaque I describe is familiar because I have Dupuytren's Contracture in both hands. The chords were removed from both hands via a fasciectomy about 9 years ago. The surgery to both my hands was successful, although the Dupuytren's came back in one of my hands about a year later but never progressed. The chord of the Dupuytren's is kind of like this plaque I describe, acting like some kind of collar just below the head of my penis that makes it bend upwards.

By the way, Dupuytren's Contracture runs in my family.

So now I find myself here at 48, recently divorced, and with Peyronies Disease - you can imagine my mental state as I try and figure out how to rebuild my life. On the plus side, I have a great job and don't have any financial issues.

I am dreading the diagnosis. Am I supposed to have an erection in the office? How does that work? Meanwhile this seems to be progressing day by day and my penis appears to be getting shorter. Is there any hope of a reversal?

Hello, I was recently given a presumptive diagnosis via only palpation by a well-established urologist. The plaques are generally tender to the touch. No injections or sonography was suggested. I was certainly hoping that my self diagnosis was incorrect!
I wish you all the best with all the recent challenges.
No deformity or ED. Discomfort (which is improving gradually). Months of stress preceded symptoms. Discomfort can be palpated on practically the whole penis but it comes and goes. I can't find plaque. Latest urologist doubts that it is Peyronies Disease.

Hi Fib, sorry to hear about your divorce and disease. I can say my peyronies came on from prolonged mental trauma and stress as well, although there was definitely an incident that caused injury in my case. Did you have problems with your erections after the divorce? Do you experience pain with erection and without? I can say that in my case I have tried many different things but it all seemed to aggrevate the plaque, traction,
And especially restorex, manual traction, I did 1 cycle of xiaflex and it messed me up worse. The only thing that I didn't try so much was VED, but I can never get an engorged penis from it, and when you have chronic pain like I do any treatment throws you off cuz u don't know if u r making it worse. In my case I have lost 2 inches from 5.3, yes it's extreme and gained another 30degree curve downwards all after my 2nd injection of xiaflex. So the advice I have for you is, be very careful when it comes to treatment, start out slow if you decide on traction, do not have sex, and masterbation only if you don't have crazy inflammation. In the beginning I had an upward curve about 30degrees, I was dating a girl and having sex, was not a good idea, the first thing I bought was restorex and I pinched my skin on it and that triggered crazy inflammation that never went away. So just avoid anything that can cause you more inflammation and aggrevates the plaque. Sorry to not have so much good news, but this is my experience hopefully you will have good results and it will resolve for you. The mental aspect of this is immense so really try to see a sex therapist, I have not done this but I should have and probably still should. You need to get your mind right to think rationally, you have been through something devastate so you have to resolve this too and make your mind strong. I lost my father and had a really bad breakup, along with so many other life issues my mother having lymphoma and inheriting a stressful business, was very mentally draining, I should have got mental health along time ago, but ofcourse the male stigma of men not needing these things ends up costing us.

Sorry to hear that. But you have a long arduous journey ahead of you. You have dupytrrns so more then likely you will not be able to fix your situation with just tractions or other non invasive procedures.  But at the age of 48 I think getting an implant will be the best course of action.

Kobegianna. We don't know if he has ED or not, if he doesn't have ED,why does he need to have an implant? Because his penis is shorter?, for that he can use traction. Every case is different, an implant is for guys like me with ED and deformity, but if he doesn't have ED or major deformity, why an implant?

1. He has dupytrens
2. He says he has plaque and is progressing pretty quickly
3. Usually bad erection quality follows.
Obviously no one's going to get the implant immediately but usually what happens is people see little to no improvement with the supplement and non invasive procedures. They suffer through this for couple years with sub par penile function until finally they realize nothings going to work and get the implant. And what do all the people with implants say? "I wish I got it earlier"

Thank you to all for taking the time to share your thoughts. I do not have any pain and do not have ED. I find that things are easier when I take 2.5mg of Cialis. Without it, everything still works but it's more difficult to maintain. Also, I am a type 1 diabetic and my A1C is 6.2, indicating it is under control.

I agree there is mental trauma that needs to be addressed and I plan on taking care of that as I get more comfortable talking about this. This initial post and forum seems to have helped, in that I am actually writing about this rather than keeping it to myself. I will bring up what has been suggested with the urologist, when I see him in a few weeks. I also want to apply all lessons learned to whatever he suggests so that I end up on the right path.

I would imagine if the plaque growth were to stop and soften, things would go back to normal.

Fib and all, I too found myself with peyronies out of the blue, Nov 2019.  By Jan 2020 I had pain and upward curve.  After finding this site, and reading up on many, many options, consulting with current at the time urologist, I opted for surgery.  Had excision and grafting and implant.  My choice was based on my belief, seconded by 2nd urologist that xiaflex, traction, etc would help, but would leave me with curve, weak shaft, and likely would continue to get worse.  I did not want to spend hours a day in traction, sounded miserable to me.  Loss in size and curve was also a big factor, went from perfectly straight penis to this awful curved penis.  I'm 3 months out since implant, and still have to use it to see how happy I am (had to have a follow up laser on prostate, so still recovering from that).  Penis is straight now, and hope to regain some length, along with recovered/possible increase in girth.  Biggest factor for me was finding the right dr.  IMO best thing you can do.  Do your own research, ask a lot of questions and do what feels right.  I read a lot that since I didn't have ED I shouldn't get an implant, but for me that didn't fit.  Happy I went that route.  Good luck!
