Travel following surgery

So, I am going bionic on feb 14th - what irony!

I have chosen Mike Fraser based in Glasgow Uk but he is based some 400 miles away from
Me.

I am deciding how to get to and more so back home following the surgery. I plan to stay in Glasgow for 3 or 4 days following surgery and either fly to london (1h 20 mins ) and then be driven 2 hours home or, skip the flight and be driven home ( about hours with one stop ) which is obviously longer but I could potentially lie down and be more comfortable.

What would you suggest?

congratulations on your decision. I hope it goes well. There was a horror case with Mike Fraser, but Roddy described his result here on the board and he was very happy with his result. Major success case.

We went through a long trip home after my husbands surgery. A trip that should have taken 5 hours took 9, but we also had terrible rain at night.

Frequent stops to use the urinal because after being cathed during surgery, sometimes the urethra, bladder, and /or prostate are irritated. Take your urinal from the hospital when you leave. We put a waterproof pad on the seat since his compression bandage was getting soaked at the hospital using the urinal.
Be sure and have crackers or snacks and drinks on hand to take pain meds. If you get discharged late in the afternoon, it will be hard to find anything open.
Take a pillow and blanket.
If your car seats curve up on the edges, grab a flat pillow to sit on that will allow you to slide in and out easily without your scrotum dragging across the seat edge.
DO NOT let pain meds wear off. Ask your nurse for an emesis bag and a few days of prescription Zofran for nausea. You don't want to end up sick in the car.

I will say he would have been in worse shape had he traveled after the local injection wore off. Something to think about..

Great news, Jimmi. How exciting for you. From my own experience, the journey just from the hospital home as a passenger in my own car wasn't the easiest but you're staying in a hotel for 3/4 days prior to the journey home so that should be easier on you. Like I told you in a private message, it's important to have XXXL joggies as Mike will leave you inflated so you need to try your best to disguise your hard-on. I think I'd rather be uncomfortable for 2 hours via an aeroplane journey than sit in a car for 8 hours, so I'd choose to fly home if it was me.

Thanks everyone for your input as always.

If I fly back, I still have a 2 hour drive home, so I think that combined with being sat upright in the sky and walking through Glasgow Airport semi erect and likely in pain makes me lean towards the car. I'm lucky I have a decent motor so it will be comfortable and my seats recline fully or I can make a bed in the back seats. Also I can stop as and when we need to.

If I could fly to an airport much closer to me then I would be more inclined to take the plane but that's just not possible.

Finally, I've only actually seen my surgeon once and although we have briefly communicated via email he hasn't measured me, either stretch test or in an erect state, is this fairly normal to not know sizing until I'm unconscious on the operating table?

That's what my surgeon did and it worked out perfectly

Tomas1 - it is not clear. Did your surgeon decide on the size of the implant on the operating table, or did he measure you before the surgery?

for the veterans on the the board: Is either option OK or one should always get measured before hand?
