I have today had a consultation with Michael Fraser in Glasgow, Scotland and he has agreed an implant is the best and only option for me. This is the outcome I wanted and makes a mockery of the other 3 urologists I have seen this year:

He suspects surgery will be early February next year; which gives me time to gain an extra half an inch or so 😂

Between now and then, what should I abs what should I not be doing to give myself the best possible chance of recovery and to Avoid an infection?

Thanks

There is little you can do to avoid an infection other than a week before surgery.  That would be to NOT shave the pubic area or do anything else to cause a skin break.  Also was with Hibiclens https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hibiclens-Antiseptic-Antimicrobial-Skin-Cleanser-57508-8-Ounce/188238547?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101017798&adid=22222222222144462756&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=e&wl1=s&wl2=c&wl3=74423275913777&wl4=pla-4578022868857716&wl5=&wl6=&wl7=&wl10=Walmart&wl11=Online&wl12=188238547_10001037177&wl14=hebiclense&veh=sem&msclkid=a26ad8fdd9db135932f4b962431a02c2

Most of the responsibility for infection is with the surgical team.

I would get as many hours in traction as possible and use a VED in between traction sessions.  Every time you urinate I would do 2 minutes of manual traction.

Good luck, there have been both great as well as very concerning stories come from that surgeon.  PLEASE keep us posted.

Great news, Jimmi. Delighted for you to finally get the outcome you were seeking after many setbacks. For those on the other side of the Atlantic, Jimmi being operated on by Mike Fraser will require a substantial bit of travel (about 1000 miles all in, round trip) so isn't without quite a bit of sacrifice on his part.

How was Mike? How did he come across to you? Did he listen intently to your concerns and history? What I liked immediately about him was that he seemed to listen very well to my journey and was very empathetic. What was your feeling having met him for the first time?

And so your journey to solution begins ... how exciting for you.

Thanks Hawk and Hey Roddy,

To say I'm excited is an understatement! He said the only option was an implant and couldn't believe the other three uro's had discounted it.

I found him to be very personal, and very much on my level, and not like a typical doctor. He answered my questions without hesitation and gave me confidence that he would be the right surgeon for me.

I think it helped that we had communicated via email and i wrote him essays of my Peyronies journey  ;D He said that his heart sank when he saw the photos and had no hesitation in saying that a Titan implant was the right choice for me.

Because of my distance from Glasgow, i can't get it on the NHS so i have to self fund but in relaity its a small price to pay for something that i'm sure will change my life.

One question i didn't ask him, was the cost implications for an early revision - both due to infection or device malfunction. Am I liable for the full secondary procedure costs or will the surgeons own liability insurance cover any associated costs such as this?

Thanks

All surgeons I know charge full price for the procedure during a revision BUT the device itself is free because it has a lifetime warranty.  The cost of the device is significant.

Congratulations on going forward with this decision Jimmy. roddy had an amazing experience with him and he couldn't have had a better outcome. Unfortunately there was another member who doesn't come to the board no more that had a very poor outcome and raised a lot of questions about the doctor.

He doesn't come here no more and he deleted most or all of it's posts, i think in fear of reprisal on having them online. This being said i have my fingers crossed for you and i hope this is another success story that we can follow here on the board. Best of luck!  8)
