Is pain during ESWT normal?

Hey folks. Just thought I would ask this on this board to see if anyone with Shockwave experience or know-how has any feedback.

I am now doing Shockwave Therapy at International Andrology London, for mild ED from trauma and to prevent the development of possible Peyronies (more about this on my intro post).

I have had one session so far, no improvement. It was quite painful during treatment - like getting electric shocks on my penis. The nurse who did the treatment said that the machine is a Storz Duolith SD1, 3000 pulses per session for 6 sessions, and the intensity is 0.5. Does anyone know what this 0.5 means?

And is it normal for treatment to be painful like that?

Since then: torsion, curve at the base (30º sideways), mild ED (difficulty maintaining erection).

Hi Skysun,

I've had eswt for Peyronies.  One session so far, at Shockwave Clinic.  Same machine.
It was painful, but bearable. Rather like being flicked hard with an elastic band - on a very sensitive area!

The 0.5 might refer to 0.5mJ/mm2, but you should verify.  I'm not sure what setting my treatment was on - will ask next time.

Can I ask how much you paid?  I had a look at International Andrology.

Best wishes,

Simon

Hey Simon.

Same feeling here - like being flicked hard with an elastic band. Especially sensitive towards the top of the shaft!

I'm paying 390 pounds per session, for 6 sessions. How about you?

£490 per session, 6 sessions.
That includes all necessary medication (and possibly equipment).

I'm not particularly happy with the service - hard sell, poor communication, and stupidly I paid up front.  Stuck the card machine in front of me after the first session; I think I was still dazed.

How's the service at international Andrology?

I understand your frustration. They asked if I wanted to pay it all in one go or split in two. Still quite a lot of money upfront even when split in two...

The doctor I saw didn't make any big promises about ESWT. He said he would only recommend it in cases of trauma, which is my case. He said there is some evidence to suggest it will help with the healing process, and also be helpful if I am in the early stage of Peyronies (he isn't sure whether I am or not...).

Have you found out about the treatment protocol at your place? I would be interested in knowing more.

Yeah mine was painful. I had this feeling on the neurovescolar bunde like it was kind of electrocuting. An electrical popping thing to me, but maybe is a good sign.

Hi Skysun,

The protocol I'm receiving at Richmond Sockwave Clinic is 3000 pulses each session  (now given in 6 x 500 at different points) of 1.24mJ /mm2. Weekly sessions for 6 weeks.

I'm also using a VED.

Hi Skusun,

I'm also having shockwave therapy at a clinic in Richmond called Mans Matters - I paid £2,950 upfront which is a lot of money but my local Urologist was only interested in plication - after reading up on that I didn't want the possibility of additional scarring and further problems down the line.

I've had 5 sessions so far and my last session is this Saturday (20th Nov)
I don't find it too painful, akin to having a tattoo but maybe my pain threshold is different to yours - when he turns it up high it's like having an elastic band twang but again, I can manage that easily too.

It has seemed to make a slight difference, the curve has gone from the left hand side to an upward curve - I'm also using traction (PMP - given to me by the doctor) and a SOMA correct I purchased myself.

My erections have also got much better - I did have ED before I started the treatment so another bonus there.

I say if you can afford the shockwave therapy, go for it but don't expect a "miracle" cure - it should help but I think the traction and VED helps too.
