Just had first injection
the pain 😩
« on: July 01, 2021, 06:01:05 AM »

I’ve just had my first injection at the hospital, where they teach you to do it.

0.5ml viridal.  Erection wasn’t great, but the pain around the base of the head is really bad.  I think this is the reason why my natural erections are poor, as physiologically I know they are going to hurt.

I did mention the pain to the urologist before I saw the nurse, but he just said that Peyronie’s is a terrible disease, and wouldn’t recommend further surgery at this stage.

I just wish I new what was causing the pain.  Presumably more plaque is forming, right at the base of the head.  This is more than 2 years after my original failed incision and grafting procedure.

I was hoping this appointment was going to give me some hope, but beginning to think at the age of 48 my sex lire is over.

I could live with that if the pain was over too 😢

PorterRobinson - Helpful questions and comments that contribute to the solution are welcome.  If you have any please express them without unnecessary profanity.

Mark,

How old are you.  Your signature line only says "yrs old"

Is your doctor a high-volume Peyronies specialist?
Why would he not recommend surgery if you cannot use your penis with over a 40-degree curve?
Is he afraid you might end up being able to use your penis less?
What was your injection for?  I don't see that you mention this in your post or in your signature.

It sounds like you need a great implant surgeon to fix both your curve and Erectile Dysfunction in one single out-patient surgery.

Hi Hawk

I’m 48.  Implant is the last resort, but have been told it wouldn’t restore any lost length, not would they remove the previous graft or any plaque.  So although I would get an erection, but may still be in Discomfort from plaque.

I’m also a little reluctant with further surgical procedures considering the last 3 I’ve had have failed.

I am so sorry. That is really disheartening. I believe with implant most docotrs do removes some fibrous tissue with the caverectomy? I may be wrong but I do believe with the implant it should take away the pain.

That is completely false.  Surgeons remove NOTHING when doing an implant.  They might make a few little relief incisions and manual remodeling to facilitate straightening.

Hawk - yes, that’s what the surgeon said today.  They may have to make a few incisions but do not normally remove anything.

In that case I’m not sure how the painful erections can be resolved.

I will try the VED again and see if things can be gently encouraged.

Mark,  I assume you are posting to get some input.  The problem is that you did not answer any of my questions other than your age.  Please put that in your signature.  If you need help, just ask, and I will do it for you.  or ask for help, and I will do it for you.

If you don't answer all questions, others can't help.

Hi Hawk - apologies for not answering your questions before.

I am currently under Prof Ralph, who is a high volume Peyronie’s surgeon, but since transferring to the NHS after my private medical insurance ended when I was made redundant from my previous job, I have seen a member of his team, and do not know their history.

Both have previously stated that further surgery, following my failed incision and grafting, could result in me being in a worse situation with regards to lost length, numbness, impotency, pain etc.  So they would only consider it as a last resort.

I tried the injection to try and improve my quality of erections which have been not been full strength for a while and difficult to maintain.  In part I think this is due to pain I experience at the base of the head as blood is pushed up.  A semi hard erection is fine.

I was hoping that the pain would have gone, but the injection caused fairly bad pain in the same area, although the erection still was not strong.  The nurse has advised to increase the dose, and hope that as things stretch the pain will subside.  But I am a little apprehensive to give it another go.

I asked the surgeon about an implant and if any plaque could be removed, as if not, it would be of limited benefit it erections still caused significant discomfort.

I will try some VED, but that itself is uncomfortable since I had a buffer inserted during a partial ligament separation to try and stop my penis retracting excessively and causing discomfort.

The only thing that does seem to have helped over the last 8 months is foreskin stretching to try and reduce the discomfort of the constant rubbing due to lack of hang caused by the retraction.

I guess I am looking for answers to will then pain at base of head go eventually, is it further plaque forming 4 years or more after the original episode, should I refrain from injections until I am pain free, will an implant help with pain as well as erections and curve

Many other members of this forum and I developed Peyronies Disease from penile injections for Erectile Dysfunction.

All I can advise is:
1. Take very objective measurements of Bone-pressed, Stretched Flaccid Length (BPSFL) (write it down)
2. Take girth measurement when erect (use a VED if necessary and write it down)
3. Document deformity with photos and tracing if necessary
4. Apply pressure to the injection site for 5 minutes
5. Do NOT take aspirin or other blood thinners
6. Recheck your measurements at least monthly

Good luck

Thanks Hawk.  Only issue with one of your point is I take riveroxoban for a DVT I had back in 1994.  I believe this has been a contributing factor to my my Peyronie’s for one reason or another.

I’ve not tried the injection again yet.  Slightly nervous about the whole thing.

why do you believe that some med you took 30 years ago was responsible for their peyronies when its a disease quite common for aging men with uo to 10% incidence? I got it at 23 and i have never taken any prescription drugs and have no risk factors. crap just happens sometimes. i dont think there would be a biological mechnaism for a blood drug to cause peyronies decades down the road

10% of the population does not remotely qualify as "quite common". This is not a common disease, which is probably why it is still not well understood and not well researched in the medical community.

Actually, 10%, if true, does qualify as quite common.   There are very few diseases that 10% of the population get.  Heart disease and cancer are the only two, and the only reason cancer qualifies is because they lump over 200 cancer variants together as a single disease.

10% of the population does not remotely qualify as "quite common". This is not a common disease, which is probably why it is still not well understood and not well researched in the medical community.

To explain further, I wasn’t on medication for around 10 years until I had a change of specialist who decided it best to be cautious as I wouldn’t be able to cope with a second incident.

I was originally on warfarin before moving to riveroxoban several years later.  After this I had an episode of blood in my urine.  This was investigate with a camera up the little fella, which was extremely painful and took a while to recover.  It felt like the camera was forced in quickly at an angle, and it is this I think led to Peyronie’s, as I started to feel plaque growth, and notice a slight bend, within a couple of months.

So I do not think the riveroxoban caused the Peyronie’s directly, but if I wasn’t on the medication, which it was decided to be the likely cause of blood (not visible) in my urine, then I may not have developed the disease.

So then, are you saying you think it was from rough handling and trauma to the penis and not the medication after all??
