Titan Implant MRI Conditional
« on: February 14, 2021, 05:05:56 PM »

I having been having some health issues that require an MRI.
The radiologist called me asking for manufacturer of implant.
Needless to say, once I called coloplast and they gave me the following, the radiologist said that she would have to find another MRI that wouldn't cause damage to the implant.

Can someone post this in the important information about implants.

See attached.

Stepone, I split your post into its own topic.

Did anyone explain what MRI conditional means?

That is the first I have heard that.  I had a PET scan, which is, of course, an entirely different technology with no issues.

Hawk,

For whatever reasons, I have not been receiving notifications.

I have attached a new car that Coloplast sent me.

You can call and obtain one, I received mine in about a week.

The radiologist was thankful that I had the card and adjusted the MRI as needed. BUT, not all machines can be adjusted, so it is important to notify the radiology department prior to an MRI. I had to go to a different hospital that had a new SIEMENS machine.

Thank you for letting everyone know about this. Definitely not many people that have implants will go for MRI's, but it can definitely happen and it's good to be aware.

Makes me wonder what kind of documentation you get when you have your device installed. I know you have the card stating you got an implant installed but I have no knowledge about this one.

I'll add it to the list of erectile dysfunction links.

I think a lot of people who have implants will get MRI's.  If it is your knee it probably does not matter though

Stepone,  Did you have to furnish your serial number etc or just say I have a Titan, give me a card?

They did not need the serial number.
Yes, as we age, or break a bone, pull a muscle, etc., MRI’s will be involved.
It’s important to understand that regardless of where the MRI is focused, the radiologist told me,  you don’t want to use MRI equipment that could damage the implant.

I need to have an MRI on my left knee.
Is there a place in the Carolinas that have experience with MRIs and implants that you recommend?
It's just embarrassing sometimes talking to people and explaining you have an implant. The person you call to schedule appt will have no clue.

I may give knee 2 more weeks to see if there is any improvement. It's been a month now with no relief. Someone told me I would not be able to go upstairs if my meniscus was tore. I can do steps, but with some pain.

Stepone, did you have any problems after the MRI?

Unfortunately, we do not know or keep a list of who has what expertise with MRI or CT scans and implants. However, I am fairly confident that any MRI center with multiple MRI units can work around this issue.  I am also confident that Coloplast and Boston Scientific use materials that can survive 21st center imaging.

It is interesting how people see things differently.  I am happy to tell medical personnel I have a three-piece inflatable penile implant.  I think it is a cool thing, and a person in the medical field will either be very interested and ask a question or two, or they will act like it is a non-event.  I like to project that they can feel free to ask questions if they like.  I would start with, "I bet I have a situation you don't run into every day and maybe never."

Good point.
I was told to go to another location for an MRI as the location that I was in, did not have equipment that could be adjusted to the requirements needed.
But the next location was totally good with it.
I always tell medical professionals about both implants I have. When I had a heart catheterization last year, I told them, but they didn’t read it.
I am naked face up, legs spread, with clear plastic on my torso. A male nurse is shaving my groin.
I feel him moving and holding my penis. It was getting a little exciting, lol
The female nurse came up to my ear and said my Mr. Smith, did you take any Viagra within the last 24 hours, because if you did, we can inject a drug to make your penis go down?
I said no, I did not take Viagra, but if they would have read my chart, they would have seen I have an implant. And no, don’t you go anywhere near my penis with a needle AND tell the nurse if he would just push it so it’s lying on top of my stomach, it won’t get in his way, otherwise if he continues to hold onto it, yes it’s going to get more excited.
She started laughing and when she told him and everyone else heard it, suddenly the entire room including the doctor was giggling. The procedure went ok.

Stepone,
I just wanted to add the AMS LGX 700 is conditional as well, with CT. The ordering urologist gave us a paper to give radiology to set the machine parameters.
