Does anyone take finasteride for hair loss while taking Peyronies. My dermatologist recommended it for hair shedding but the side effects, while rare, seem like a not good pairing for peyronies? Any comments? thanks
20y old. Pentox, healthy anti-oxidant diet. Stable, but no progress either.

Probably not a good idea for optimal results. DHT is a hormone that helps promote healing in the penis. Personally i was on finasteride when i got Peyronie's. Was causing some ED and probably deteriorated my penis enough to make it susceptible to Peyronie's.

You will be doing a lot of traction and VED and potentially causing further micro-tears to your penis. So you'll probably want to stay off it at least until the acute phase is over.

I've been off it since i got Peyronie's but certainly consider going back to it. Just want to make sure i can get my penis as back to normal as i can before reducing my DHT levels again.

There are a lot of horror histories about Finasteride, so I recommend you to avoid it. There are entire forums dedicated to find solutions for PFS (Post Finasteride Syndrome) and share the histories.

I'm lucky I'm very hairy lol, but even if I were bald I'd not use it. Work, make money, and make a hair transplant. This option is much better.

Even if Finasteride doesn't cause any permanent side effects, it will drop your libido. This is enough to prejudice your Peyronie's treatment. You need more erections and blood flow in your penis, and less libido = less blood flow to the penis.

Penis developed curvature, lots of plaque, loss of size and axial rigidity. Severe peyronie.

Personally, i believe that PFS is a hormonal imbalance that can be mostly fixed. At first i thought i was suffering from it and distracted me from the fact that i had actually fractured my penis.

With a hair transplant you're still advised to take finasteride. Plus keeping your natural hair will probably look better. Totally agree about bloodflow though, but you *might* be able to offset it with Cialis and VED.

The two most important things for me were my penis and my hair - ended up messing up both :p
Honestly though, if i can elongate my penis to get a larger implant i'm 100% going back to finasteride. I'll at least have hair and a long bionic penis.

Just my personal thoughts.

This is what I have been wondering about for almost two years now. Both my penis and hair conditions are giving me so much depression I just want one of them to end. How much risk am I really taking when starting finasteride?

I asked three doctors and they all advised me against taking it. I'm so confused. After all I think 5alpha reductase is indeed fundamental for penis health. I'm at the brink of saying fk it and start taking it without regrets. I finally want to start doing something for my problems. Can't believe I'm stuck with balding and Peyronie's at the age of 23

I asked the world famous Dr. Eid - who knows i have peyronies and ED - if i could start taking finasteride again or if it was too dangerous. He said i can go ahead and start taking it. He did not seem worried or concerned about it. He even prescribed me penile injections for erections.

I still haven't though, but certainly heavily considering it.

Plus, finasteride has a very high safety record and Low side effect profile. (i asked doctors about PFS and they laughed and said there was no such thing) I wish I had taken it because I probably would have had not needed a second round of hair transplants.

Torsten, maybe you should tell your doctors to pull out the drug datasheet and read the side-effects:
inability to have or maintain an erection
decreased sexual desire
problems with ejaculation (including decreased volume of ejaculate)
pain in the testicles
depression

Maybe they could even stop to consider that it is used during "gender transition" could obviously affect male sexual function.  Or maybe just the wide general knowledge that anything that affects erection can contribute to Peyronies Disease.

Do not dispense false data here under the pretense that some "unnamed doctor told you".

We seriously need a strong consensus on this topic. No one here who started finasteride after being diagnosed with Peyronie's?

I think the best way is to just grow some balls and let your hair go if it wants to go. Man up and stop crying about it. Finasteride is not something that you want to take as a man and I think this "Torsten" guy knows it damn well and that's why he wants you to take it. Just my 2 cents.

at what age did you go bald olive?
single, mid 20
diagnosed early 2020
indentation 20 degree bent to left, recurrence with new indentation below glans
tried vacuum device with no success

Mr man

I'v been taking finisteride for about 4 months. Has made no difference to peyronie's as far as I can tell.

After a little research. I round out Finisteride is a enzyme blocker. It stops testosterone from converting to DHT. DHT is a stronger male hormone then testosterone. So there is a reduction in male hormones overall.

Am considering stopping Finisteride now, but it's done  wonders for my hair.i
Latest routine. Started l-lysine 3mg daily, l-proline 5mg daily. Increased vit c intake. Accompanied with almost daily vacuum therapy. Pumping to 100% Exercise caution! Made good progress. L arginine supplements and prescribed potaba are helping.

I got peyronies right around the same time I started using a topical Finasteride with minoxidil. I don't know which one came first but they were both within the same 2 weeks of each other. To be aafe I'm going to stop using the topical formula because I'd rather be bald with a working penis than have hair and have a crooked penis. Topical Finasteride still enters the blood stream but at a much much lower level than the pills.

Interesting. Just came across this thread and yes I was on Finasteride for 2 years but quit because it wasn't working. I developed Peyronies Disease in the same time frame, maybe a few months after I quit taking it.
Age 55, Married
Peyronies Disease manifested approx. Jun 2020.
Hourglass indentation at base of penis running underneath w/ downward and leftward slope when semi-erect.
Weak erections
Diagnosed with Peyronies Disease on May 28, 2021

inability to have or maintain an erection
decreased sexual desire
problems with ejaculation (including decreased volume of ejaculate)
pain in the testicles
depression

I developed all of these in the two years while taking finasteride. It stopped my hair loss but did not seem to help with growing any of the lost hair back. Peyronies Disease developed a few months after I stopped taking finasteride.

Anything that blocks DHT conversion is bad for your body! Men need DHT and so does your penis.
