Chapter 3, implant
« on: June 17, 2020, 02:32:27 PM »

Hey guys, I am on hopefully my final journey to fix this condition.....I am getting an implant.  I will document this journey here, and you are welcome to follow my other threads documenting how I ended up here.  I have a Xiaflex and surgery thread (hence the chapters).  Looks like I’ll soon join the bionic club

Good luck TDix. As always, please keep us posted on your experience.

Have you decided on a surgeon yet? If so, who is it?

Prayers are coming your way.
Stay in touch.
Sounds like you have a great surgeon.
Take before and after pictures if you are comfortable with doing so.

I will.  I did the same with my Xiaflex and excision experiences but lost them on an old phone.

Surgery was denied by insurance.  I’m so pissed.  Why would they cover excision and grafting but not an implant!  I’m so depressed.  Waiting to see what Dr Yafi says

I am sure the doctor can rewrite it for an appeal. That is odd. Maybe they simply coded it wrong.
Good luck with it.

My insurance is just stupid.  They pulled this with my last surgery.  They say they cover the dr but not the hospital.  Hoping Dr Yafi can intervene.  I think he did last time as they said the same thing but covered me

It’s so important to not take no fir an answer and to enlist medical support for your appeal.

Filing an appeal with insurance company.  How can you cover a doctor but not where he works!

I had the same problem, doc was covered but not the hospital where he did the surgery.  After appeal, they covered it.

Insurance officially declined my appeal, as they said there are other “covered” doctors in the plan that deal with Erectile Dysfunction.  I’m devastated yet again as they cover a f’n specialist but not where he works.  I almost want to tell them not to cover him as you give guys like me false hope.  Yeah we will let you see a specialist that says you need this procedure but we don’t cover the hospital he performs it in!  Ridiculous!

Trying to figure out next steps.  Cancelled my surgery and am trying to stay positive.  Was told by Dr Yafi’s office that the procedure was going to be $97k but Dr Yafi got it down to $27k.  Still, I don’t have $27k lying around with both children in college.

I am so sorry!!!!
Anyway you can find another excellent surgeon that your plan will cover. I know you have a relationship with this guy and despite what some people will say, there are some excellent surgeons in the U.S.
You need the implant, don’t give up.

?????????
$97,000 THAT IS INSANE!    Dr. Eid or Dr Kramer charge nowhere close to that.  Regardless, you need the insurance to pay regardless of the cost.

I have a consult with a Dr Michael Hyman on July 31st.  I am going to grill this guy.  I know more than most about the specialists and procedure thanks to this website.  I am also going to follow up with insurance if things progress to say if I have ANY complications I will hold them responsible

I think that is great about Dr. Yafi.
What ever turns out, I would still see Dr. Hyman, just in case.
I know you will share your complete struggle with Dr. Hyman.
When I have an issue with “medical Issues”, I always say, look “I am just a patient, I know I am not a doctor”, so please help me figure this out as I know your goal is to help me”.
It usually calls them to take a deep breath and truly try to help.
Good luck my friend and stay in touch.
I will include you in my prayers this evening.

They can do a pre cert as well as pre payment authorization so you know they not only cover it but will pay for it.

Congratulations!
I bet when your doctor heard you were going to go someplace else, I bet that’s when he decided to do the appeal.
After all, that is a big amount of money that comes into his hospital, etc.
congratulations.
I will pray for you.

I never told him I was going anywhere else.  He just had my back.  My last surgery was more invasive and more expensive and they covered it.  Turns out with my insurance you have to talk to the right people, and move it up the chain until you get one

Yeah it’s been a crazy 3 Years.  Back in 2017, I’d never heard of peyronie’s, Xiaflex, excision surgery, implants....or even for that manner hematomas, etc..never in my wildest dreams would I have thought 3 years later I’d be scheduled for a prosthesis at 46.  This disease is no joke, but I have done what I needed to do.  I haven’t given up, even when in my darkest days of despair, depression, drinking like a fish.  The mental scars are still there, but I just keep on trucking

having peyronies at 22 and my doctor said there is a high probability it will just reoccur over the years and this absolutely devastates me and makes me depressed. its like being diagnosed with cancer and knowing it will probably reoccur. it obliterates your sex life and even sexuality as a whole, you can't have sex as you want, you can have sex as your peyronies allows it. im 22 and in college for [email protected] sake. society is so sexualized, there is no escaping that and even worse its actually fun so why would you want to be absent from that. you dont want that. ill probably have to be on anti depressants for the rest of my life too. I can't even imagine how to cope with this long term. im sure ill need that prosthesis much earlier than 46. like what, F^@$!ng 30? can't even pack into words how humiliating this is. and that in addition to life long depression that I have suffered since I was 15/16.

can't even say its a roller coaster because quite literally my life has been heading downwards ever since I hit puberty. and I dont even want to imagine how low it can get. I have so many plans, I have so much potential but over the last decade almost, 98% of it has gone to waste. and I just can't snap out of it. when I get up in the morning, I can't get up. sure I have some good moments but even in those I get reminded automatically in what a shti body I live in and instantly I become depressed again. and doctors can't even take more than 10 minutes time for me so I can ask my questions. I feel isolated, not taken seriously but honestly even if he did tell me how it'll progress id get too depressed to even listen.

Keep going man, do what you need to do.  If my 22 yr old son had this, I’d tell him the same.  Yes, this really is a gut punch to ones sex life.  As dark an area your mind wanders to, just don’t give up.  I’m also on antidepressants, and I still have those horrible depressing days.  Just know they don’t last.  Educate yourself, find the best doctor you can that LISTENS to you and has your back.  If they don’t, drop em and find another one.  As always, I post my experience here not to depress anyone, but to show you can fix this.  I will never be what I was 20 years ago, even 3 years ago.  I just have to accept that and make the best of what I have NOW.  I am here to help and support anyone

Peter,

Your post is much more appropriate on your own topic or possibly on some other topic but it does not relate to TDix's plans for an implant or to the struggle to get insurance coverage.  Please don't hijack topics to make them about you and your situation EXCEPT to the degree that it is directly on the topic the owner of the topic is posting about.

keep going? im not going at all. I can't even get out of my bed anymore. my life is complete garbage. im a bordeline college dropout, no job, no income, no good education, I have been depressed for almost a decade now, I have pretty serious body dysmorphia which is why peyronies to me is honestly worse than cancer. its the worst diagnosis I can think off, hits at the very core of what I have already been depressed and obsessed about for all my life. like a movie, it honestly feels staged to me and unreal. I dont even know what I want, I have no drive and to be honest I dont really want anything anymore. I just want this to end

finding a doctor that listens to you regarding peyronies in Germany is basically impossible. I have seen 4 so far and while they gave me prescriptions etc, none could make me less terrified. and maybe thats just them being real. when they say this can get worse and come back anytime in your life, they dont say this to make me depressed, they say this because it is the truth. and thats the most insanely depressing thing of all. I know the only option is acceptance but that doesn't make life good or enjoyable. and it doesn't make the suicidiality go away at all. quite the opposite actually. im more suicidal than ever before and I have had my bad days/weeks/months over the last 5 years where I barely could take it.

I just want someone that cares about this and me and is willing to try treat it as aggressively as possible

Peter,

Your post is much more appropriate on your own topic or possibly on some other topic but it does not relate to TDix's plans for an implant or to the struggle to get insurance coverage.  Please don't hijack topics to make them about you and your situation EXCEPT to the degree that it is directly on the topic the owner of the topic is posting about.

im sorry. I was just getting carried away in the conversation while replying.

Official approval from insurance.  Had some bacteria in my urine sample so I am on Cipro until my surgery on Tuesday.
