How do I tell my family (Mother and sisters)?

I have been thinking of the best way to open up about my peyronie's disease to my family members or at least one of them. I am a college student with a low paying job but somehow I've been managing to take care of the expenses that come with dealing with this disease. Also trying my best to get a new job but that might take a while.

Lately, however, the disease has taken a toll on my expenses. And now I'm running low on funds which I would have used to buy more supplements and drugs. The thing is that I feel so ashamed opening up about this disease to my family (mom and sisters).

Unfortunately, my father is deceased and I have no older male figure that I would have been more comfortable opening up to. My mom and older sisters are kinda like my providers. I once gathered the courage to tell one of my sisters about it some time ago, but due to the embarrassment I felt thereafter, I lied to her that I had improved.

No matter how awkward I know things could get, I know I need to say something fast because time is running out and my peyronies seems to be getting worse. How do I go about opening up about my condition to any of my sisters or mother?

Thanks.

Hello Ehiz, I hope you don't mind me asking, have you always had this curve or is it something new?  Any other symptoms you're having?

Giving details about the disease or your penis is mostly unnecessary.
"Male health issue" or saying "I have to see the urologist for an issue" should be enough.
Declaring that you're a bit ashamed about it often helps not being ashamed and makes people understand why you might've stayed silent or lied ;)
Lot's of people see improvement with simple cheap measures. In any case.. stay healthy in your mind and body.

Hi TonySa,

I've not always had the curve. My penis used to be straight and healthy until I discovered porn at age 14 and started masturbating until I probably injured it. It then developed a curve but was not much of an issue until two years ago when my curve started increasing and I started feeling pain (acute phase I guess). Unfortunately, I've not yet seen a urologist because doctors in my country, Nigeria, are not worth the trouble honestly.

But I'm certain it is peyronie's because of the symptoms. I figure I may have to see one though to get a diagnostics and understand the state of my condition. I've also lost about 2 inches as I used to be about 7 inches. But I've not noticed any loss in girth yet. Just more curving and hard flaccid. My flaccid length penis leans to the left now and shrinks a lot. But for the past few days it has been hanging quite good. I've noticed it becomes really hard flaccid when I'm working out and I wonder why. I'm currently taking coq10. I'm running out of acetyl l carnitine because it is really hard to find in my country. Also planning to start taking cialis this new week. I'm 22 so I'm guessing I'm young enough to see positive results?

Thanks.

Hi Melting,

Yeah I get what you mean. However, most folks in my country would always want to understand what they are spending money on before they bring out money. I guess it is a culture thing or something ;D. I can picture my mom wanting to go into details and asking me all the questions that would probably make me feel uncomfortable haha.

It doesn't hurt to try your method though and see if it works. Thanks.

No it's normal everywhere ;)
Most moms want their sons to reproduce, so it's an important topic. Talking about something you feel ashamed about it's almost always not shameful after you talked about it ;) Interesting how that works, huh?
What I noticed talking to not affected people about it, is that details confuse most people though.

GL! Always keep your head up!

Thanks Melting for your advice. You've made the process kinda easier for me. Mind if I send you a PM?

First and foremost, I think deep down you blame yourself for what's happened to you. STOP IT!!!  This is not your fault. Next, the way you tell them will matter.  Concentrate on the medical side of it and try very hard NOT to to sexualize it.  For example it's a penis, not a dick. Say you are losing significant size, not 3".  Finally, using bullet points, write down what you want to say.  If you don't, your nerves may get you to forget important parts.  Just think about they way they would have to explain breast cancer to you.  Good luck to you.  Please let us, your understanding friends, know how you made out when you tell them. :)
