Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I am planning on getting surgery to correct congenital penile curvature within the next few months. I've finally had enough.

My (circumcised) penis bends to the left about 25 degrees, and downward 10-15 degrees. I was diagnosed with CPC (no plaque) at UCSF by Dr. Tom Lue last month.

We discussed surgery and he told me that he actually doesn't perform it himself, but his colleague James Smith does. I met with James Smith the next week to get more information. They gave me Cialis to help with the psychological issues I have regarding my deformity and told me to come back if I still wanted surgery. They want to do permanent suture plication and since I curve down, they'd have to dissect my neurovascular bundle.

This is all quite terrifying, but I have to do something. I also reached out to Dr. Joel Gelman yesterday and I was incredibly surprised that he personally called me within minutes of emailing his office (late on a Friday night). We spoke on the phone for 30 minutes.

His method does not use permanent sutures (they dissolve over time) and he excises portions of the tunica albugnea in order to shorten the longer side (sides in my case). He went in depth about why he prefers this method, although it is a more complex procedure than just plicating.

Basically, he explained that in normal plication, you are basically pinching the tunica albuginea in various spots whereas his method would remove the longer tissue.

I'm very concerned about the palpability of the suture knots (nodules) as well as having permanent sutures in my dick until I die. That's why I reached out to him.

On the other hand, Tom Lue is one of the top surgeons in the world for these conditions so I am really torn on whether to go with permanent or dissolvable...But he wouldn't be the surgeon.. I just don't know

If anyone has any feedback on the following, I'd be so thankful:
  • Tom Lue's surgeon (James Smith) vs. Joel Gelman
  • Permanent sutures vs. excision of TA and dissolvable sutures

Dr Lue is great, and I’m sure he’s selected top notch surgeons that he’s training.  I would ask are they in residency and how many surgeries such as this that he has done.  I’d think perm sutures fail less, but many find them distracting.  Again, good to ask and get a feel then go with your preference.
PxD 2 yrs 9/16.  Failed all treatment. 9/11/18: excision, grafting & implant Dr Karpman MtnView Ca, AMS CX 18cm + 3-1cm RTEs.
Pump failed.  2/11/20 Dr Karpman installed Titan 22cm +1cm RTE.

I had redo surgery one year ago with dr Gelman after failed surgery in my country. I have said a lot positive things about dr Gelman.

I am happy that you talked to him. He is the best and he has the best success ratio in the world. I have done extensive research in the past and I wouldnt go the surgery with any other doctor.

When I saw dr Gelman for the first time I thought immedialetely: that is the man - I dont want to talk with any other doctor. One day he said: I love doing surgeries, that is what I do everyday. Dr Gelman is very passionate surgeon and top artist in this field.

So your decision should be quite simple. You will be extremely happy with the result. If you will tell dr Gelman about young man from Poland and peyroniesforum, he will know  :)

And dont worry about the surgery. It is a piece of cake and you will not suffer any pain and other issues.

Ps. I have read about some man who was operated by dr Lue and pernament sutures was so uncomfortable for him that dr Lue deleted them in second surgery. I dont know if it has sense to have pernament sutures when there is dr Gelman.
