Hi, I'm 26 and have some pretty severe scarring. Cialis and viagra aren't working well. I've been told that my case may call for a penile implant. But I've gotten different messages as to wether I'm too young.
A urologist at Wake Forest Medical School says I'm not but a urologist in my home state says that I am. I'm wondering if anyone else here has had an implant at my age and what you guys think about this. I understand it's a big decision and there's no going back so that's why I'm asking.

Twisted,  Welcome to the forum.  In answer to your question, the short answer is that you are definitely not too young for an implant.  Dr. Eid who has probably done more implants than anyone in North America has done implant surgery on men much younger than you.

The long answer is a bit more subjective or nuanced.

An Implant is a mechanical device that has a given life expectancy like a phone or a flush valve in the back of a toilet tank.  A good mobile phone usually lasts for 8-10 years but I am sure a few malfunction in 6 months.  The problem is that if an implant malfunctions it likely means out-patient surgery to fix it.  The actual device has a life-time warranty but the surgery does not.  Currently, 4 implants are about the estimated limit.  Some men have had implants for 20 years.  If you got that out of all of them (very unlikely) that would take you 106 years old.  If you only got 2 years out of each of them (very Unlikely), you might hit the wall at 34 years old.

Let's pretend that you would average 7 years with your implants so you would get 28 years of unstoppable erections on demand.  The question is; would you prefer those erections from  26 to 54 or from 50 to 78?  Or you could go 26 to 40years old, take a break for ten years and go 50 to 64 years old.  If you cannot have mutually satisfying intercourse now then you have to ask, "when would I rather be without an erection.  Keep in mind there might be brand new solutions in 20 or 30 years.

Here is a link to the implant board DIRECTORY.  You will find links to all the journals of those that had implants.  You will learn a lot from all of the journals but Hereiam was 28 yrs old when he got his implant and Xhonart was 30 years old when he got his.  Both have moved on and are not on the forum much since they are busy enjoying their newfound ability

Hello Krishu,  welcome to the forum.  What knowledge do you have about implants or Peyronies Disease or ED, and what brings you to the support forum?

Twisted- Obviously a tough call.  While I am 51 and got my implant at 50 so completely different situation I think I would go ahead and get one even at your age.  This assumes that intercourse is not possible or satisfactory for you now.  Hawk's reasoning is very sound.  The only thing I would add is whether or not there might be significant advances in medicine, implants, etc.  I hope that devices will get better and last longer in the future.  Big guesstimate on this, but if somehow average life of implant doubled then one would most likely get one sooner.  Perhaps a call to Coloplast or other manufacturer to ask what next gen devices look like?  Best of luck!

How much shortening can I expect from the surgery? Can size really be regained with an implant?
