Hey guys, I know a lot of members have jumped straight to implants, mainly due to nothing else providing a solution.  I am a living example of a successful surgery, having had excision and grafting, and went from a 50 degree bend to pretty much straight.  Still healing since I'm only 5 months post op, but I want to give hope to those out there scared of surgery, that it can fix your curve......but you need to find a specialist that knows what they are doing.  I may eat crow a year or so down the road if I end up needing an implant, but right now I don't think I will.  Not knocking implants at all, just want some guys out there to know that when you find the right surgeon you CAN correct your condition with surgery.  I am open to answering any questions, and while I never push surgery on anyone, I am happy that I did it.  Yes there are many who are not, especially MarkDS, who I empathize with greatly, but there is success out there

Hey, I'm 33, been living with Peyronie's for 8 years. Suffered a fracture 5 years ago, to make matters worse. It's been stable for the last few years with an upward curve ~70 degrees. Intercourse with my wife is difficult, limited, and mostly uncomfortable (more so for her) but possible. Every few years I get the courage to try and do something about it again. I've tried traction, vacuuming, Vitamin E, and I started Xiaflex with Dr. Lue but stopped the shots for a few reasons in 2017. Just went to Dr. Engel in D.C. and now I'm leaning towards the incision and grafting surgery. I was actually excited about the surgery until I read some of the disappointing stories on this site. I wonder how many people are satisfied with the procedure and move on with their lives, forgetting to post their positive results that might help people on this site. Anyways, I'm really interested in this surgery but now I'm worried about the urologist, Dr. Engel. He's been around for awhile, told me he's done this surgery for a long time, but he's known for his prostate speciality so I'm hesitant. Sorry for the long post, but hoping you might have time to share your thoughts with me. Thank you.

I had incision and grafting, and may be one of the examples that is adding to your anxiety.  All I would say is go to the best surgeon you can.  I went to a highly thought of surgeon, but I think he probably was more experienced with the Nesbit procedure.

The top surgeon was not covered by the insurance so I went with the surgeon I did, which I feel was a big mistake.  I have had to pay nearly £2k for additional surgery by the top surgeon, just to try and make me feel comfortable.

I still have a 45 degree curve and substantial loss of length due to the graft contracting.  My only option to put this right is probably an implant.

49 yrs old, Married
Peyronie's started 2016
Upward curve of 100 degrees
Incision/grafting surgery in 6/2019.  Resulted in loss of length of around 1.5 inches, residual curve of over 40 degrees, some ED
12/2019 had failed skin anchoring procedure

MarkDS, thank you for the reply. Any suggestions for finding a top urologist? I'm near San Francisco and previously saw Dr. Lue, a renown doctor but he only treats with Xiaflex.

TDix, sorry for slow reply. Hoping I didn't lose you. I'm looking into seeing Dr. Yafi. I'm about an 8 hour drive north of though, but I've only heard good things about him. Any changes with your progress since surgery? How many appointments did you have before the surgery? Follow-up appointments? Just wondering how much back and forth will be involved. Anything else I should know about Yafi? Did you experience shortening, ed, sensation loss -- any of the scary stuff? Appreciate your response.

I had an initial appointment, then a scheduled ultrasound.  After that surgery was the agreed course and was scheduled a few months later, as I had to wait at least six months since my fracture from Xiaflex.  His appointments don't really last too long, so I would look into an initial appointment immediately followed by an ultrasound if warranted.  I'm sure he would accommodate you seeing how far away you live. I have regained all my length, and actually have increased girth, as my graft was not put on tightly to avoid any constriction or narrowing.  I had a good five months of numbness following surgery, and my length returned after about three months once the swelling went away.  I am still on Cialis to continue to strengthen my erections, but I can have sex, have a straight penis back to my original length, and am happy I went the route I did with Dr Yafi.  Any other questions you have feel free to ask

I also had a follow up a month after surgery, another at the 4 month mark, and a final one 9 months later.  I am now fully released barring anything I'm concerned about.  My last visit he basically said the surgery was a success, everything looked good and healthy, and he was available for anything I might need.  I'm currently looking to see if any pics were taken of my surgery, as I didn't think of it prior, and have been talking with others who have inquired about the doctor.  I actually got him to recommend a colleague for someone in Montreal, and am waiting to see how that member fares

Thanks for the update TDix. Great news about your continued good result. I hope to be able to say the same by the end of this year.
