22 years old suffering with Peyronie’s
« on: December 12, 2018, 04:50:19 AM »

I have been suffering with Peyronie’s for around 5 years and I have finally booked an appointment to see a urologist this month with the NHS. I’m concerned that it is probably going to a waste of time as the NHS will not do much other than offer surgery, which I’m against.

Does anyone know what the NHS can offer?
Will it be a waste of time?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Im in a similar situation. Please could you update with what your GP offers. Mine also said initially that he can only offer surgery through the urologist. Nevertheless, I see posts by others saying they received prescriptions / imaging / VED ... through their GP. Therefore, Im going to speak to my GP again and see what happens

Jim,

You should start here and read this through a couple times. Peyronies Survival Guide - Information for New Members - Peyronies Society Forums

It will help prepare you for your doctor visit and give a few things to consider right now.  Go to the doctor with a list of questions and make notes.

I also recommend you fill out the signature line right under your posts.  It will make a huge difference in getting responses on the forum.

I have an appointment with a urologist at Goring Hall on the January 9th

I will keep you posted. I’m hoping he will be able to offer something other than surgery...

Make your appointment count.  Do not leave and wish you would have covered something.  You should be starting a list of questions and go with some studies on Pentox from the other link I gave you.  Also go with a smooth way to present these studies rehersed.  Some doctors feel threatened, bored, or insulted when patients bring info off the internet.  It is understandable to a degree.  Sometimes it is best to say something like " I was reading a study about some really positive results with Pentox.  Would you look at this and tell me what you think, I would like to at least try it.  I have little to lose."

You decide, just go prepared and good luck.  We are anxious to hear back.

So the appointment went well. I’m pleased I went.
I met with a Barnaby Chappell who is a Urologist at Goring Hall, and I found him to be very sympathetic and reassuring. As my curvature is only mild compared to some, he understood the psychological effects of Peyronie’s. He could not find any significant plaque, except a small nodule (which I found myself) but confirmed that it had not calcified. He advised against surgery and has referred me to a Dr Ralph at UCL.

He said Dr Ralph, will be better positioned to help as he mainly specialises in treating Peyronie’s.

I’m very pleased with this, as I’m aware that Dr Ralph is highly regarding in this field.

Hopefully he will suggest Xiaflex...

Feel free to ask any questions.
