I tried to PM this to a mod but (like usual) all of their inboxes are ful.l.

why are my post and many others in the improvements board locked?

Sorry but this board has too many arbitrary rules. Please unlock all these threads, the improvement board is going to be one of the first places people look and there is no point in stifling discussion here because some mod decided we shouldn't 12 years ago.

I have updates to share and now apparently i have to make a new thread to do it? stupid.

Wakenbake,

You seem a little dissatisfied with the level of performance of our volunteer help.  Would you care to pitch in and lend a hand on a daily basis/  If so please contact me?

I am sorry you could not contact a mod.  I know the in boxes of Me. James, Lwillis, Pfact are not full.  If someone does have a full inbox let me know who and I will address it.

I suspect you know from reading the rules why the topics are locked.  These rules are anything but arbitrary. They are based on carefully discussed and thought through decisions and over a decade of experience running forums. You are correct that many people will go straight to the Improvement board.  That powerfully makes the point as to why new members should be able to immediately read about accounts of improvement and not have to scroll through a stream of post after post by men that had no improvement talking with each other about every topic under the sun.  Some topics went on for page after page.  Most such posts were deleted as the rules and posted notice indicated.

It is easy for you to make a new topic and simply put a line at the start of the post that says "Please merge this with my other topic".  If you want to discuss this further.  Feel free to post in the "Reporting Forum Problems, Suggestions, and Forum News"

Thanks
Hawk

I agree with wakenbake, I think the improvement boards should be unlocked. At least, you can allow people to add updates to their original post.
Please go to PROFILE then FORUM PROFILE to replace this signature line text with your profile info such as
age, date of onset, symptoms, treatments tried,
relationship status, etc
** You will waste less time and get better answers **

Hawk

If you read my post below you will see that people can easily add updates because I will merge their new topic and it appears in their old topic exactly like they posted to the old topic.

How would you propose we stop pages of discussion about traction, hand warmers, urologists that pissed someone off jelging and every other crosstalk burying the author's original account in of improvement.in 5 pages of posts?

This is not the place to discuss traction, VED, preferred brands and other peoples suggestion on what they think you should do to get more improvement.  It is one of the extremely few boards that is purely for one thing.  Accounts of improvements period.

PS: Mith76: We asked you to please fill in your signature line in your profile

I will say it softly:
Your sentence don't have any connection to the reality and it just smears the Administrators/Moderators.
My inbox is always empty as I delete every PM after answering it. Even my inbox will be not full even with 1000 PM's
This kind of generalizations has no place on this forum!!!

Why would you be so rude as to call out the VOLUNTEER Administration of this terrific site,  That certainly creates the motivation to do NOTHING for you.  The rest of us love this board, if you don't, kindly have the intestinal fortitude to PRIVATE MESSAGE your favourite Administrator so the rest of us aren't subjected to your unkind, unresearched, RUDE rant.

I think being a moderator is a thankless job.

That being said there are a lot of rules one must learn and follow to prevent getting a scolding. It's counter productive. Possibly a reason people go away, so to speak.just saying.

While this original post is quite old I can speak personally that being a moderator for this forum is anything but thankless. There are members that do not under stand why we have the rules that we do but the fact is they are there for good reason and they are what has helped this forum be at the top for so long.

Each moderator here is a volunteer using their own time to keep this forum in order keep it running and make sure that topics and members are monitored. We allow free soeach without allowing members to bash one another. Our rules keep these things in order.

If you want change ask us we will certainly see if it is something that can be done and if not we will explain why. We are not closed off and my inbox is MEVER full you can always reach me by PM or email, it is posted through true forum.

Lester,  We have 16,000 members.  Over 5,000 that post.  Do you have any guess how many have been "scolded" ???  Have you ever been scolded?

I have a couple of decades of experience with forums.  Me, OldMan, a few others here remember when the biggest oldest Peyronies Disease forum on the internet had no rules.  People would insult each other and encourage each other to commit suicide.  That forum is just a bad memory because after decades of existence the founding of this forum shut it down.  People left it in droves thankful that a forum with reasonable rules showed up on the scene.

Back then was one other forum that was so moderated that they would change your posts secretly so you or no one else would know it.  They did not allow discussion of any treatment that a few doctors did not sanction and they prohibited any expression of the displeasure of any treatment a few doctors routinely recommended or prescribed. By the way, that forum also no longer exists.  People left it and flocked here because they wanted a free voice to discuss treatments with the only requirement being respect and a lack of profanity.

So I am not sure who is going away for being scolded.  My best estimate over the last 15 years and 16,000 members would be about 5 or 10.  The other 10 that were scolded are still here.  ;)

Cheers

Lester

I wrote in the past a summary of the forum rules:
SUMMARY of FORUM RULES - Peyronies Society Forums
If you will read carefully, you will see that most of the rules are rules of any civilized society so is not difficult to remember.

My English not good enough To know what is  "scolded", but if it means that a member is told again and again not to violate the forum rules, he can just go and find another forum where he will be not scolded. I know some other forums, in other subjects that after 2 or 3 forum rules violations he will be banned straightaway. Forums with much more rules than this one.

Not to mention that those violations make the all volunteers Administrators and moderators busy with unnecessary work.

In my military career, I say quite frequently that almost every rule has a story that originated that rule.  People do some crazy things and, as a result, a new rule has to be created.  Maybe when people are thinking "gee, what a stupid rule, they should try to imagine what stupidity could have caused the need for that rule. I am pretty sure that Lester7's comment about Moderator being a thankless job, is a show of support for the Admin team that keeps this forum going smooth and bully free.

Great points Larry, I agree that Lester made positive statements and I want to be clear that 95% of the responses were not directed at him.  He has been an asset certainly not a troublemaker.  His post just gave a chance to explain to other members and guests where this forum came from and the history that created the need for it and that propelled it to success.

Larry's point about the history behind rules is so true.  Dumb people, jerks, and blunders cause rules.  When forums don't have them then moderators and administrators treat individuals based on their personal attitude about them.  They arbitrarily ban one person and let another mistreat people or abuse the forum.  There is no sense of fairness and members never know where they stand or when they will be next.

Every rule here was discussed with a team and as Larry said, grows out of a history of bad things that happened because the rule did not exist.  Many of our rules were put to a vote by forum members.  That is a LOT of work and I know no other forum that ever does that.  Even over 15 years and changes in teams, new teams question rules because they don't know the history.  I sometimes have to dig the history of the rule up so we can discuss it again.

I deeply appreciate all the moderators that literally kept this forum afloat and who seldom get a sincere thank you".  These are members who were asked to volunteer.  They built and maintain a place for a neglected group who had nothing to help them cope and fight back.  That is why I am very protective when someone starts to abuse them.

Unfortunately, I know far too well what it's like to be a Moderator who is crap on all the time. I did have many members PM me with most sincere thanks and some even do it publically although, I think most did it privately because they didn't want the trouble makers ganging up on them.  Hawk, your Moderators are very lucky to have a Site Administrator that supports, protects and defends them unlike me whose Administrator would defend the trouble makers and never told me what he planned to do about their abuse.  I think being a Moderator here would be a whole different experience.

As I tell many of my military collegues, almost every rule I encounter has a story to go with it.  Common Sense is not so common anymore.  I am fairly new here and I have done a couple of thing that don't nessissairly break the rules but go against what is desired... I get a PM letting me know what the problem is and how to fix it.  The message is instructional and professional. The OP of this ridiculous rant needs to step up to the plate and become a moderator for a while... I have.  It's a thankless job where members thing EVERYTHING is your fault and they never do anything wrong.
