Hello All.

Today is my third surgery for this condition:

1 Egydio Procedure 2 years ago

2 Stage procedure - in an attempt to correct residual curvature

3. Today's plication surgery (hopefully the last)

I am writing from my hospital bed. I had my surgery this morning at 8:15 am
They are keeping me here until tomorrow morning.

So far, no major pain. They wrapped my weenie in a clear dressing. It is still a little swollen, but not too bad.

Gelman has a guy doing a fellowship, named James. he is the one that came in and spoke with me this morning, and checked up on me this afternoon. He's a nice guy from Oklahoma. He said, after his fellowship with Gelman, is moving back to Oklahoma, to open up his practice.

He said that the surgery took 3 hours. I haven't seen Gelman today. I was knocked out before I went into the operating room. Tomorrow, I am supposed to meet with Gelman.

The staff here at UC Irvine, are very professional and nice. They just brought me some food, the food's not bad either.

So far, a positive experience, and hopefully the last.

My advice to those who are considering surgery:

Before considering any grafting surgery, please consider the risks. They make it sound attractive, like you will be saving your length vs. plication, but it didn't work out that way for me.

Plication, is by far, the most practical, safest solution to the problem of curvature. The recovery times is much shorter than grafting procedures.

Again, length is definitely a consideration, but I have not seen proof that grafting does what it claims to do, in terms of preserving length.

With plication, a skilled surgeon is going to place the sutures in the most effective way to straighten your penis, without sacrificing more length than is necessary to: shorten the longer side, to match the shorter side.

If you are okay with the length of the shorter-side, then you just might have found your solution. Sorry for the Hard Sell, but I want you guys to be able to benefit from my experience.

Good post David.  We all wish you the best.  Keep us updated.

Apparently, ED is no issue for you.  If so, an implant may be a better solution than grafting or plication.

Dave, thanks for your recommendation after going through three different types of surgery.  Plication does seem like the less risky and invasive if shortening is acceptable.  Any idea why the first two surgeries failed?

Hello gents. Thank you for your replies. That is correct, in my case, it was not an issue. My apologies for not adding that detail. In cases where ED is an issue, a prosthetic implant is the method of choice. As far as the prior failures, in the case of my #1 Egydio grafting procedure, I was told by the surgeon, that the grafting material adhered to itself, causing the graft material to shrink. In the case of #2 Stage plication surgery, I can't really say what went wrong with that one. For #3 plication, I just spoke to Dr. Gelman. He went over the surgery, and the intricacies of doing revision surgery, but says that I should have a good outcome. For you Godfather movie fans, he quoted the opening line of the movie, where the Godfather says to the guy: something like: you went to the police first? Why did you go to the police? Why didn't you come to me first?

First surgery was in Yachia technique so it was some kind of plication.
I am happy that I didnt have any graft so I think I am straight forward case.
I dont have any fears that Gelman will not handle with this. I will be having the plication with him next week.
According to Kuehhas my case is easy. In Gelman's opinion too.

Vvv

daved2 Did you lose length with all these operations? or you did not lose any length?

daved2

Hi Vvv. I did lose some length..About an inch, but in retrospect, my curve was over 50 degrees, at one point. Long side was 16 cm (a little over 6"), and the short side was 13 cm. 13cm equals 5.125 in. Although I was happy having solid 6", I realize that if was like a bent tree. The extra inch was being wasted.

Hello gents. Although I was discharged on Friday afternoon, I'm out walking around at the mall, with no pain and no meds. No bandages either. After surgery, they wrap you in a clear bandage, that you remove in the shower the next day. Other than the color and shape of my penis looks like an eggplant, I feel no pain, unless i bump it on something.

They just say keep it clean, and no baths or jacuzzi for a few weeks

I had my surgery just 8 hours ago. Doc said everything went perfect. No problems at all. They have just removed the bandage and I am in shock because there is not ANY sweeling or hematoma. The penis looks completely normal except the incisions. Hope it will be ok

Congratulations and good luck.  Be sure to keep everyone posted.

Here's an update on my surgery, that was performed on September 13th:

a few days after my surgery, I started getting night-time erections. They were straight as an arrow.

Still some swelling, and a little bruising. Swelling is mostly in the glans. This is due to the circumfrencial incision, which is made for degloving purposes.

So far, so good. In the coming weeks, I look forward to more healing, so I can get back to normal sexual activity, using my new, straight penis.

Based on my calculations, my stretched length is 14 cm, which equates to about 5.5 inches. This could be due to retraction. After healing, if I could make it to 15 cm, which is just shy of 6 in. I would be very happy. A straight, 6 in penis, with ample girth, might be just the tool to do the job.

Will post updates, as I make progress. Thanks for reading. I wish you the best in your journey to rid yourself of this affliction.

I do not understand. Didn't you tell that you are 5 " after the two previous surgeries? How are you going to gain 1 " after other surgery  ??? ?

I too am confused.  Didn't the plication surgery shorten the 6" side of your penis to match the 5.1" side in order to make your penis straight?  If so how will you "make it to 15 cm" (6")?  I would think that you cannot use traction on a penis that had plication surgery.

Dr Gelman doesnt recommend the traction after the surgery. Maybe it is too risky? I asked him and he respond it is not recommended.

For me everything is fine too. I am very straight and I didnt lose nything of my lenght. The most surprising thing for me is a quality of the erection - definetely much, much better than before the surgery. It destroys my pants. Before the operation my erections looked not full enough, it was maybe 70% of that what I wish to had. Now the erection is mind blowing -maybe because I had damaged one of the vein after first surgery and Gelman fixed it. He said it was interesting to him that first surgeon did damage one of my veins.

Today is 7th day after the surgery. Actually surgery is not a problem at all. A catheter and dreins are the worst thing about these surgeries. The rest is very easy.

But the worst thing are thoughts - did I choose the correct surgeon? Will it be succesful or maybe not? Will I stay with correct quality of the erection? Maybe I should not to do it this surgery and just stay at home? Those thoughts was a nightmare everyday and everynight. I am very happy that I did 2nd of surgery. I was waiting for that moment one year. My thoughts was always sceptical, but in the deep of my soul and heart I knew it is very correct and very good choice.

I wish the best to everyone of you. Don't be scared about the surgery, choose the best surgeon which is definelety the most important thing what you should do and you will be happy.

daved2

Hello guys. Sorry to confuse all. Perhaps I was a little confused myself?

Way back before, I was about 6.5 in with peyronies. Post all three surgeries, today my stretched length is a little over 13 cm, or 5.125 in

I am only out of surgery less than 2 weeks, so I am going easy with my stretch.

I am confident, that once the healing process is over, I will get  to 14 cm, which is 5.5 in

This would account for the one inch net loss from the beginning of this long journey.

Sorry for any confusion, thank you for bringing this to my attention. You guys deserve accurate information.

Djordj,

As far as the costs for Dr. Gelman, I know that he will work with you on the cost. I know that money is a consideration, and that money does not grow on trees. There are a lot of doctors out there that will do surgeries for less money, but they cant match the skill level of Gelman

Gelman uses absorbable suitors or not ?

and for the lenght loss....... how do you measure your shorter size ? i have ventral curvature and its verry hard to measure. Ive heard that, if i stretch my penis and measure this lenght, this lenght will be after the surgery. is this true ? And how hard should i streched it ? as much as i can ?

Thanks for the answers.

When erect take a tape measure pressing along your penis measure the length.  Like measuring the inside curve of a banana, not tip to tip, but right along the inside curve of the peel.

Hi Agony. For answers to specific plication methods used by Dr. Gelman, I recommend that you contact him directly at the center for reconstructive Urology UC Irvine. Tell him that you were referred to him by me, David D. He should know who you are referring to, and is good about doing an initial phone consult, or email consult

Can plication straighten a penis with a lateral curvature? On Dr. Gelmans website I only see him refer to strictly up and down curvature

By the way, how are you doing David? Recovery going well?
Age: Late 20's
Date of Onset: 2014
Symptoms: Down and left curve 60+ degrees
Treatment: Plication surgery with Levine in 2022 after failed stem cell, traction, shockwave, and other treatments.
Current Status: Now straight. Here to help.

Hello Ruff. Gelman does lateral curves. Mine was a left curve, and now it is straight.

It has been eight and a half weeks since the surgery, and I continue to have arrow-straight erections.

I am live with this condition for many years, and I am happy to say that I know what it is like to have a normal looking, straight penis.

There is still some healing left to go. Because of the degloving process, the circumferential incision in the glans, causes some swelling, which takes the body a while to fully, firm up the skin.

This works fine for masturbation, but I have refrained from any penetration, until the skin firms up a little bit more.

I'm sure it would work, but I want it to be more comfortable, and less tender.

About me - two months are gone. It is quite interesting that I had the surgery just after daved2. The world is small.

I am very straight too and I don't have a feeling anything will change for worse. All function are completely normal too and the erection are even MUCH harder than before.

I highly recommend dr Gelman - forget about European Doctors without american expertise and skills.

It is quite interesting that dr Gelman put DOUBLE layer of the sutures into tunica albuginea. Second thing - they say that erection may help make the scar tissue supple. It is completely different approach to the problem because as you know, the most common instructions are "AVOID erections like a hell because IT CAN break the sutures". Dr Gelman's fellow James Furr said it is quite impossible to break the sutures in method that they use ;)

PS. I didn't lose anything from my original lenght. Forget about the penile shortening - it is a myth ;)

TonySa

Plication always results in shortening of the longer side to the length of the shorter side.  Excision/incision w grafting hopefully not.

Hello gents. Thank you for your inquiry. I am doing well. It is been nearly six months since I had my surgery, and my penis is straight.

for those of you, who wonder if your penis will ever be straight, there is hope.If you look at my post, and the responses of the other guys who have chosen the same path as I have in choosing Dr Gelman to perform their surgery, they will describe positive results.

Well nothing in life is guaranteed, Gelman is one of the very best in the world, if not the best.

Excision removes or releases the plaque that is causing the constriction or shorter side, hopefully allowing it to its previous length.  The grafts then allows healthy tunica tissue to regrow.
