Drugs Interaction
« on: December 17, 2009, 03:52:18 PM »

Pretty new to the forum. Just starting some kind of program. I got a prescription for pentox. Took it once and then an abscessed tooth went awry. Went to the dentist. Long story short, I ended up getting a root canal that same day. Much better now. But I'm taking Ammoxicillian, methyldone steroid pack, and vicadon for pain. I'm very concerned about mixing drugs. My theory has always been the fewer the better. I called my pcp about what i had been taking. He told me to stop the pentox until the infection in my tooth (mouth) was gone. To do the ammox and steroid pack until gone. And I was just starting on the cocktail thing (L-arginine, pentox, Vit E. Levitra).  does anyone think it would be ok to take the l-arginine and levitra with the antibiotic and vicoden. I'm pretty ignorant on supplements. I'm also taking  lisinopril for high bp. Just always been paranoid with any mixing. Any suggestion or guidance is appreciated.  danh

Dan,  Neither Pentox OR Lisinopril have many bad interactions as far as I know.  In other words both are pretty safe drugs.  The only problem with Pentox is that it is a mild immune suppressant, so taking it while trying to get rid of an infection might not be a good idea, which is probably what your PHP is concerned about.  So stopping the Pentox until you finish the antibiotics sounds like good advice to me.  And Pentox is a long term treatment so stopping it for a few days should not be a problem.  I also have to warn you that I am not a doctor, so my suggestion is to take your whole list, supplements and all, and run them by your local pharmacist.  They are the real experts on these things and they are usually more than happy to help.  - George

Sounds like a good idea. Do you think they know more about mixing them than my Primary care physician. Seems I can talk to him about my condition. But might be a little embarrassing at the pharmacy, which always has someone standing around waiting on a prescript. Maybe I can just give him the list without any details on why I take them.

1)  I think that pharmacists actually know a lot more about this issue than the docs do.  Thats what pharmacology is, after all.

2)  Absolutely no need to go into detail as to WHY you are taking these things.  Just provide the list and ask him to check on interactions for you.

drug interactions?
« Reply #5 on: February 02, 2012, 09:28:51 PM »

Aloha all I just wanted to ask a quick question.....I'm currently on lovestatin and was wondering if this drug is ok to take w/ the various Peyronies Disease oral treatments? Also it seems my Erectile Dysfunction started about the time I started taking this drug..does that make any sense or do you think it's coincidence?

2 things.

I personnally do not think that there is interaction between statins and the Peyronies Disease oral treatments, as long as you stick to pentox, ubiquinol, vitamins and PD5 blockers (viagra or cialis).

But i recently read a study saying that there are reports saying that statins CAN cause Erectile Dysfunction.
BUT the study also says: it is not proven, and can be only a coincidence.
here is the full study:

http://fampra.oxfordjournals.org/content/19/1/95.full

Luc

PS: one case report says:
Quote
Erectile Dysfunction in association with statins was first reported by Halkin et al. where both lovastatin and pravastatin separately caused Erectile Dysfunction in a 57-year-old man.
Jackson reported five cases of Erectile Dysfunction with simvastatin at doses of 10 and 20 mg.
Sexual function was restored within 1 week of stopping the drug.
Two patients were rechallenged and impotence recurred. Alternative lipid-lowering therapies (fluvastatin or fenofibrate) did not cause this effect in these patients.
They say that nothing is proven, but:
If I were you, I would switch to fluvastatin or another one.
( BUT: I AM NOT A DOCTOR -  its just an idea!!!!)
Or just stop taking it for 10 days.. and see if something changes in your sexual functions.
If nothing changes, it may be a coincidence.

starting treatment?
« Reply #8 on: February 06, 2012, 10:15:42 PM »

Aloha out there....I will be starting a treatment program soon(as soon as I get my meds). I have decided to go with the Pentox 400mg/3 x /day, L-arginine (500mg ?x/day),Trazadone 25mg at bedtime, Aloe Vera soft gels (2x daily ..?mg)maca 500mg daily. I will fill out my history as soon as I post this....was wondering what any of you guys thought about my choices and if there would be any value to starting them at different times i.e.staggering the start of each a month apart or something like that to maybe try to isolate the effects of each drug as they come into play or just take the whole sheebang from the get go? I see that some of you have done a massive amont of research (which I appreciate) and thought I'd get your take on it Mahalo Kevin

That sounds not so bad, Pentox being the important element.
L-Arginine I personnaly take 1000mg a day. (some here take 2x 1000mg)
maca wond  hurt you.

I suppose you know that the Trazadone will have no physical effect on your Peyronies Disease.
But it can help if you are depressed about it.

As to Aloe Vera soft gels, I must admit I never heard somebody using them for peyronies.
But as they are very cheap and they will probably not do you any harm - its worth trying.
They could help with high blood pressure, against anxiety, etc, etc..
BUT I have no idea about the dosage. so get yourself informed.!!!!
(I personnally think - as they are also supposed to work against constipation -  that you might get diarrhea when using high dosage over a long time)

There are two types of aloe vera supplements.  The most popular one is a very harsh laxative.  It is usually sold in the form of capsules containing a dry powder.  The other type is usually sold as a gell in a softgel capsule.  It has absolutely zero laxative effect and is made from a different part of the aloe plant.  It's major effect is anti-inflammatory.  I have used it for years.  It is very effective for cardio issues and in fact has been shown to stop cardio vascular disease in its tracks.  But as far as I can tell, it has had no significant effect on Peyronie's.  There are many, many different forms of anti-inflammatories and they tend to concentrate their effect on different tissues in different parts of the body.  Only certain ones provide benefits to those of us with Peyronie's.  As far as I can tell, aloe has never been a significant benefit in this regard.  - George

Thanks for the input guys....I realise the aloe soft gels and maca aren't the typical (if there is such a thing) treatment but thought I would see ifthey would help promote better vascular health/blood flowand maybe influence my Erectile Dysfunction...probably dreaming but what the hell nothing ventured nothing gained.

thanks for the input ...as for the trazodone I was intrigued by the nocturnal erection aspect at the 25mg dose thinking along the lines of the good blood flow to that area and figued it couldn't hurt especially since it's cost is practically zero.

Interestingly, Peyronie's is rather typical amongst people with diabetes.  In the case of diabetes, blood flow is compromised due to glucose causing damage to the autonomic nerves that control blood vessel dilation which really screws up circulation.  In this case, none of the neurologically dependent (vasodilators like L-arginine for example) blood flow supplements work because none of them can fix the neurological problem that is at the root of it all.  Pentox still works on a immune suppressant level AND blood flow level because it is not neurologically dependent.  Neurological damage that can compromise blood flow has been shown to occur in patients without diabetes IF they have IGT (Impaired Glucose Tolerance).  Virtually no doctors ever do the simple test required to diagnose IGT.  - George

Beware of thinking costwise. its not because its cheap that its automatically good.
I personnally think that trazodone (here in europe it is called trittico) can help, but using it over a long period can be dangereous in the sense that you can get dependant. not physically, but psychologically.
some similar substances worked for me also. no doubt.
because the anxiety, fear, nervousness you get when you are first diagnosed, kept me from having erections. Those substances make you calm down, get some sleep, and the erections come back. Thats the way it works.(I was using temesta)
But after 3 months i could not sleep anymore, if i did not at least have a package at home... (even if i did not take it, i was terribly nervous if i didnt have some at home)
So I think its ok taking them, but beware you can get addict quite quickly. so after a month or 2, try to take it only every second day, then after 2 months.. stop a month.. then start over again .. and so on. this makes you keep control in your head..
Thats just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info Luc ...Iwasn't aware of any addicting qualities for Trazodone at the small dosage level be it psychological or physical. Will take that into consideration...Aloha Kevin

I am thinking adding to my treatment L-Arginine. I read on the forum that many people use it including in the PAV cocktail.
I have made a small research by the Internet regarding L-Arginine and I find a warning including on Mayo Clinic that "Arginine use was associated with death in certain groups of heart patients". They are not mentioning what kind of heart problems.
Have somebody on the forum with knowledge in the subject?
I had a heart stroke back in 1995 followed by a balloon to enlarge one of my veins.

It has to do with a conflict with certain medications, especially those used to relieve angina like nitro-glycerin.  As long as you are not on heart meds, you should be OK with Arginine.

Thank you for the answer. The only medication I am taking is 100mg aspirin, you have answered me that is working on the platelets.

khong your taking way too much... like stick too pentox and a pill like viagra. Pentox will increase the blood flow and then you got something like viagra to help you hold the erection and give you one.
