Weird... Did I Really Get a Xiaflex Injection?
« on: May 24, 2018, 10:46:19 PM »

So... I'm on the second round of my second Xiaflex cycle, meaning I got shot #9 two days ago and tomorrow morning I get shot #10.  When I first started getting these injections, I had the normal reaction... needle hurt pretty bad then my dick got all black and blue and swollen for a couple days. As these shots have progressed, I'm getting less and less of a reaction. My shot two days ago was typical. The needle hardly hurt going in (or maybe I'm getting used to it, or maybe it was the Percocet I took.)  But that was it.  There was no evidence afterwards that anything had happened.  No mark, no swelling, maybe a tiny little bit of pain if I pushed around and searched for it.  Right now I've got my Restorex on at full tension and feel zero pain.

Has anybody experienced anything like this? I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing.  If the plaque is dead tissue that can't feel pain, maybe it's a sign that the medicine went perfectly into the plaque. My results from the first Xiaflex cycle were right at the average, about a 33% reduction of curvature.

Just ask your uro at the appointment. They would know best.

When I got Xiaflex shot number 8 (the last shot of the 4 in my second series of Xiaflex injections), the needle went into the scare tissue much easier than it had ever gone in before.  The doctor said the scare tissue felt much softer than previous injections.  I can relate to what you described about your recent injection being different.

Shot #10 this morning.  I think I yawned when the needle went in.  Now, zero bruising and hardly any pain.  Hardly any results either.

I read in the paper about a drug-addict nurse here who was stealing morphine and replacing it with plain water which she would inject into patients.  Could my Uro be a secret Xiaflex addict?

You didn't bother to ask your uro for their insight on what you're expierencig?

BadCheetah,

I think your dick is used to the trauma of the injections. Also, if your URO doesn't hit a blood vessel you won't get the same kind of bruising that you do if a blood vessel is hit. I went through 8 cycles and I had several injections where I had little to no bruising, not the normal, but not unusual. I've now gone through my 5th cycle of Verapimil and I get no bruising at all. Basically my dick has been worked out so much from the Xiaflex that nothing over works it now.

WhatNext,

I did ask my doctor about the lack of reaction to the shot.  He shrugged his shoulders and said that is common, "Maybe because it went straight into the scar tissue."

This doctor is the major Xiaflex provider in my city, a city that is world famous for its medical facilities. He sucks -- for lots of reasons.  He wants to get you in and out.  He doesn't make any kind of assessment about the intricacies of your curve.  I have to force him to look at a picture of my erection on my phone and he's like, "Yeah, yeah, hurry up and let's get this done."  In the past, he'd spend literally two seconds feeling around and then stick the needle in.  Now I point out exactly where I want the shot to go.

I think he's sick of looking at dicks.

If I had to do this over again, I'd only consider Lue or Levine or one of the specialists referred to in this forum.

I think the lesson here is that high volume xiaflex drs dont always mean a good thing.
A dr saying "maybe" is unsettling. Sorry to hear about that. It's never too late to switch. A call to your insurance provider can transfer the already approved treatments. I've had micro injections(multiple at the same Visit) and I've never found the needle going in anythig to yawn at. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but maybe not when it comes to this kinda stuff. It would just worry me to not feel it. I'd be concerned about long term sensitivity.
One injection I had, the dr started to get the needle in the right spot, but asked me calmly to hold my penis(mid injection) as he wanted to use both hands to steady the injection to make sure once he broke through that the needle wouldn't go all the way through and out the other side of the targeted spot. I could actually feel the liquid being injected.

Sorry to hear about the bedside manner. The fact that you take pics and ask questions shows you're taking this serious and also it helps make his job easier. I've had visits that lasted well over an hour simply because the dr addressed and listened to questions and concerns that I had.

I wish you luck in the future. This stuff isn't fun. Again, sorry to hear about all this.

I don't want to say where I live because that will identify this doctor and I'm not in the mood to do that.  Also, these are my subjective observations -- others may have had a great experience with him.  If you have a doctor who will spend an hour discussing your situation, you've really lucked out.

Dr Lues pretty quick but still answers a question or two each time and is very conscientious in finding the best location each time to inject.
