Title: What do you do to take your mind off Peyronies Disease and in a positive direction?
Post by: this_day on April 28, 2014, 11:24:42 PM
The title is a bit wordy, but hope you get the idea.

Do you take up a hobby?  Or do you spend your time doing something else?

Lately I have been writing....A LOT.  But I find myself writing more about this and it's getting annoying.  I used to work out every other day, but now I'm thinking of volunteering or doing something else.  I am getting out of this depression state that has eaten me alive for years; I've tried so many hobbies and kinda "over it".  Just trying to see what you all may enjoy doing in your past time.  We NEED to stay positive!

I don't have a shortage of interests (not hobbies, they cost money), like my research in math, puzzles, chess, quantum physics etc.. But to cope with this stuff is not an intellectual problem so I felt powerless.
I read Amery's "At the minds limits" about his experiences in the holocaust as well as his treatise on voluntary death which made me understand that the intellectual can not use his mind to overcome / transcend sheer terror and suffering.
And Peyronie's psychologically is by far the worst disease that is known to exist.
So what I've done is I gotten heavily into buddhism, mindfulness excersises and meditation. I bought the middle length discourses of the Buddha and reading that.. Buddhism is all about ending suffering, freeing yourself and dissolving into nothingness. So since I've suffered in the past year physically and mentally more than ever  before in my life it fits. And about self-transcendent experiences. It helps me calm down a lot from anxiety and see the universe and my place in it in a clearer and more peaceful perspective so to speak.

Not to think about Peyronies 24 hours a day:
* Building a new boat
* Helping some friends that don't speak the local language
* Writing software for some applications.
* Active on the forum as moderator.
* Activities with my family.

I'm writing a novel featuring a man with Peyronie's and have also set up a (so far private) blog about 'nearly sex' - including how to be sexual and sensual without a fully operating cock, but also about loving relationships which don't
involve much or any sex; how we handle our sense of sexuality as libido and functions fade... so not exactly escaping the topic but.. I write about other things too.

Hobbies and exercise are great. They don't just distract, they help build confidence in your body and mind. You start to realize that you are more than your penis. My hobbies include:

-Woodworking
-Cycling
-Running
-Fishing
-Video games
-General futzing about on the internet

Oddly enough, I do find myself thinking about Peyronie's when I am very focused on my hobbies, you know, that "in the zone" feeling when you are concentrating but your mind feels agile? I think about it, but it doesn't bother me. It's like Bruce Banner's secret to controlling becoming the Hulk: "My secret is I'm always angry."

I'm always aware of my Peyronie's, it doesn't bother me anymore.

Archery Skjald?
If you are interested in real archery, read the books about the Hun's archery :)
From a horse back, with no saddle, on a 90 meter fast run 3 arrows in the target.
One when galloping forward, one from the side, one turning your body back after passing the target.

I agree that hobbies & exercise are great and help you realize that you are more than your penis, buuutt boy is it a lot to deal with.  It's almost living as if you don't have a penis.  I can't have sex because it hurts, I can't approach women because of this embarrassment, I can't relate to peers my age because they don't understand this inner suffering, just a lot of things.

Realistically i only think about my peyronie's for a small portion of the day. It is probably easier for us guys in long term relationships as we don't have the worries about how to deal with meeting a girl/guy and explaining about ED or other difficulties in bed. But for me, I find playing my guitars or piano a wonderful way to prevent myself dwelling on matters such as peyronie's. I also read a great deal, and illustrate for children's books. I bought a new telescope recently, and spend ages watching the stars on clear nights. I also take advantage of free college courses by the Open University, the "futurelearn" e-courses.

I have always had a lot of hobbies, fishing ,tackle making, hunting, bullet making .Archery, arrow making and tuning, practice, trap shooting and reloading, making fishing poles, then there is lawn mowing yard chores, snow clearing, house hold repairs. and every thing else life brings. Not sure I have time for Peyronies to interfere  with my life, it brings great problems for sex as I have a 90 degree bend and lost 4" in length girth is smaller and it doesn't always fire. but I am 57 and well it could be worse, I'm a heart patient. I could be dead. Keep your head up guys there is always someone out there who's problems are much worse then a penis problem, they're in every hospital!

OK I really think it depends on how old one is and if there is a functianal Relationship in the background - Plus how important ones sexlive is at all (for lifequality's sane and so on).

Comparing it to other deseases that may more Worth or not  IMHO - doesnt make sence because its not the way one should deal with things - like "look at him he is suffering more than me  - well than i have to be much better " - No definitilty not.

Every One is prisoned in his own Body with his own feelings and emotions - thus you can't compare Situations beeing better or worth when it comes to suffer from any desease or life circumstances to have yourself feeling kind of better ...

Same with Hobbys and stuff you do, to not let this crap overcome you every single day - maybe OK - but as Sigmund Freud said when you avoid - supress a problem doesn't mean that it goes away - it is still there and it still influence the way you life as long as it is really solved.

So besides not to think about it at all or let it overtake your live I'am still look at how can it solved in a way that I can live with it - maybe as i metioned in another Thread an Implant as last resort....

But for me it is out of the question to supress it and hope for better days (maybe because I'm only about 7 Month in right now and I'm not that Old (47) ) I only can deal with it as long as i think i can kind of finaly solve it by some kind of radical solution like Operation ....

If that is not possible than i think give up on sex is the only thing that will kind of work (not for me) - because it would come to that point... well there is another radical solution...

ALL other stuff is supress a problem that is a Problem until it will be solved by the one or another way....

just my 2 cents

drink alcohol till u dont care. life becomes a blur of work and drug abuse. dodge the subject with ur partner whenever it arrises. pritti much how iv been travelling for 10+ years. thats all well and good doing all the hobbies and stuff (iv got plenty of them). but i literally blame this disease for holding me back from alot of women and experiences. before i had it i was a very open confident popular sort of guy. this crushed me down to nothing. just angry at the world and confidence with women is absolutely shot. for me its more so what iv missed because of it and that time and experiences is gone never to ve recovered. that crap f... my head up the most

Meditate, eat healthy, lift weights, practice positivity and loving my penis as it is.

For me, I think I have all the theories on self improvement and sexuality that I need. The only thing I need now is practice.
How often do I redirect my mind toward positivity and commitment / acceptance, how hard I try, and much I buy in to the idea that my brain is plastic and I can change. This is all that matters for me now. So many times I'll meditate for a bit, then stop and go back to my default neural processes. It's not enough, you have to live it. Alcohol and other obsessive activities or distractions make it harder to stop your brain from going back into pain. Exercise, healthy eating, meditation, and socialization, make your brain change. All the research shows this is true.

Having a wife helps obviously, but before meeting my wife, I forced myself to meet women constantly and tell them about my Peyronie's. This was crucial to me, and I think my wife and I ever separated I would do it again on a daily basis.

I smoke a lot of weed and game. It's not good, but I'm done working out, shooting teatosterone, eating healthy having a steady job and all that. I live like I don't care anymore and I don't. If this is the way it is I refuse to do crap.

I understand your frustration  :)

Just listened yesterday again to the Eagles "Hotel California" when the night man say:
QuoteYou can check out, but you can never leave
It's right regarding drugs, but is not right regarding Peyronies.

I am reading all the posts on this forum and have many success stories.
Many helped by medications, some by Xiaflex, surgeries, implants and other treatments
In the mean time myself learned to be with Peyronies, at 69 I have a good sex life (will be much better if I had implant).

Keep trying and you will find a solution for your Peyronies.
You are right saying it is not normal to be on such forum, we just try to help each other, this is why we are here :)
