Hi, everyone!

I've been lurking on here for about a week now trying to consume all the information I possibly can, and I thought I should go ahead and introduce myself. I'm 35 years old and married. I've been a vegetarian for 6 years, but I've recently discovered I can't handle dairy anymore, so now I eat a mostly vegan diet. My last physical exam was under a year ago, and my doctor said I was extremely healthy. Still, I deal with a lot of anxiety, especially when it comes to health-related issues. Anyway, those are some basics.

I'm not particularly well-versed in penile anatomy as, until now, I haven't really considered it much. So excuse me if I use some fuzzy terminology. A week and a half ago, I noticed a hard lump about mid-shaft. It's palpable from the top and bottom. It seems to be larger some days than others, but I would say on average it's somewhere in the range of 1 cm, and it feels round-ish, not flat or elongated. I have no pain, either when flaccid or erect, no curvature, and only maybe a slight indentation on the top side. I haven't tested my erection strength in a few days for fear of exacerbating whatever is going on. I can't pinpoint any injury. I check myself regularly for abnormalities, so I feel pretty confident in saying that this arose spontaneously about a week and a half ago.

I saw my physician on Monday, and he felt the lump and told me it was a "calcification" and that I shouldn't let it stop me from "swinging from the chandelier" with my wife (his words). He ordered an ultrasound for me, and that was it. No further information. No idea what to expect. The imaging center called me the next day and said they don't actually do that test. Now I'm going to see a urologist on Tuesday, and I hope to get some better information.

In the meantime, I've been abstaining and have started taking acetyl l-carnitine 500 mg twice a day, because I don't know what else to do. What would anyone recommend for someone in my condition? Does this sound like peyronie's? It hasn't worsened any since the day I noticed the lump, but I'm worried it will if I don't do anything about it. Any information, reassurance, and guidance anyone can give me from their own experience is greatly appreciated!

welcome, sounds like Peyronies Disease to me, but your'll find out for sure when you have your URO appointment, not much you can do until, no quick fix, just hope you can control it now you have caught it in early stage.
best of luck, keeps us informed on your progress.

Having a uro evaluate the lump is better than a general MD.  He said calcification, which would likely be incorrect terminology on his part.  He should have said its a plaque, and it might not even be that.  A plaque is a scar made up of collagen.  The scar is like a scar on your skin, its is possibly an injury that healed up incorrectly.   The new collagen is disorganized into a lump rather then being properly reintergrated into the existing tissue.  Calcification happens when its ages, calcium deposits and replaces the collagen, it becomes harder.  I think you can only call it calcified by a sonogram.

Anyway its not even a guarantee that is is a plaque, might be a vein or something like that, let the urologist tell you that.  Do you have Peyronie's?  Peyronies is really the symptoms that can come about as a result of the Plaque.  Those are curving, hourglassing, hinging, painful erections, ED, loss of size/girth.  Just because you have a plaque doesnt mean you will get the Peyronies symptoms, but you should take some care as a result.  For example, dont go "swinging from the chandelier".  Use common sense, dont get into sexual positions which put a lot of stress (bending) on your boner.  Dont force it if you are not fully erect yet,  dont go crazy masturbating, etc.

As an additional safe supplement you can add coq10 300-400 mg daily to your regimen.  Some evidence it will help Peyronies, and has other health benefits

Get your diagnosis from your urologist and see what he says your should do.  Then check back in with the guys on this site.  You need to become your own advocate.  Anyway good luck on your appt. and please let us know how it goes...

Thank you guys so much for your responses! I picked up a bottle of coq10 to add to my regimen, thanks for the recommendation. I'm trying my best not to worry, but as I said, I have pretty severe anxiety, even about small things. Today I've tried to test my erection for the first time in several days, and I'm having trouble getting and keeping it. Noticing larger than normal veins (maybe?) on the sides of my penis. I've probably been doing too much reading on the internet, because now I'm worried about venous leak, too.

For all I know, the trouble getting an erection is psychological. My wife and I actually had sex six days after I noticed the lump, and there was no problem. It wasn't until I started reading about peyronie's and related issues that I started to freak out and lost my erections.

Anyway, I'm going to try to calm down until I talk to the urologist. Just don't want to think about a lifetime with some sort of incurable ED.

Yeah, sometimes the big head can be your worst enemy... Just relax and enjoy your intimate time with your wife.  ED doesnt come on overnight, so dont sweat it.  If you are really worried have the uro give you an Rx a few viagra or cialias.  Normally guys who are having anxiety use it once or twice, see that everything is still works, and get back to normal ... whatever that means, lol.  Wait to see what the uro tells you about the lump you feel....

Still waiting for my appointment and trying my best not to freak out. I'm taking acetyl l-carnitine 500mg twice a day, coq10 100mg once a day (it makes me feel a little sick), maca smoothie in the afternoon, exercising at least 30 minutes, getting lots of vitamin c, eating lots of blueberries and pomegranate and green tea, etc. My lump has not decreased in size but doesn't seem to be getting any bigger.

I've worried myself sick to the point that I was convinced I had severe ED. Last night I did have three erections that I woke up and noticed. They were all at about 70%, and the glans was not fully inflated. Will that improve as the inflammation goes down? Is there anything I can do about it? There is definitely an indentation on the top of the shaft.

If your appt. is soon, I think you can wait until then, there isn't a lot you gave to do right now that would change the course of things.  If it is a plaque, you should see somebody who specializes in treatment.  At that point you could look to start traction, or VED.  Traction definitely helped me with feeling like there was an improvement in erection quality, thicker and harder.  But if it's not a plaque then I am not sure you really need traction.  Maybe viagra or Cialis might be your answer, or maybe even look at hypnosis, if the ed is mental and not physical.  THese are really suggestions, I don't know what is actually right for you ...

Don't assume it is Peyronies. Can you tell if the bump is on the Tunica (shaft) and your skin slides over it? Or is it in the skin itself? It could be a skin issue and nothing to do with Peyronies.

Had my uro appointment this morning. He felt the lump and said that, in his opinion, and since I've noticed an indentation, it's definitely a peyronie's plaque. He called it small and said he doesn't see any reason for an ultrasound at this point. He was very good about answering my many, many questions, although most of what he told me was stuff I've already read here. He wants to take a conservative approach since I don't have any curvature, so he gave me 5 mg of Cialis to take for a month, and then I'm supposed to check back. I think I'm gonna follow his orders, try to get out of my own head, and see how this works for me. Thank you all for your responses!

While not exactly what you hoped for, it sounds like the next best thing, no symptoms.  I think the conservative approach is ok for now.  Make sure your uro is up on Peyronies treatments.  You have knowledge from this site so you should be able to tell by his answers if he is a person to stick with.  As long as you are comfortable with him then see how things progress for the month.  The Cialis 5 mg daily use should take care of any ED issues btw.  Not sure if they still do it, but Lilly used to have a coupon for Cialis, if you have to pay cash for it.  Probably cost you around $375 of the month.  If you start to see symptoms then you can get more proactive with treatments.... good luck

Hi, just wanted to put out there that some believe it's best to be very proactive w treatment in the early stages because 40% worsen over time.  If you wanted to take that approach you may want to start pentox and traction/VED and maybe supplements.  Good luck!

Honest questions (I'm sorry if these sound stupid; all the information I've read on this forum is getting muddied in my mind): Since I don't currently have any curvature, what would VED do for me? Would it help at all with a mild indentation? Would I run the risk of exacerbating the injury or making things worse? I'm so afraid of messing with it much at all, because there's no traumatic event I can recall that precipitated this. It just seems like such a sensitive thing. Is there any evidence that light manual stretching helps?

Do I need a prescription for Pentox, and how does it work?

What supplements would you recommend? Currently taking Vitamin E, acetyl l-carnetine, coq10, maca, vitamin c. Also making sure I exercise and watching my diet closely.

TonySa

Peyronies plaque can start as indentation and worsen to a curvature.  Traction has shown to be helpful in the acute stage of peyronies.  An easy way to start is w manual stretching.  NeoV has some great videos on YouTube explaining this.  Many have found VED helpful, esp for indentations and hour-glassing.  Pentox requires a prescription, if you can't get one you might consider adding CoQ10 to your supplement regimen.  Sounds like a good supplement regimen you are on.

Thanks! I'll look into it. Just afraid of messing with it too much. Already taking CoQ10!
