Do penile injuries necessarily lead to Peyronie's, or is it possible to have a penile injury and recover without issue?

Monty

when you think about it, i doubt if there is a man or boy without penile injury, at some time in life you got kicked, hit by balls playing sports, pulled it to hard, female on top going too far and bending it, falling on your bike crossbar the list goes on and on, and we all don't get peyronies, so you have to ask, is it injury that courses it? i have my doubts.

The short answer is YES! I can recall at least 3 injuries I had over the years (girl on top, slips out and gets compressed as she comes down hard on it). The first two I healed with no apparent scarring but the last time...Peyronies Disease. So Something changed with respect to my ability to heal as I got older. I was about 52 when I got Peyronies Disease and I was already noting things like circulation problems blood sugar and cholesterol increases and T levels dropping. Those health issues I believe set the stage for Peyronies Disease to occcur when you get injured.

The somewhat depressing thing is Peyronie's has been known for over 250+ Years, yet a guaranteed treatment eludes us, yet it is estimated 13% of us suffer from this, I think it is much higher  :(

I still think Peyronie's has a genetic component, Peyronie's is more common in Caucasian men  :-\

How come it used to hit between 40-60 Years of age, yet guys are coming to the forum at their prime 18-30 Years, is there unknown environmental issues that include nutrition, questions, questions  >:(

Some Men have one layer Tunica Albuginea, some Men have three, is this the reason some guys get it and others don't  :-\

Can a penile injury occur and not lead to Peyronie's? Truth, nobody knows!

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

@crooked_stick: I think I may have injured mine last night masturbating. It has gained a very slight slight left lean and there is pain at the base. How do I deal with a penile injury to ensure it does not become peyronoe's? The pain is pretty bad. I'm not sure whether it's appropriate to go to the ER, or simply a clinic. Can I give it cold compress and a rest, and feel safe that it's probably not going to happen?

Okay, so we're at the end of four days later, and I can notice a vey, very gentle bend to the left. Slight hourglassing on the left side, too, visible even when flaccid. It looks like there is a star shaped patch of white discolouration on the left side, roughly over where the injury was. That said, it seems to move with the foreskin when I manipulate it, and does not seem fixed in place.

Is this normal with a penile injury? Will this side of the corpus Cavernosum be briefly affected during recovery? The pain has finally subsided to a faint throbbing. I've been avoiding wearing underwear, getting erections voluntarily, and any kind of friction or touching of the penis.

If it is peyronie's, I've seen that, just like with scarring elsewhere, it may resolve itself. Any tips for what I might do to aid this? Considering that t still faintly hurts, I know I'm definitely not going to touch the thing for at least a month or two. I think I'm a slow healer, and skin-wise, I scar very easily. Frankly, I'm freaking out

Crooked_Stick

First get to a urologist ASAP. Start pentox and low dose cialas. When pain resolves consider a VED/traction program. Make sure your blood work is where it needs to be. Have T levels, blood sugar etc., checked. Get an ultra-sound to identify any scarring. Down the road you might look into Xiaflex.

What is making me uncomfortable is that you're not answering my questions directly. At four days, I can imagine that any number of things are occurring here. It would make sense to me that the corpus Cavernosum will be less effective when injured. Could this not explain the lean? Scarring setting in so quickly seems unlikely to me.

Why cialis? Won't that raise my blood pressure? I already have familial risk for stroke. Pentox is for increasing blood flow to the area in general, right? I figure the best treatment for me right now is to leave it alone. Any "traction" will only increase the risk of scarring if I am someone who normally heals quite slowly.

Crooked's advice is right on, of course it's up to you to follow it or not.  To reiterate, get to a specialist ASAP

How has it been going, any improvement yet?  Cialis might actually lower BP slightly.  These drugs were originally studied for lowering pulmonary hypertension.  Better erections were a good side effect.  Peyronies is a scar tissue from incorrect healing.  We have many injuries over the course of our lives that heal fine, some dont and scar.  Think about cuts on the skin, sometimes we get a cut and two weeks later you would never know it, and sometimes we get a permanent scar.  A lot has to do with where the injury is, and how we treat it right away.  So I would say that not all injuries become Peyronies.

You would be about 11 days post injury?  If you havent seen marked improvement i.e., no pain at this point, curving going away, improvement in any bruising, etc, you should probalby go see a urologist.   Especially if you have a curve still there.  I think it is a pretty reasonable reason for a visit since your are nearly two weeks post injury.  At the very least you would get an exam and possibly an ultrasound.  I dont know if a plaque would be there yet, it might just be forming and I dont know if they see that.

In my opinion, not all injuries turn into peyronies, and not all injuries affect the penis itself. I think I've injred the fundiform ligament, it's a ligament that supports the penis like a sling. As I have no erection issues, at all. It's been hanging weird off my body and if I hold erections for a long time, I get pain in the base of my penis. If I abstain. Pain subsides, and erectjons hang better. However, with the hourglassing you're experiencing it sounds more of a pure penile injury. For all injuries  cases. It seems like abstaining is the best thing you can do for yourself if you have any type of pain at all, at least in the first months after. I certainly haven't been abstaining like I should. So I still haven't recovered. For the next month I will be resting and icing

The bend is still there during a semi-erect state. I *think* it has gotten worse, although it's really hard to say. I haven't been measuring it. It's still nearly invisible during my full erection, and my erections seem to be relatively unaffected (again, hard to say because anxiety about this issue and a lack of stimulation are playing a role).

Stupidly, I masturbated very, very, very gently today because, frankly, it's driving me insane. I really regret doing so. It didn't seem to cause any further pain, but it was a stupid thing to do nonetheless.

The pain has lightly metastasized to the other side, although again, it's hard to make any judgements other than perhaps the inflammation is putting pressure elsewhere. The dull ache is still there on the left side, although it is extremely dull now. Easy to ignore in any position (sitting, standing, lying down), albeit present. This is the saving grace and the biggest improvement. I'd say for the first 10 or 11 days of these 18, it was pretty bad. It has subsided to a feeling that I would favourably compare to a bruise of a similar age. I know from my own history of bruises, that they can last for up to a month. I'm now resolved to avoid touching it even to urinate, until I hit at least a one or two month mark. This is the best possible course, no? I'm looking for advice here.

I'm eagerly awaiting this appointment with the urologist on the 22nd. While it does appear that this may be peyronie's, it's quite possible that if I continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and perhaps start taking medications or receive other treatment, it may resolve itself, correct? I don't want to know whether my odds are good or bad, but at 26 I want to have some hope. I'm a physically fit, well-nourished man in his late 20's. Scars do eventually dissipate if you treat them right.

What has me most concerned is that, looking at my skin, I know I am easy to scar and slow to heal. It can take me up to 2 or 3 weeks to heal a simple cut. I don't know if I can extrapolate that information in respect to internal injuries. Since the ER doctors didn't seem too worried, I currently possess no literal or figurative picture of the injury internally, save for its symptom of pain. All they said is that it's likely I bruised it.

I've got to find a way to maintain abstinence that is more effective than the current routine. I haven't been getting much work and have been staying inside. Instead, perhaps, I'll get out there and do some outdoor activity. Normally I'd ride my bike, however I understand that it can affect blood flow to the genitals and thus dampen the healing.

Lastly, I'd like to ask again, is it possible for this to be the short term symptoms of a mild penile bruise or injury? As I said before, it would make sense to me that the corpus Cavernosum would be affected on the side where the injury occurred. Bruises are, after all, blood cots formed under the skin after an impact. Any clotting would presumably affect function.

If the bend is not consistently visible outside of a flaccid or semi-erect state (where it is most apparent), might it slowly disappear assuming I give it rest? Are there any stories here of people who thought they had peyronie's, only for it to dissipate as soon as it arrived? The only reason that I wonder if these are the symptoms of a simple injury and not a chronic disease is that the bend developed rapidly overnight, immediately after the sudden initial pain. I've never had any scar tissue develop that rapidly on my skin.

Hey man. IMO , I don't think anything else besides scar tissue or bending can cause hourglassing and indentation/pain. When I first realized I had peyronies and maybe my curved penis wasn't normal was when I noticed how terrible my penis looked after sex. Sometimes it bends really nasty going into a semi erect state and it hinges bad when flaccid. If I were you, get on pentox and other supplements ASAP. You cAn read my posts to look at my regimen. The good news is your case seems mild, and it'll stay that way if you take care of it. I side with NeoV about abstaining, if there's pain, abstain. We're young, night time elections got us covered. Your scar tissue shouldn't get too bad. As soon as you stop having pain. Then you can move onto the physical therapies and start having sex and frequent erections. I think the reason my scar tissue has stayed so stretchy is because of the constant sex I was having. However, with my new injury I have to abstain, so hopefully my scar tissue doesn't progress.

Does the scar tissue go away, though? I've read elsewhere that it can and will in some cases (although obviously not all). This makes intuitive sense, insofar as the (partial mantra) I've been telling myself, about how skin tissue scarring can and often does fade, almost completely if the injury is not severe. How long have you had your injury? What has the improvement been like?

I've got to stick to that advice of yours. While it doesn't make the pain worse, it certainly doesn't make it better either. The irony of all this is that I had recently been in a rather serious episode of depression, and I had almost completely stopped having nocturnal erections. It has only been in this past week and a half that I've suddenly begun having them after months of masturbating 2-4 times a day.

diehardpatriot

Hey man. Not sure but I think this scarring is different than skin scarring. Internal scar tissue is a lot tougher. For example, every time you sprain your ankle or any ligament, it heals with scar tissue. That tissue is necessary, and I'm not sure if it ever goes away. However, a penis is not a ligament, so I'm not sure how that works. My new injury is rather a complicated case, you can read about it in my "symptoms progression and questions" post. Just click my profile and look thru my recents. My actual peyronies came I think because I'd always have long erections that would press against my pants, it want the result of 1 injury. I never had worsening of symptoms unless I masturbated way too often (maybe if I did every single day for two weeks).  My curve is mild. It hasn't gotten worse or better, and honestly I'd be fine living with it as long as I can still have erecrions. I actually kind of like it. Everything was cool until this new injury I had, my penis health was perfectly fine. About you tho. 2-4 times a day is way too much man. It certainly can't be doing you any good. Physically or psychologically. Even before my injury, I noticed the more I watched porn/ masturbated, the less strong my erections were for actual sex. It's hard, but abstain man. I can't talk because I haven't done such a great job. But I start now. Me and my girl decided to lay down on ppposite sides of the bed, so i don't get aroused. It sucks but it must be done. Take L-arginine before bed as it'll promote nocturnal erections.

For those prone to herpes outbreaks (or not) substitute Arginine for pure L-Citrulline powder, that is L-Citrulline without Malate (Malic acid) as malate very bad for teeth!!!
L-Citrulline is slow acting meaning the benefits take 7-10 days to kick in.

If your penis has odd shapes after sex get into a 'hot' shower, squat and gently massage your penis from base to tip, it may help reduce inflammation that way  :)

Masturbating 2-4 times a day is never a good idea, ideal IMO is about 3 times a week, this is not so bad as you can always edge in-between meaning when you do masturbate the climax is maximised  ;)

We call Peyronies a disease, but it is really more of a syndrome or condition.  Incorrect healing leads to scar tissue formation (plaque), which then can cause some or all physical symptoms of bending, pain, hour-glassing, shrinkage, and ED.  With those symptoms, and physical exam a Peyronies diagnosis is made.

To me it sounds like you seeing some Peyronies symptoms with your new injury.  That doesnt mean you have Peyronies, you may heal up and in a month and its all gone, no plaque, and back to normal.  However, you may heal with a scar (plaque) and see Peyronies symptoms.  How those symptoms progress is impossible to guess.   50% of men get worse with onset of symptoms of Peyronies, 40% stay just where they are, and 10% improve.

Based of what you have said you are doing the right things:

1.  Seeing a specialist early on
2.  Improving lifestyle with better living (good food and exercise)
3.  Laying off on over-stressing your penis with too much masturbation and stressful sexual positions
4.  Supplements

Beyond what you are doing now, there isnt a lot more you can do in the very short term. You can try some of the other recommendations here, see what works for you.  If your symptoms don't go away after the acute injury phase is done, and you get a Peyronies diagnosis, then you can look at traction or VED.  But that is a few weeks off. You can then discuss treatment option with your doctor, it really depends on "disease" progression.  A mild case, with some minor bending and little to no pain, good erectile function, maybe you just stick with what you are doing.  if it is a worsening case, you get more aggressive.

Its frustrating to not be able to spring into action right away, but unfortunately there isnt a good consensus treatment or drug to start.

The primary thing that is scaring me right now is that I have had the pain metastasize to the right side. Initially I had thought the injury was only on the left, because that is what I had felt the night of the injury. I don't know if this is a result of local inflammation. As of now it is almost back to normal, but the right side has flared up, perhaps because I've now gently masturbated twice. Very, very gently. I have an upward bending penis naturally, and I let it rest against my stomach and touch the head as gently as possible. It is the only solution to this unbearable frustration that has been building up over the past few weeks. Should I avoid doing that altogether? It never hurts during a full erection. If anything, the pain disappears when I am fully erect and then returns on the right side when I am semi-erect. It is dull enough on the left, and sharp-ish, but still better enough on the right that it isn't clear whether it is getting better or worse after I've done it.
