Is it safe to take large amounts (such as 900 mg per day) of CoQ10? And would this possibly make it more effective than smaller doses?

Rats taking the human equivalent of around 900 - 1200 mg a day suffered negative health effects and lived shorter than rats taking none. It seems that 400 is a safe dose to get the positive health benefits. The benefits are clear at this dose and lower, so don't fall into the trap of thinking more is better! I'll have to dig up the study for exact numbers, though the authors did not provide human equivalents and that was based on my own calculations.

Also, do not stop suddenly, wean off it or you may lower your natural levels severely for a short while. You should do this with all supplements regardless.

beechcott, see below link on CoQ10, it is interesting. More is not necessarily better, in general supplements don't work that way, but hey who truly knows. It helps with neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's etcetera. It lowers blood pressure significantly after 8-12 weeks supplementation, and has no known side effects in doing so  :) It also has a mild effect on Cholesterol  :)
At the doses you are suggesting I would urge caution, at the very least buy a blood pressure monitor, they are relatively cheap and check your blood pressure twice a week, and record it, I do this anyhow  :)

Pharma frown on supplementation generally as there is no money in it for them, so they generally debunk supplements  :(

It may be the case that if you can get CoQ10 in a smaller milligram then taking it a few times a day could result in more the body can use, again only guessing  :-\
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

Thank you for that link. It's very interesting. I didn't know that CoQ10 could have serious side effects if too much is taken.

Hi I started to faint and felt light headed about 3-4 weeks into taking 600mg a day. Additionally I started to have problems sleeping. These it would appear are common.
I have started a new thread here about a review of research about this: Q10 Research overview from The International Coenzyme Q10 Association - Peyronies Society Forums

Hi, I'm in the UK and can see a couple of you guys on this thread are from the UK also - can I ask just as myself and partner are about to undertake medications what combinations you use and indeed where do you source them from in the UK.

Thanks in advance.

Q10 made my blood sugar drop faster while I took it

Interesting. The side effects list on that mayo Clinic page makes me wonder if the CoQ10 that I've been taking is making my OCD worse.
