Will hopefully be getting first Xiaflex injection soon.  Waiting for insurance approval.  Was afraid to ask the doctor, but was wondering if the Xiaflex shot(s) are given while you have an erection? Do they give you a shot, or something else in the way of a vasodilator to induce an erection, or do they give you the Xiaflex shot(s) without an erection

Thanks Crooked_Stick.  But I was wondering if they give you an erection first, so they can mark where they need to do the injection.  Then, after the erection goes down, they give you the Xiaflex shot flaccid.

All of my Xiaflex injections were given while flaccid!

No....they have made a determination about where to inject prior. Generally you have the ultra-sound while erect in one visit. This is suppose to give them an idea about where to inject. It's mostly guesswork and prior experience by whoever is administering the shot. It's helpful for you to provide you doctor/tech with some photos of your erect penis for reference. This also helps with judging your results. When you go in for an injection it only takes a few minutes. If I had a 1 PM appointment I would be back at the office by 2.

Sorry to revive this one but my ultrasound last week was done flaccid. I wondered about that...

It's generally done with an erection. A good dr can administer it even without a full erection. They don't base every cycle off your ultrasound. The ultrasound gives them a great starting point and shows what you're dealing with. They check for blood flow among other things. Also, things can change between cycles. That's why finding a dr with a lot of expierence is important

My Dr has also said Xiaflex is only given while flaccid because the injection angle has to be perpendicular through the plaque.

The doctor gave me a shot to cause an erection then he marked the  spot on my penis where the Xiaflex needed to be injected.  When my penis became soft, the doctor injected Xiaflex by using the mark he had previously made  as his guide.

Never Ending Saga, you shouldn't be embarrassed to ask any questions at all. First, they're sticking you with needles in a sensitive area. They should explain treatment plans at the consultation. Second, they deal with this stuff all day. It's their job and they're used to questions.

Exactly.

My Uro and I spoke extensively about it this week since my 1st round starts in 3 weeks.  He said there's no need to have another induced erection before the injection. He will review the sonogram and feel the the plaque to decide on the best spot for the injection.

To say I'm apprehensive is a gross understatement...
