Diagnosed Today - My Treatment Plan

Hi all,

I was diagnosed by my GP with peyronies today. Partially based on a rubbery firmness on much of my shaft but not on the base and a photo of my erect penis from the side, which show what he estimated to be about a 10% upward curve (he felt the curve started about where the rubbery firmness starts on my flaccid penis). I had not even really noticed that, just thought it was my regular angling when I took the pic this morning.

My visit to the GP came about because of an hourglass shape I noticed in a semi-erect state last Sunday (it has not re-appeared since). Even the upward curve was only noticeable when FULLY erect, not semi-erect where my photos only shows maybe a very slight upward curve if at all. Not left or right curving.

I was glad my GP was on top of it because some people's experiences very different. He said he's treated Peyronies before and even gave me a prescription for Pentox and Cialis right away as well as saying I should get on L-Arginine. Here the oral prescription and supplement plan recommended by my doc:

Pentox - 2 400mg tablets 3x a day
Cialis - 1 5mg tablet 1x a day
L-Arginine - 2 500mg tablets 2x a day

I also purchased Acetyl L-Carnitine and COQ10 based on what I'd read on here. Not sure exactly how incorporate them in. Suggestions? I am also thinking about applying regular heat and maybe trying VED. Though VED sounds extreme for I am at now.

Is there anything else I should consider? I feel like we caught it relatively early. Also, he said I don't need to see a Uro yet. Considering I got the "standard" prescriptions should I push for a Uro referral or just book one now?

Thanks

VED will be a good addition in my opinion but very carefully not to hurt yourself

Hey dude. Glad that you are happy with your diagnosis... but how exactly does a GP replace a urologist? how do you feel confident with that?

What you want to do now is to stop, or at least, lessen the progression of the disease. The meds you've been prescribed should help with that.

And James has a point, VED will help with keeping healthy blood flow into the penis. Use carefully and read the protocol on the site.

Seems to me that the OP got more from his GP on day 1 than most of us do from a urologist, or even multiple urologists, after months of waiting.  I asked for the treatment he received from my uro 6 weeks ago, was denied, and have watched my curve worsen 30 degrees while awaiting my 2nd opinion appointment, where I may be told "wait and see" again!  I say congrats to Toronto, he got lucky.
I would bet that the GP has personal experience with Peyronies Disease and that is why he is so knowledgeable on the subject.

I am not happy with the diagnoses so much as I am happy it's been diagnosed quickly (less than a week since first symptoms) and I've been given what seems to be the right medications for it. As another poster says it seems like a lot of guys take months to get to that point.

I guess I cannot be fully confident, but I have confidence in my GP who has experience and success (so he says) treating peyronies. Again the fact that he'd even heard about it and gave me a scrips for Pentox+cialis, without me asking, seem like good signs.

My question is what could a Uro add this point? I genuinely want to know. Would an ultrasound or further tests provide me with more information and guide/change the treatment? My symptoms are relatively mild now, but I am all for attacking this from all angles from the outset.

Thanks for advice. I am definitely going to look more into VED. Is there a standard device that most guys like or use?

Most of the studies dosed Pentox at 400 mg twice or three times a day.  It would seem you have been given 800 mg 3x a day if I am reading your post correctly.

I think you may find the side effects at that dose quite difficult.  I'd start up at only 400 mg twice a day for a week and then go up to 400 mg three times a day for a week. Only then if you tolerate that dose would I attempt to increase up to the higher 800 mg 3x a day dose.

The only reason you'd put in a request for Dr. Grober now would be that it is likely about 9 months before you'd get an appointment to see him anyways.  I'd probably just wait 6 months and try out the oral treatment. If things don't improve then ask for a referral.

We have forum members that were given aggressive 2,400 mg Pentox per day by leading US Peyronies experts.
Some had no any side effect.
A forum search will show you the posts in the subject.
Personally will not go above 3*400 mg daily as my body don't tolerate more.

Toronto;

I'd agree with Arabia and James.

My advice would be to start slowly with the Pentox. It can have numerous side effects and some tolerate these better than others. But slowly building tolerance is probably the best way to go.

Re VED. I have both a manual and a battery device. I prefer the manual as although it occupies both hands you have more control.

Use carefully. Never over pump!!  And if you feel any pain, release pressure immediately.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your feedback. I've taken 800mg of Pentox 2x a day for the last two days without any serious side effects. Maybe a slight headache and mild-heartburnish feelings, but nothing that would stop me from continuing with that dose just yet. As per advice of John, James and Arabia I will hold off from starting a 3rd 800 mg daily dose for another week or so (even the pharmacist seemed a little surprised when she saw my dosage). I am starting the Cialis today, which I am bit nervous about.

I've also reached out to Old Man re: VED so I am probably going to incorporate that into my routine. I am going to look into an anti-inflammation diet as well. It just sounds like an overall healthy diet so it will probably good even if it doesn't help my peyronies.

Thanks again.
