Is GPLC an alternative to Pentox

Guys, I was wondering whether GPLC (Glycine Propionyl L-Carnitine) would have similar effects as Pentox, both I believe help blood circulation, but by different mechanisms.

Medical uses for GPLC also include treating intermittent claudication (similarly Pentox prescribed)

The advantage is that GPLC can be bought over the counter whereas Pentox needs a prescription.

I am going to try it 1000-1500mg (on an empty stomach) of a morning and will send a further post if I think its had any effect downstairs 'so to speak'  :)

I believe weight lifters take it in doses up to 4500mg to boost Nitric Oxide.

Studies have shown supplementation with GPLC can up-regulate synthesis and secretion of all three major antioxidant enzymes: SOD (superoxide dismutase), glutathione peroxidase and catalase.

That sounds useful, but it doesn't compare to Pentox as far as how they work. Pentox specifically prevents fibrosis through blocking tgf-beta.

Thanks NeoV, Seems GPLC is good for the liver

As said I will give it a go and report any benefits noted  :)

Sorry Paolo, it was late at night when I wrote that.

To clarify, I think that MANY things could work better than Pentox, even simply eating blueberries for example, or other supplements. So that is worth looking into. It's just a different mechanism most likely. I am all for anticoagulants or blood thinners as well for Peyronies and penile health.

How Carnitine may work against Peyronies is pretty unclear, but I wrote a massive post on it called "Carnitine review." I'm still finding new research that may support how it may help fight the disease. The nitric oxide and antioxidant effect alone make it worth it I would say.

Thanks NeoV, love you insightful posts on here, let's see how it goes (up to 3 Months) and will report back. Latest I have read is combining ALC + GPLC is almost as good as Viagra  :)

propionyl-L-carnitine (PLC) and acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC), "for the therapy of symptoms associated with partial androgen deficiency of the aging male."  :)

Apparently combining both increases significantly nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT)

That's really interesting Paolo. Honestly, supplements are POWERFUL aren't they? I never doubted that. I do tend to get frustrated at their prices though!
I ran out of ALA, and boom, my neuropathy is back with a vengeance. Money is everything when you have health issues.

skunkworks, I am paying $21.00 (£19.00) for 60 x 750mg tablets, I think that's reasonable  :)

@NeoV - Evening Primrose is great for Neuropathy and pretty cheap.

Hi skunkworks, I am using Jarrow Formulas GPLC, hope that's okay to quote Brand name, per tablet it is 750mg and other Ingredients are listed as;
Calcium phosphate, cellulose, stearic acid (vegetable source), silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate (vegetable source) and a food grade coating.

As advised I am going to combine it with ALC at 1000mg per dose and will post after a Month or so trial if it has any benefits, even if it just helps with leg pain (PAD) that would be good  :)

Yeah I am interested in trying it myself, that specific brand+amount is discontinued on Iherb though.

Will keep looking around, my normal aus sources are quite expensive for GPLC/PLC.

The study used PLC though did it not?

skunkworks, Yeah, the study did support PLC, Glycine interests me though, not least for anti-Inflammatory properties, below is a PubMed study, admittedly it is an old study.

I will report back after a decent tryout  :)
