Have to 'flex' my penis?

Hey guys,

So I'm finally going to do something about this, starting by visiting a GP which is all I have. So, I've noticed, particularly when masturbating that when I ejaculate I have to or just involuntarily 'flex' 'my penis. I'm unsure as to whether these are the same muscles that cause urine to stop flowing but I think they could be. Anyway, it feels like I cannot get very hard, so is my flexing an attempt to compensate for the lack of rigidity to ejcaulate? This also leads me to believe I should get a Doppler ultrasound to on serve my blood flow. Can anyone recommend any specialist peyronies uros in NSW or VIC Australia as well?

Thanks guys

NeoV

BATchap,

You are the FIRST person I have ever met or heard from in my life with this issue other than me. I strongly believe it caused my Peyronie's, or at least largely contributed to it. My pelvic muscles are now "overtoned" from years of intense clenching in order to achieve ejaculation. I had to retrain myself for years to make my penis healthy again and not always in a stressed state. I also think that I damaged my whole vascular system in and around my penis by doing this. Ever since I was 17 I used to do this, and I wish someone would have told me not to.

I highly recommend you stop doing this at all costs. Even if you can't ejaculate, just stop. Eventually, say after a week or two, you will ejaculate without doing it since your body will be so ready to release. I also recommend reverse kegels. That is the opposite of what you're doing, where you squat down and push out like you're trying to pee, rather than stopping yourself from peeing.

Man, I wish I could give you a hug right now, this is a first! haha. Anyway man, stop doing it!

Does your penis ache after orgasm?

Paolo

BATchat/NeoV,
Clenching sounds like Kegels.
Kegels can be of great benefit to men who have lost control of their bladder or bowels due to muscular degeneration. This condition usually only occurs in advanced age, after or with a long severe or degenerative illness, or after months of immobility or prolonged confinement to a bed.
However, because of the excessive tension these exercises cause in the pelvic floor, male kegel exercises are not a good idea for most men, with the exception of reverse Kegels, which have benefited me.

Kegels for the most part benefit women more than men (just my opinion you understand)

Ok, I'm extremely glad that we have this in common Neo. You say that you've done it since 17. I am 17. Anyway, I remember doing it or starting to do it because I read online somewhere that you could last longer by stopping ejaculation of clenching right at orgasm. I did that only once or twice, at maybe like 15-16. I figured this wasn't a good idea. What happened then was a gradual decrease in the ability to 'let go' as in let go of my pee using these muscles and yeah it just wasn't right. I also remember doing this from the fact my penis was so sensitive and when I got a random erection I would always 'squeeze' as you do when say, you tense for a punch in the stomach. Now... several months of training myself to 'let go' and just pee and stuff I'm in a position where I can pee properly and ejaculate how I should HOWEVER does the fact I have a significant plaque and an 'unauthorized' case of Peyronies affect the blood flow when erect and thus I HAVE to flex to get harder to ejaculate? Or is that just not a thing? I've consciously tried to stop flexing and I have been doing reverse kegels on and off, just in general, especially when peeing.

And Neo, could I PM you about how you are now and what you have done to correct your Peyronies? And a side note, I used to ejaculate like males should right... without any hesitation, just 'let it go' and it's just a lot more difficult for me to do that now. But it's improved drastically from the months where I used to flex. I don't think it is as bad as your case and I've recognised that now. So thankyou.. Have you seen any adverse effects from 'overtoning' these muscles?

Tychy

Wow, first post. I have to weigh in.

Same for me. Started around when 16 years old. Only this condition has brought me to the realisation that I'm doing something "wrong". I'm still not definitely diagnosed at this point, but the "scotch tape on balloon" analogy in a confined space leaves not much speculation, especially as it happened after injury.

I also started this behaviour as means of stopping premature ejaculation (which is...I was premature at that point  :o). First episode of prostate and urogenital pain started at 19. Antibiotics helped, because of anti-inflammatory properties, I suppose. "Cordlike" structures appeared around the same time. The actual bend was triggered by the famous "cowgirl on top while not fully erect" trauma at the begging of this year, manifesting around 4 months later.

My pelvic floor is overtrained at the moment, which leads to problems with incontinence, urinary retention when having to go (especially in public), stinging in the urethra, lower back pain, pain on ejaculation, hard flaccid (the full blown CPPS symptoms) and the newly acquired Peyronie's. After around 15 years of training to ejaculate with pelvic contractions I still have a long way to go, as this is a deeply rooted reflex. It occurs even when trying to squat or push, as NeoV suggested. Add a dosage of anxiety problems on top and my pelvis is clenched 24/7, if I don't snap out of the daily routine and actively focus attention to that area.

Clenching will definitely reduce blood flow in the area and further aggravate the genetic predisposition one may have. Unfortunately, having the hard flaccid symptom is not easy for manual stretching, as I fear it will cause additional damage, so I have to pace it atm.
At least I'm almost certain pelvic floor tightness is my main cause of problems "down there", instead of having to get haemorrhoid treatments (actually nerve pain), long term antibiotics for the prostate (because what could possibly go wrong with fluoroquinolones) or NSAIDs for lower back pain (also nerve pain, transferred from the pelvic region).

@BATchap: I'm glad you came to the realisation something is wrong early in your life. I'm merely double your age and it starts to get difficult to change behaviours in this part of the life. Your brain and body is still developing, so you have the greatest chances of recovering when tackling the condition early on.

BATchap

This is very eye opening. To hear different stories. Tychy, thankyou for sharing.

Guys, I really don't know what to do or where to go next. I feel as if there is no option but to talk with SOMEONE on this planet that has an idea of Peyronies disease and everything else to do with the male reproductive system and urology in general. There are so many factors which limit what I can do at this point in my life. I can only access one Peyronies specialist who goes by the name of Chris Love in Melbourne however, I will only be there for a short period of time soon. All other urologists it seems, will either be hit or miss, they probably don't know enough about Peyronies to do anything, plus, me being as young as I am I'm afraid there is nothing that can be done.
I've summarised my issues and points of concern in my iPhone notes. Hopefully I can verbalise these issues to someone in the future. This is honestly something that I never thought I'd have to deal with so young. I shouldn't have to worry about this, but I am.

Dannijac

Hi

I have looked for what flexing means exactly since im not 100% sure how you mean. Is it when you "clench" your penis muscles, like when you stop yourself from ejaculating? If not can you explain. And what is the problem with this cause if ive understood correct Ive done the same for as long as i can remember, including edging

Dannijac

BATchap

Basically it's contracting your pc muscles from what I can gather. This supposedly contributes to the pelvic being tight. Which to be fair, I don't really know what the adverse effects of that are. Can someone clarify. Cheers

Tychy

@Dannijac @BATchap:
It's basically constant kegels.

When in fight or flight mode, mammals tend to pull their tail (if they have one) towards their body. The same muscle group in the pelvis is active in some humans when they have anxiety issues. This preparation of the pelvis allows for instant evasive measures to be taken from an attacker.

However, this also diminishes blood circulation and may entrap nerves in the pelvis. Also, muscles inside your abdomen will tense up (read: not your usual situp muscles) and your breathing will flatten, leading to decreased oxygen supply and increased heart rate. You tense up. This is a cause of chronic pelvic pain syndrome.

This condition may also lead to the hard flaccid condition, similar to being in a too cold environment and having your penis shrink, while still maintaining rigidity. Thus being prone to injury and inflammation.

Paolo

Tychy is right, Kegels IMHO bad! for Men with exception of 'reverse' Kegels, which have helped me greatly, I wish I had never done Kegels.

Dannijac

So if you have "tense muscles" due to stress and/or so on, and have had it for years and not be able to "relax" them, what can you do?

Dannijac

Paolo

Dannijac, see below on reverse Kegels,

Breathe deeply and suck in the air against the diaphragm during the initial stages to help you relax better.

Focus on relieving the contraction of the frontal penile muscles as if you are 'letting go.'

You can experience the reverse kegel contraction while urinating; essentially, you will want to focus on supplying the penis with more energy so that you urinate at a faster rate. The process occurring here is the same as releasing the muscles when you are ejaculating.

You'll notice a significant increase in strength and in your contractions within a few weeks; continue doing the exercises to build up more strength in the frontal area of the pelvis.

Kegel exercises will also strengthen the bladder muscles, which can reduce your risk of urinating during sexual intercourse and further enhancing your sexual experience.

If you experience any type of pain when you are performing these exercises, consult with your physician for a checkup.

Other Information About Reverse Kegels
Reverse kegel exercises can take time to master, but it's important to practice them at least a few times per week to learn the best technique that works for you. You will need to relax the entire penile area in order to let the blood flow naturally before beginning the exercises.

It's important to focus on being very calm and relaxed so that there is no tension or stress built up in the area; after a few days of successfully performing the exercises, you'll feel that the area is much looser, stronger and you have a much better sense of control of the ejaculation and erection process.

I only ever do reverse kegels now, about 2-3 times per week, good luck  :)

QuoteThe process occurring here is the same as releasing the muscles when you are ejaculating.

Question about that. What is the usual procedure ejaculating? Are you pushing outward like increasing pressure to pee or is it pulling inward like stopping the flow of urine and tensing the pelvic floor muscles?

I can only relate from my own point of view, so I have limited information about that ;) For me it is always a pulling inward and the muscles that will flex the penis upward towards the body are activated.

NeoV

It should be a pushing out and loosening of the muscles, not a tensing the muscles : )

Exactly right as NeoV has said  :)

Interesting. Then that's the next thing to retrain. For the time being, those stretching exercises seem to help twice a day and I would recommend them:
Easy Stretches to Relax the Pelvis - Men - Pelvic Pain Foundation

Additionally, all day awareness about the pelvic floor with a 15 minute repeating timer on my watch seem to have diminished urinary symptoms and hard flaccid condition and manual stretching seems feasible now :)

Hello all,

I am glad I stumbled across this thread.  I have been suffering from Peyronie's for almost as long as i can remember, accompanied with the onset of some mild to moderate ED in the past 2-3 years.  I have also clenched my pelvic area, abs, and stiffened my legs while masterbating and even during intercorse while coming close to orgasm - so I believe everything noted in the OP and other posts of this tread applies to me.  At this point, I have seen three different urologists - none of which have been much help at all.  In fact, all three insist that there is nothing wrong with me physiologically and that me ED troubles are strictly psychological.  I had a penile ultrasound performed a couple of weeks ago and the results were normal blood flow and no venous leakage...I suppose I should feel lucky...but I am VERY troubled by my ED problems.  My EQ is not great even while masterbating at times...but I typically wake up with full strength erections.  I have had some good sexual experiences in the past 2-3 years, but most of the time I feel my EQ is probably a 7 out of 10.  Lately, I have not been able to achieve an erection good enough for intercorse id say 7 out of 10 times.  I have just recently started traction therapy to help with the very mild curvature, pain, and hopefully erection quality.  I also plan on using my Augusta Medical pump to help improve EQ. I have only a couple of requests at the moment:

1. Will reverse kegels/doing anything I can to correct my clenching problem have any impact at all on my erection quality/ability to obtain an erection?

2. What else would you suggest to help me improve my condition - most importantly to help me improve my erection quality and ability to obtain a stonger erection?  I don't mean to hijack this thread - the OP caught my attention as I believe that to be one of my many problems..  Feel free to link me to other threads that are more suitable for this question (I literally just joined the forum 2 minutes prior to writing this post).

Anyways, I am glad to be a part of this community and look forward to working through our issues together.

Thank you so much in advance

Paolo

cdm1216, Yes, reverse Kegels will help, it takes a long time though but you get used to it!
Every time you pass urine try it, after a while it becomes almost second nature. I also get the benefit of my penis having a chubby feeling after for a minute or two, nice  :)

I have sent you a message (look under 'my messages') to a further sites which covers ED specifically  :)

Paolo - thank you much for the quick reply.  I will make this a part of my daily routine.  Can you please elaborate on what you mean by " I also get the benefit if my penis having a chubby feeling after for a minute or two"?

Paolo

Sure cdm1216, The chubby feeling is a 'bit' like after you have had a long sex session and you penis just hangs with a 'fuller' flaccid, that's the best way I can describe it.

Reverse Kegels takes a long time to master though, be patient and let us know at the end of the Month if you have had any benefits from doing them  :)

Maybe this post is too old to get any type of response. But holy crap. I thought kegeling  just before and during orgasm was normal. When I ejaculate, my penis INVOLUNTARILY kegels at least 2-3 times. And right before ejaculation, my penis kegels hard and clenches (which is usually an indicator for me that I am about to ejaculate, when I feel it tense up). I always thought the jewels during ejaculation we're maybe because my penis isn't straight ? I thought maybe my body has to push extra hard since the pathway isn't straight. Are you guys saying this isn't normal?? Not everyone kegels just before and during ejaculation?

Paolo

diehardpatriot, the gist of this topic is that trying to maintain an erection during sex by flexing your penis using the necessary muscles is generally bad as you end up with uneven pelvic floor muscles, over-trained if you will, understand?

What I mean is that you will automatically kegel at PONR (point of no return), it's a nerve response that you cannot control, right? This response ultimately results in ejaculation, whether that be 2, 3 or 4 shots of semen, right.

Guys who have routinely done kegels without including reverse kegels are generally susceptible to pelvic floor tightness, with the added unfortunate consequence of the pelvis getting a reduced blood flow.

For me when I ejaculate I get a better orgasm from doing a reverse kegel, that pushing out pee feeling, right. I don't do reverse kegels during the act itself as that only weakens (slightly) the erection level, at the PONR it doesn't matter though  ;)

Thanks Paolo. I wish there was a "like post" option so I could let you know I read your answer without making a post. Thanks. So it is normal to kegel during orgasm, got it. Was confused thereill try reverse kegeling during PONR
