Had my 1st xiaflex treatment at Mayo Clinic last week. Interestingly, they do shots a week apart rather than same week. Doctor said there can be too much swelling and a possible miss, so they modified the protocol. Plus no modeling until after 2nd shot, along with no sex for 2 weeks. Like a giant bee sting for several seconds. Then you wear a wrap for 24 hours.

No penis bruising, but major swelling at base area for 3 days. No initial changes, but next shot in a few days. We shall see going forward.

2nd round yesterday - a week later. Seemed to be a bit more painful injection, but less overall swelling after 24 hours. I can start to model after 2 days, and use a VED after 2 weeks. Starting with a 60 degree curve upright, so we shall see.

I am supposed to take pictures before my next visit in six weeks to help the doctor. More updates later.

I am doing my Xiaflex in Atlanta at Emory with the same protocol. Injection, week later is the second injection, week later is the modeling.

I wanted to share some insight I learned during my 2nd round/2nd shot. I had a few minutes to speak with the doctor as his next appointment was delayed. First, I asked about the time period of a week between the cycle shots, which was not following FDA guidelines. He noted that he personally, along with a forum of other doctors, saw too many problems with finding plaque locations so close after the 1st shot, due to frequent swelling/discoloration issues. Made sense. Next, he showed me his thumb after the injection, which was very much indented. He noted that it was a positive sign that he had much difficulty putting in the xiaflex, as it was directly in a large plaque area. Frequently, if the injection goes in too easily, it may have missed the mark. I do have much discoloration this time around the base, so walking a bit gingerly right now. Begin modeling about 2 days later.

Hope this helps!

Oh wow, first time having any major discoloring, all along the base and down to my testicles. No pain, but looks scary. Something different happened on this round. I will hold off on any further modeling for a few days. Shot was on Tuesday.

Seanman,

Have your URO give you a pack of Coflex and the cotton pad and keep your penis wrapped for the two days between the first injection and the second. You will greatly reduce the swelling. My URO has started doing this with a few of us in his practice and has seen that it is positive for keeping swelling down. After the second injection, keep the penis wrapped for 3-4 days and you will have minimal swelling, but you will still be black, blue and purple.

Thanks for the advice, and I will certainly ask during my next treatment in January 2017. I only had minor discoloration along the base of the penis after day 2 injection, so started minor stretching. Either that triggered the increased swelling or a delayed reaction from the injection. The testicle area discoloration alarmed me the most on the 3rd day, as they are quite purple/black on the top half. But no pain, so have not sought any doctor help. I'll let the area rest a few more days then see what it looks like. This is the first time getting any black/blue color or swelling (after four shots), so not sure if a good sign or not...
