Calling all South African Peyronies Disease sufferers!

I'm going to try to persuade one of the urologists at the Pretoria Urology hospital to start administering Xiaflex, and I thought it would add some weight to my argument if I could provide evidence that there is a demand for it in this country. Of course if we do that then we'll have to work out how to convince medical insurance to cover the costs but we have to start somewhere. If you have Peyronie's and you live anywhere in South Africa at all please get in touch with me.

Thank you!

Hey guys! nice to see members from that part of the world here! :D I can't help you as i am in Canada right now, but i have one question for you South African guys.

What happened to the guy you had a penis transplant? I read he was able to father a child but then, no more cases came out. Something passed on local South Africa media about this or nobody ever heard about the case again?

And, does the urologist that made the penile transplant operation possible give private consultations too or he has no interest in that? maybe you can go to his office, if you have that possibility and ask him what he thinks about it.

Also, one very important thing is that in the article about the operation he mentions that he "identified new components inside the penile anatomy" that were previously not know, which made the surgery possible, so i think here, big if, that he might have a much better insight on the penile anatomy that almost any other doctor on the world.

So, i wonder if we, the ones that suffer from ED and Peyronies are going to benefit in the future from it those techniques he may have developed?

Ben H

I am also a sufferer and Xiaflex injections seem the best option available.
Is there any progress with making it available to urologists in South Africa ?
I live in Somerset west so if anyone can add anything of value please do so.

Hey, what do you think about the post above? Made by me?

Just responding to earlier posts regarding Xiaflex availability in South Africa.  Also the post from Canada re the penis transplant doctor.  He consults (Prof Andre van der Merwe)  infrequently as a private consultant.  His main focus is Academic Urology and has since the first transplant done another transplant.  He is overseeing my oral treatment (Cialis and Vitamen E) for Peyronie's.  Will ask him if Xiaflex will become available for treatment in South Africa.  Just a short note, my Health Insurance - Discovery Health - refuses to pay for Cialis & Vitamen E.

Hi guys, i have the same question like pfract had
How is the situation of the southafrican guy who had his penis transplanted? Whate were those new components than they found in the anatomy of the penis?

Dear Ben H.  Xiaflex is not available in South Africa and is not likely to be made available locally.  This is due to the high cost involve for the drug.  Depending on your Medical Insurance, you can have the injections administered abroad.  International Andrology London specialises in the treatment of Peyronie's with Xiaflex.  Discovery Health will finance the treatment abroad (1,500 pound per injection and an additional 250 pound consultation fee).  Discovery Health will only cover the medical treatment depending on the severity of the curvature.  It has to be greater than 30 degrees.  Unfortunately they do not cover travel cost.  Please refer to Advanced Men's Healthcare - International Andrology London for more information regarding Peyronie's and the various treatments available.

There might be some manufacturer assistance with costs internationally.  They do provide some assistance in the US with copays and uncovered costs of the drug itself ..
55 - Onset May 2017.  38 degree bend up.  Failed Xiaflex treatment.  Still functional so I decided to stop treatments.  Only take 400mg Co-Q10 and occasionally use Restorex

Also, doctor using Xiaflex must first receive training as a requirement for use here.  If you are trying to convince a doctor to use it he would need training and probably should observe an injection before starting on a patient ...
