Hello, I'm a 32 year old male that's been dealing with erection problems since I was 19 due to an exercise I found on the internet called jelqing. I knew right away that something was wrong when I noticed a ring/dent around the entire shaft horizontally. Eventually this ring disappeared, but I now deal with:
- significant narrowing of the shaft when semi-erect
- shaft bends to the left when erect and can feel a small hardening underneath the skin on the left side where the bend occurs
- discolouration on the shaft after the point of the bend
- ridges on the right side of the shaft near the base that spans half the circumference (they don't feel calcified, but they are very noticeable)
- large spider veins on top of the shaft
- severe erectile dysfunction
- penis remains hard while in flaccid state

Over a year ago my ED became much worse after I suffered an injury thrusting into a masterbation device called a Fleshlight. My penis got stuck inside from the amount of suction that built up from the thrusting and it took a lot of effort to pull it off. Once I removed it, my penis became very swollen and stayed that way for a number of days. Around that time when I tried to get an erection it caused considerable pain.

I tried to remedy the situation and improve my erection quality by purchasing a VED called the bathmate. I believe this further aggravated my condition because there was no pressure gauge and I got carried away (i.e. was overpumping). After using the bathmate, I started having pain while flaccid and it has persisted ever since. I stopped using the bathmate in April, so it has been about 4, or 5 months since.

I recently visited a urologist and was prescribed sildenafil to improve the blood circulation (I am currently taking 2 X 100 mg tablets per week). He also scheduled an ultrasound, but in Canada the system is very slow so it will take months before the test is administered. I am able to get an erection with the sildenafil, but it is still difficult. When I get an erection there is no pain, but I notice that I have lost about an inch in length.

As hard as it is, I've been practicing getting erections on a more regular basis. I've noticed this has decreased the amount of pain and tenderness in my penis will flaccid. My urologist said I need to "use it or lose it".

Is there any hope for me to restore my sexual function to the point where I no longer have to rely on ED meds? Apart from what's been mentioned, is there anything else I could/should be doing to restore blood flow?

Hello,

Well first were you given a diagnosis of Peyronies by the urologist that you saw (or another physician) the Sildenafil is simply a form of Viagra which wouldn't do anything for the Peyronies itself, the plaque like areas that you say you can feel and or see wont be helped by this medication, you would do better with Pentox to aid with the plaque. It may be that the urologist is waiting for the ultrasound to make his diagnosis but the Pentox could be used now with no harm while waiting for the ultrasound and could in fact aid in your treatment. I would suggest that you ready the Oral meds forum boards so you can get an idea of what most of the men here are using. The sildenafil alone will not help you.

As for the comment "use it or lose it" I feel at this point if using it causes you pain then this should not be done, pain is a way of telling your body something is wrong, listen to your body. VED can be used in treatment of your peyronies but should only be done if you know how to do this properly, over pumping tell me that you didn't know and I would suggest you contact our member Old Man for information on this subject he is very knowledgeable on this topic also read the boards on VED and Traction.

This forum is a great resource with many members that will be able to help you with this disease, everyone here is more than happy to help so please post and ask questions.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've not yet been diagnosed as having Peyronies by the urologist, but I do feel a hard uneven area on the left side where the bend occurs.

The pain generally resides on the left side of the shaft while my penis is flaccid and that's one of the reasons why I'm worried things are deteriorating. I also noticed a very hard vein on the top-left side. It feels kind of like a guitar string. I noticed it there after I stopped using the VED. The pain seems to be worst in the vicinity of the vein and the left side of the shaft in general seems a lot stiffer than the right. On the right side there is no pain at all and on the corpus spongosium there is a feeling of tenderness. It used to hurt a lot when I pressed on the top-middle section of the shaft near the glans, but that pain seems to have diminished quite a bit.

The amount of pain decreases significantly after I get an erection and erections are not painful. When I hurt myself with the fleshlight over a year ago it was the exact opposite (it only hurt when I was getting an erection). I notice nocturnal erections occasionally when I'm sleeping, but it seems like it all depends which way I am lying down. When I am lying on my right side, I am able to get an erection much easier than when I am in any other position. When I'm lying on my back it is really hard and when standing up it's impossible.

The boards you mentioned seem like they will have a lot of useful information, so I will definitely check them out.

I'll have to write more when I get a chance, but just to answer your question, yes it is possible to restore sexual function after cialis or other treatments.

Studies on rats and humans demonstrate this is possible even after treatment has stopped. Of course a life style change is always going to be important, there is hope!

Thanks for the words of encouragement NeoV!

Is there anything you'd recommend to help relieve the pain? The uro said it was nerve damage and will take close to a year to heal. The biggest problem is that I work in an office setting and do a lot of sitting. When I sit down the pain is horrendous. I don't want to quit my job, but right now it seems like I might have to because I have a hard time concentrating and getting anything accomplished.

I was using the VED because I thought it could help improve circulation, but in the end it did the exact opposite. I thought that if I followed the instructions that came with it then I'd be OK, but the instructions didn't say anything about there being an unsafe pressure. In hindsight I wish I would have been more careful. I didn't notice the pain until it was already too late.

Consider a hemorrhoid donut cushion.  Such a thing might allow sitting for long periods without pain.

Thanks for the info kuaka!

I ended up ordering a cushion called the "Thera-Seat". It wasn't cheap, but hopefully it'll provide some much needed relief! I should be receiving it within the next week or two. I'll post an update once it arrives.

Hey Ian,

For pain some here swear by CoQ10, but there is no science to say that CoQ10 actually helps as a pain reliever. Actually Acetyl-L-Carnitine is a better pain killer, as there have been some good studies on this and the mechanism is known. You may want to take things for nerve regrowth, maybe some simple vitamins may do the trick. Of course, there is no guarantee. It depends on the type of pain you have. Is it in your penis itself or below it? For me it's in the pelvic area and it's brutal. The pain was so bad for me at work it would cause me to sweat. Even know after sex I have terrible pain in my pelvis and it's a real problem.

Since I was 18 I used a rice sock for this. Grab a sock and put white rice in it, tie it and microwave it for 30 secs to a minute and you have yourself a homemade heating pad. That works well at home, but not so much at the office : /. At work I recommend stretching as much as possible, drinking a lot of water and peeing as often as you can.

I permanently damaged my nerves with the VED too, it's been two years and my entire body feels slightly numb all the time. What the hell ! Sometimes it's all just beyond words.

The other thing I recommend is squatting. Squat down in the shower and try reverse kegels. This is only of the ONLY things that rids me of my pain after sex, and gets rid of my deformity as well. Try breathing into your stomach and pushing out like you are trying to pee, then tighten, and push out and relax again. This can really really help.

Good luck!

Hello NeoV,

The pain is in the penis. There's no pain in the perineum, but when pressure is applied to that area it makes the pain far worse. I hope the urologist is right and it will go away eventually. The scariest part is not knowing. I'm being a lot more careful now and trying to avoid anything that would cause further damage.

The activities that have helped me the most up until this point are:
- drinking green tea
- going for long walks outside
- body scan meditation
- avoid sitting

I'm going to try out some of the things you've mentioned. Hopefully it will help alleviate some of the pain and make life less unbearable.

Hello and welcome! I'm new here also and feel better knowing I'm not the only young guy here with penis problems. Good luck with everything!

Let me say,

Try everything for overall penile health.

My new approach to Peyronie's focuses on my penis in general using supplements and diet mostly. The effects of taking just one supplement can make such a big difference. I stopped using supps for a while, now I'm back in the states and back on supplements and I'm in awe at the difference in my hardness and the fullness of my penis in general. Much better!
