whoops!

Hello friends. I am 27 years old and just 3 weeks ago noticed a dent and slight curvature (10 degrees or less) in my penis, as well as a palpable plaque. I have no memory of any trauma. My GP referred me to a urologist, and I immediately began taking coenzyme q10 and acetyl-l-carnitine.

I just returned from the urologist and he told me that my plaque is sizable and already calcified. Therefore, due to being in the chronic stage with a calcified plaque, I should do nothing unless it gets worse. Then, in that case, I might need to pursue a surgical option.

Has anyone heard of having no symptoms of Peyronies Disease until you arrive at the chronic stage? Additionally, is it true that there is no treatment for a calcified plaque except for surgery?

This situation is nothing short of.... terrible. I appreciate any insight. Thanks.

whoops,

Being in the chronic stage implies this started 12-18 months ago. So to have developed a dent/slight curve in the the last 3 weeks doesn't make sense.

Several of the expert doctors will say that once calcified that there is little that can be done. I was told it would be like trying to break up or soften bone. There are some however that b believe that the new drug Xiaflex might be able to soften even calcified plaque. But all the trials were done on non-calcified patients so I know of no studies or data to support this.

My suggestion is to closely monitor yourself. If you are chronic stage, and no additional progression, 10 degrees is considered a VERY slight amount of curvature and many men have natural curves that exceed this.

Thank you very much for your response LWillisjr. I have an appointment with another, more highly regarded urologist next month. In the meantime I will monitor myself.

LFCE

Whoops,

In my case, the very first symptom I notified was a hard lump which was confirmed a calcification through an EchoDoppler. Curvature and "hourglass" effect developed afterwards. My urologist told me calcification is not necessarily related to acute/chronic phase and the most important, you can improve even without surgery. It is actually my case with slight improvement after first round of Xiapex in addition to Pentox, Cialis and Traction.

Best to you,

whoops!

LFCE,

Thank you so much for your insight! It is reassuring to know that somebody else has experienced a similar disease progression, and you have made me more optimistic about my treatment options.

As LFCE says, calcification can develop very quickly in certain cases. I too have calcified plaque and it certainly developed in the first 12 months.

Re Xiaflex, I was told by Dr Kuehhas in London that it may work for me, however it would require 3-4 courses of treatment. The cost would not be far short of that of surgery, and that IF it worked the improvement would be a maximum of 30% of the current curvature.

Hello, I also got calcifications only 2 months after I noticed the first symptom, and the desease has continued growing, so definitely calcifications don't always mean being in the chronic phase.

(sorry for my English)

Ives

I am hourglass and calcified.  Sports injury 2 years ago.  Had my first xiaflex injection yesterday. Dr. had a great deal of trouble just getting needle into the affected area. Obviously, he's managing my expectations on how much improvement I may see. Will be watching for improvement in the scared area, and possible improvement in the calcified area.  We'll see. Looking forward to relaying results over time if interested.  Injection 2 is Friday.

whoops!

Ives,

I would love to hear about your progress. I think what bothers me most about this is simply having a hard lump in my penis. I don't want to have it forever, so I'd be grateful to hear how this goes for you.

Best of luck as you pursue this treatment!
